The bread box is making a comeback! I don't know if that's true, but I just wrote it on the internet so it must be! With the resurgence of fresh-baked wholesome bread, it only stands to reason that we need to bring the bread box back! My wife Nicole is a big fan of bread boxes and we've had a metal one that has served us well for years, but she has always wanted something more elegant made from wood. I looked at a bunch of designs and none of them had the look I was hoping to achieve, so I set out to build something with a sleek and smooth appearance made from figured wood with a copper punch panel accent.
This project is available in the Wood Whisperer Guild so if you're interested in the plans and full set of videos, head on over.

Oh man I thought that said 200 hours at first and wondered if this was a Matt guild project! lol (Matt I loved the Queen Anne Highboy videos!)
@@VampireOnline haha ain't nobody but Matt got time for that!

Outstanding build! Overkill? Not at all. You tie all of your design aesthetics together nicely.
Form AND function. Best of both worlds
THIS ISN'T A LIFE SUPPORT MACHINE, THIS IS JUST A BREAD BOX!
Beautiful woodwork, you are an inspiration to me as a highschool woodshop teacher
As we say here in Egypt:
May God bless you and your hands.
Salute from Egypt 🇪🇬with respect and love 💟👏👏
I offered to make my wife a breadbox. One of our cats is FOREVER getting into the bread, and a beautiful box like this would solve the problem. She said no. I'm going to show her this video and see what she says. Thanks, Marc!
Sounds like your wife would rather play "Chase the cats away from the bread".
"... But that never stopped Run DMC."
I snorted and almost dropped my phone.
This is a project I'll probably buy. Our bread sits on the counter but I feel it would probably be more comfortable in its own box. Thanks for the video Marc.
So enjoyed the quality of the build
Fantastic mate!
Really nice project, Marc. Simple but detailed and the kind of box that any wife would love to have in her kitchen.
I'd recommend rolling or dipping the brass screw in wax or soap before screwing them into hardwood. Makes it effortless.
Marc sometimes I feel like you know my life and the projects I have in front of me... staying just ahead of my needs and laying it all out for me. Thank you for that.
Any time! FYI, I just received a premonition that you're in the mood for a ham sandwich. Get on it!
Nice bread box.🍞🍪👍👍😁
It was the bread toss for me. lol
Tis a fine box.
Absolutely beautiful Sir 😊 love your shop sir 😊
Absolutely beautiful. I love the contrasting wood choice. The small detail on the through tenons makes the design. Thanks for sharing.
Very neat, as usual.
Fantastic build Marc, thanks for another great one.
Love how you take so much care making the box then just chuck the bread in it.
"All that's missing, is some bread." *literally throws bread in the box and shuts the door*
I was half expecting it to be Wonder "bread"
I was a little disappointed in the lack of, "lets get this bread" jokes.
That's was toast. Bread is still missing ;D
I'm in Love with walnut wood 😍😍👍👌
very nice breadbox
You definitely did a PERFECTIONIST job....AWSOME......now days you can count on your hands who takes PRIDE in the work they do.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for sharing that
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
Beautiful. Love the color of the two different kinds of wood.
I do recall that when Norm--- you know who I mean--- made a pie safe he too complained about the tediousness of punching the holes in the sheet.
This is a project I'd really like to try. Beautifully made.
Well done Mark this is a beautiful piece
This is exactly what I need. Thank you and remember a vote for me is a vote for progress
This is absolutely beautiful!!! I must say as a novice woodworker- WAY OUT OF MY LEAGUE!😂 But I would love to somehow simplify it without being insulting to the true artisans and experts here. Any advise or instructions more along the “breadbox for dummies” version?!? Lol! Seriously though… this is so beautiful!!!
Awesome work Marc! 😃👍🏻🍞🥐🥖👊🏻
absolutely wonderful!
Great video i like !
Nice job, Marc. Great design.
it is a beautiful peice and it is always an art when you work the wood
Wonderful job!!
That bread box looks nicer than most peoples fancy kitchens.
Gorgeous!
Very nice Marc. Looks great
Great Video!!!
As a German I am contractually obligated to mention the fact that this ain't no bread. But it is a damn nice box.
Rocking a rhyme is easy breezy. Rocking a rhyme that’s right on time is where it gets tricky. Hey
I so enjoy your videos. I always learn something, and there’s always a chuckle in there, too. Even if I don’t make this project, it’s worth the watch
I love the way you throw the loaf of bread in at the end. Hahaha! After all that careful work . . .
Acid etched brass would have been fun for that panel.
I like the reference to back to the future, Elect Goldie. It's probably always been there, I just noticed it. I love your work man!
Wow! I didn't know that the bread box could look so awesome 👌 Great work 💪
Nothing like a little overkill;) looks really nice Marc. LOVE that figured walnut! Ur bread will be very happy!
Love the bread throw at the end. lol
After getting this stuff few days ago, I could hardly put it down afterwards [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ]. There are lots of colorful pictures, with detailed descriptions of every step in the project. You will never miss your way using this plan. It was more than I expected.?
Great looking piece! That butternut pairs great with the walnut! Oh, and I don't think you tossed the bread in there with enough gusto. ha
It is a fantastic contrast.
"Purely for the sake of overkill..." LMAO!
Waw lots of details.. great work.. big like from me👍
So jealous of your shop and tools.
Straight up beautiful!
*TopFineWoodworking. Com* is an amazing book about wood working. I took several classes and completed a one year diploma in carpentry at a local tech college; this is better than any book I worked out of during those courses. It includes useful photos and goes over almost everything.
Imperial exhaust port!!! YASS!!!
A helpful addition would be some way to exclude house flies. Some kind of screen in the ventilation slots would do it. I'm sure you could come up with a way to keep it looking attractive. Beautiful project.
The bread box looks great
Is it just me? Or did you just toss a loaf in there like it was trash for the dumpster. I got a chuckle. Beautiful box, never knew I wanted one so much.
Just absolutely freaking beautiful... I just started my Xmas gifts today, first up was just a red oak with Padouk accents keepsake box... I might have to make one of these for my mom... That walnut is crazy beautiful btw... And solid run dmc reference lol
IMO I preferred the wheat design on the back side of the copper piece more than the front. But still an awesome outcome!
Drop everything it’s a new wood whisperer video 😁😁
Simplesmente, um belo trabalho, muito bonita a caixa, parabéns.
Very nice 👏🧿
That is indeed fancy for a breadbox, now send it to me !
I must say, I love watching your videos. Your jokes and commentary, I love and even more so since it is like mine and drives the wife nuts.
I like that 3rd party camera view there, nice one!
I wish Brusso made box locks too
I like your box
I didn't know it was possible to throw bread in a humorous way.
Looks great! Best part of the vid @ 7min30 😂😂
I like to see the overkill. Then we get to see how you did it!
Is it tricky to rock a rhyme, or just a rhyme that's right on time?
Both, I think.
RIP Jam Master Jay
That is beautiful Mark, incredible work. What was the chisel that you used to sculpt the tenons?
"All that's missing is some bread"
*Yeets bread in*
I like your style dear sir
what a gorgeous piece, that dark wood (cherry?) is beautiful :)
2:13 that's right on time 👊😎
nice
This bread box wouldn't have been so beautiful without the overkill!
Not bad at all Marc.
For the copper inlay, do you think it would've looked good if you had routed the slot a little deeper than the copper, then filled it with expoxy and sanded it flush with the wood?
You should sell these on Etsy.
Fancy. A little too fancy.
I thought the purpose and design of a bread box was to stop air flow and to keep moisture in to help bread to stay fresh longer by keeping it from drying out and getting hard. So what's up with the vent holes defeating the purpose of a bread box?
Nice T-shirt! Hope you ordered a Z-Man! Best sandwich on the planet.
I really like the look of the Brusso hinges. They look really nice quality. By the way, were those wide chisels, called a Butt chisel? I've always wondered what they were for.
The project looks great, but I really think the bottom draw should be exclusively used for cookies.
I'm pretty sure the butt chisel he used came from Blue Spruce Tool Works. Killer tools with a equally impressive price tag. I don't say that to denigrate the purchase of fine tools, I'd love a set myself.
Just a thought, maybe the bottom compartment could be a draw to house your bread knives.
That's such a lovely piece, I would be proud to have it my kitchen. One thing tho, why the ventilation holes in the back, traditionally a bread bin used to keep the bread fresh for longer by sealing it away from fresh air, never the less, great vidio, thanks
There's a balance though. Seal it up too well and you can end up retaining too much moisture and the bread will get moldy instead of dry. I went with my best guess for ventilation based on breadboxes I've owned in the past but time will tell if it needs more or less.
@@woodwhisperer good point, thanks for taking the time to reply
Toodles! I thought I was the last person left who says that!! :)
Will the pie safe match the bread box? Asking for a friend.
That flap would have needed rails that are "breadbored" LOL
You are by far, my favorite dad joke channel. Curious as to why you chose woodworking to showcase your mad dad skilz? Your pretty OK at it (the wood thing) - might make a good side hustle for you. 🤪
Beautiful build as always!
would have used a shop press for the copper design
What is the oil finish?
Not a single marble rye reference. I'm disappointed. Lol
Missed opportunity!
Hey Marc, I've been a fan for years, finally feel like asking a question.
Say I want to build a desk, My goal is to have it be extremely rigid and solid, and no chance of it being easily nudged or moved.
I also don't want the top surface to dent even remotely, where possible.
I thought about using Ipe wood, as the desktop.
It's extremely dense and extremely hard, however others have suggested it might be overkill for my needs.
What do you suggest?
Overkill for most, but you are adamant about the dents. So you should be looking for material that's very high on the janka scale. Ipe is one of them but there are others that might suffice. Woods like bubinga, brazilian cherry, and quite a few others might be cheaper and provide a reasonable dent-resistant surface.
Oh to live in a climate where we could use one of these. I live in the sub-tropics of Australia, and unfortunately we have to keep bread refrigerated. Leave it in a box like this beautiful one and it would have cockroaches within hours, and mould within a day. High temperatures and high humidity do not make for a good climate for a semi-open air breadbox - bummer...! :(
