  • There are many videos out there for fixing a clicking noise with the heat blowing for Chevy Impalas. I couldn't find any that talked about determining the cause of cold air blowing with the heat on WITHOUT the clicking noise, so I made my own.
    For a tutorial on replacing the actuator, see the following videos:

    Thank you for this video. Like you said, all the videos on here are about the clicking noises, and I don't have any noise. I have no heat like you, but I don't have dual-zone. So I'm wondering if that same actuator is my problem or if it's in the HVAC control module.

    • @pattho9427
      @pattho9427  3 місяці тому

      You may still have just one actuator. Wouldn't hurt to try and replace it.

      @@pattho9427 Yeah I'm gonna force myself to get under there and remove it. I'll put power to it and see if it works, that way I know for sure if it's that or the control module. There has been a couple times when pushing the rear defrost button and the fan turned off. That is the reason I suspected that the control module was on it's way out. If I remember to, I'll update. Update: I do not have an actuator on driver side. I removed the glovebox and door and took out the actuator on the left because I could feel the right one moving when I pushed the fresh air/recirculate switches. I took it apart and found one tooth missing. Putting the new one in tomorrow.

    I'm 6'1 280 lb I'm a big guy I have a 2009 Chevy Impala I just fixed this exact problem no noise but no heat on the driver side so yes it took me half the day and I had to have my son help me put it back together cuz I was getting frustrated cuz I couldn't get my fingers in there the only difference is I didn't use pliers to adjust that white part I just stuck in the unit and just Twisted it until it fit into the matching bolts and it works fine blows out hot air now and I got them two of them off of Amazon for 20 bucks so basically there are 10 bucks a piece and there's actually three of them all together one on the driver side and two on the passenger side so now I have an extra one the passenger side would only take 20 minutes so much easier

    I was glad to stumble on to your video as I got the cold air blowing on my balls only problem. I also had the clicking in the glove box twice. Each time I disconnected the clicking ones wires with a flat head screw driver and finally replaced em today. It was a bitch for my meaty hands to fit in the tiny spots. You're right. You gonna need that magnet. I taped the screws on to the socket and removed it as I screwed em in. Next week I'ma do the one on the driver side and the blower motor. If that don't fix all the problems I'ma just use the car for target practice.

    I have the EXACT same issue except mine is the other side (blows warm air on the drivers side and cold on the passenger side)...........after owning the car for a month and just ignoring it for now (It was summer and I really wasn't using the heat anyways)..........I FINALLY got the ticking noise to go along with having no heat on the passenger side. The ticking is coming from the same actuator you changed in this video. I was originally thinking maybe my passenger side actuator was bad (maybe both are?) but now that it's ticking I'm going to go ahead and replace the drivers side actuator tonight and cross my fingers that not only does the ticking stop, but the car with actually have heat on both sides!!! I know for a fact it is the drivers side that was ticking because I listened to where it was coming from, then was able to put my fingers on it and felt the ticking, which i then just unplugged for now because i didn't have the $ to buy the actuator. Once unplugged it No longer ticks and i no longer have heat at all. I'll let you know once I replace it tonight if it fixes the lack of heat on the passenger side. (Which I do not think it will.....I have a feeling one of the passenger side actuators is also bad)

    2008 impala makes hvac clicking sound but its not the two located behind the glove box. Is there a third one located near the center of the dash?

    • @pattho9427
      @pattho9427  7 років тому

      Yes. That is the one I changed. Go to approximately 5:53 and you will see where I flashed the light on the drivers side by the steering column. You have to remove the panel next to the accelerator to get to the box.

    • @jamesbanasky3672
      @jamesbanasky3672 7 років тому +1

      The one I need to replace is up under the column and up to the right near the radio. How much of the dash needs to come off to get to it?

    • @pattho9427
      @pattho9427  7 років тому

      None of the actual dash needs to come off, which is nice. Just the side panel by the accelerator. You may need to remove the panel under the steering column. But that is about all.

That was last summer because I was getting cold air only from the passenger side. Now that's winter the passenger side blows cold air only and the driver side blows hot air. I don't know what to do and taking it to the dealership is out of the question.

      This definitely sounds like the actuator. You probably have no other symptoms, no clicking. Could be both of them have become stuck. I am not a mechanic or know the likelihood of this happening. I would take it to the dealer, let them find out if that is the problem for sure. If it is, buy 2 actuators from online and change them yourself.
