  • As a homeschooling mother for over a decade now, I have had the great opportunity to learn what does and what does not work for our family. I thought I'd share some of the things I have loved that we are doing right now! This journey of planning and curriculum finding can be super stressful, so finding some good reviews has been invaluable to me. I hope this is helpful for you!

    I have never really had an issue with my children in school until we left FL and moved to Central TX which has been mind blowing to me. This video has truly been a blessing to me. Everything is becoming more and more corrupt in our beautiful country and all I can see now is that ten years ago when I wanted to do this, I wish I had. Nevertheless, I’m starting now (so late) with an 11th grader and 9th grader but we’re doing this. Thank you for how you’ve broken this down and so clearly and calmly shared your experience. THANK YOU with tears in my eyes; I’m so appreciative.

    Very helpful and encouraging. My first year homeschooling but I'm finding I like the approach of piecing together my own mix of Curriculum.
    For Language arts I like Spectrum language arts, Spelling and reading Workbooks. The instructions are simple and I can use their topics to teach a lesson on a small whiteboard and then have my daughter do the the actual worksheet in the Workbook as practice.
    For math we are using Khan Academy along with spectrum math workbooks for additional practice.
    History and science is done much in the same way as this video. I bought some children's encyclopedias in World History and American history. I just read them outloud and we discuss it. Museums and science center trips also get incorporated.
    My daughter is still young so I read the Bible to her but I'm considering the life application study bible for her in a few years
    Very inexpensive approach

      @@LuLuLately sorry! I just noticed this was you already answering my question! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Honestly, I don’t really do anything with my 4 year old at all that would be considered typical school stuff. We play with play dough and read books and play some counting games, but mostly she just learns through play right now. I probably won’t formally start her on anything for at least a year. For the 7 year old, have they been to a school yet? I’d start with a lot of read aloud time with them and work on learning letters and their sounds first but through songs and games, trying to make it feel the least like traditional school as possible!

    I was intrigued because I saw Rod and Staff math sitting there. :) We have also landed on Rod and Staff with much relief. I have a couple questions: 1) Do you use the grades 1 and 2 workbooks? 2) For levels 4 and up, where a lesson concept is presented in the student book, have you found you absolutely needed to teach the lesson in the teacher manual in order to keep them on top of the new concepts? 3) Are there any things in teaching (either things you skipped or did overmuch) that you will change as you take the rest of your kids through? Okay...what I really want to know is will I regret not using the little drill book? haha

    • @Thetravelinghomesteaders
      @Thetravelinghomesteaders  Рік тому +1

      I do use the 1st and 2nd grade workbooks, and I really like how repetitive they are! A little secret- I’ve never bought a single teachers manual. If there’s a concept I am struggling to teach without it, we look it up on UA-cam and have always found a great tutorial! Saves us time and money! As far as things we have skipped- yes. I didn’t do the metric system with my oldest two and now we travel outside of the us and have found we use it all the time. I won’t ever skip that again!
      As far as the drill books go…I’ve never used them and have never regretted it. 😉
