- The final track of Ben van Dijk's 5th solo cd "World Concerto":
"La Tarara" by Frederico Garcia Lorca here in a sensational arrangement by Steven Verhelst and Ben van Dijk. "La Tarara" tells the story of a beautiful Flamenco dancer wearing a green Flamenco dress.
This arrangement see's Ben start playing on his beloved Flamenco guitar before moving on to play the melody line on bass trombone accompanied by himself on guitar and then on to the contrabass trombone for some soaring low notes and basslines.
Some great licks and sectional playing from Jan Oosting (tenor trombone) and a rhythmical amazing bassline from Martin van den Berg (tuba).
Both Jan Oosting ( tenor trombone ) and Martin van den Berg ( bass trombone and tuba ) play in the famous Dutch jazz orchestra the "Metropole Orchestra"
We hope you will enjoy this promotional clip!
Thanks to Bigears productions - Max Boeree for the video edit, Martin van den Berg for the recording edit, Jan Oosting for his great playing and Steven Verhelst for his great brass arrangement.
"La Tarara" is the bonus track on Ben van Dijk's 5th solo cd "World Concerto" a cd with music composed and arranged by Steven Verhelst for bass trombone solo and brass band accompanied by the Amsterdam Staff Band.

Ben plays Thein trombones!
2:24 you can see steam coming out of the bell when Ben plays the Pedal C. I've never seen that happen, ever!
Haha, I didn't see it before:-)) Wet breath as I always call this. Thanks!
It's not steam it's the soul of the bass trombone gods that have blessed him
I never noticed that happens until one time I was playing infront of a mirror and saw it once
Haha well in marching band any time it got below maybe 60°f we would start seeing the water vapor from our bells. Especially during halftime shows under all the lights! I marched bass trombone and my bell would be SOAKED from the condensation after a game.
@@d_kortman THE WORST PART WAS LIFTING THE TROMBONE AND DRINKING A WHOLE TROMBONE SLIDE OF CONDENSATION
2:13 it's always nice to hear a bass trombone go back to its roots and channel its inner chainsaw
I have never heard someone scream on trombone, I've only heard trumpet screamers:)
what a surprise to see and hear Ben playing the guitar, and so fantastically. Fun bonus track :-)
holy. fucking. shit.
Granpa van Dijk plays beautiful flamenco guitar . Masters all other trombones too. Genius!
thanks!!
FANTASTIC enough said.
FANTASTIC
Конечно, браво, конечно брависсимо и , что интересно, слушая эту музыку начинаешь уважать Испанию, страсть и мощь темперамента испанского народа вложенного в сыгранные ноты.
My favorite part of Spanish music is when they use low brass! I used to play bass trombone because of the beautiful growl of low notes.
Found this song a month ago and I’ve been obsessed! Haven’t played trombone since 9th grade but I’ll be picking one up soon!! :)) love from H-Town
Soooo much talent in one person. Outstanding!
It's a great surprise to discover master Ben van Dijk also plays classic guitar
you are such an inspiration to me mr van dijk, not only as a trombonist but also as a guitarist. you just seem to fit the bass and contrabass trombone so well, amazing playing.

BRAVISSIMO
muy bien Maeastro!
Очень хорошо! Очень понравилось!
Nine people didn't think was worth watching. Wow! This incredible stuff. Rarely see a great orch. man so adept on another instrument (aside from piano.)
We had to search up a musician for jazz band and I used this video and my band teacher kept it playing for the rest of the class and everyone was jamming out to it
Fantastisch!
Verder goed. :-)
Bennnnnnnnnnnnn................ fantástisch man
YOU FLY. THANKS
Моё почтение. Очень круто.
Fantastico...guauuuuu me encantó...lo q daria por q mi trombon me sonara asi....jejeje
It's very funny!
your "ligados" are awesome :D
Bravo!
This person is good at probably performing a trombone most in a guitarist.
Hello! Just wanted to let you know, again, that you are a AMAZING player! You are by far my favorite, your tone is just purely outstanding. Do you by any chance have a simple tip for me while playing the bass trombone? So that I may be able to progress sharply? Thanks!
Hi Jacob, Thanks for your nice words.
A few little tips I like to give are:
Try to make your sound as vocal as possible.
Play in a relaxed way and think of moving air. First in and then out and let the air make you lips vibrate as full as possible. Get your tongue out of the way and let the air do the job.
Sing a song, always what ever you play.
Use a relaxed slide movement, essential for a good legato and virtuosity!
Just a few thing to think about!
greetings,
Ben
Yes BigSplitter, I also noticed, this tenor-trombone guy wears a different shirt each shot.
He is probably part of the notorious trombone playing sextuplets..?
Great players, all six of them!
Do you think you could make a video on the sheet music for all the parts, it sounds so cool and i really want to learn it, thanks Ben!!
meer dan schitterend! Bravo Ben!
tuba epic
Is it possible to purchase this arrangement or something similar?
We need more
What bass trombine is that? It's beautiful
James Orr Thanks, its a Thein bass trombone. Have a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/4VUF1QXxFNo/v-deo.html
What model bass is that? I love the double hagmann
Its a Thein
What bass trombone does he have
Mr. Van Dijk I am a High School Bass trombonist located in Texas studying under Noel Wallace (one of your old students) and I was hoping that you could help me find a recording of "Concerto in one movement by Lebedev" that I heard you have recorded. I've spent that past 2 days searching hoping to find your recording as you are the one player I want to render my playing towards. If there's anyway you could reply back with a link or at least an answer as I don't feel like I can completely understand this solo until I hear you play it. Thank you so much for your help and I really enjoy watching your videos as I develop as a player. Thanks!
Thanks for your nice words. My Lebedev is available for download at iTunes!!

Those pedalnotes at 2:10 doe
he has a guitar shaped thumb nail to stum the guitar too cool
Helllo do you have an arr for this that i could Download?
The best is to contact Steven Verhelst via his website. He has an arrangement available of the brass section. The guitar part is sort of improvised by myself!!
maestro se parece a jaisenber
That note at 3:32 doe
2:25 steam comes out of his bell
minä pidän tästä Kappaleesta.
So Ben and the tubist each wear a skirt or two but every other shot the tenor player has a different shirt...
ACHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ))))))))))))
More uploads
At 4:13 the tenor-trombone guy in the red shirt is missing a button on his right sleeve!
That is unacceptable i.m.h.o.
He probably missed closing the button or even lost it because of all these hectic shirt changes during playing this piece. It's certainly not easy to change shirts while playing trombone, right? 😉
