Do you have any tips in finding a well-maintained refurbished copier?

Do not buy used inkjet or toner ( I'm looking at you, Brother MFC ). Today's consumer printers can dry out in just 10 days if it is not used. The Brother MFC prints sheets, however, on every third print, the drum defect shows up as a black bar running the length of the sheet. I have bought on craigslist & Offerup and got two lemons !?!

I'm a Senior Field Service technician for an independent copier dealer here in Tennessee and it's been my experience that there are some dealers that will do a quick visual inspection, give the machine a general cleaning, then turn it around and sell it as "Refurbished".
When we do a refurb of a copier, our technicians check all of the internal parts (Drums, Developer, Transfer Components, Fixing components) and if any of them are close to needing replacement or rebuilding, we take care of it.
Another thing we do is test ALL of the functions of the machine.... Print, Copy, Scan and Fax to make certain they will function as they should for the customer. We will also visually inspect all of the external covers and clean them....or if necessary, replace them. The customer receives a machine that although may be used, we know it will function as if it were new.
Check the Better Business Bureau website for any customer ratings regarding service of whoever you're planning on purchasing from. You might pay a little more for the machine or for the service, but the old saying holds true.... "You get what you pay for."
Many thanks to AIS for this channel!! . It's nice to see a company that cares about their customers, and tries to educate them on making smart buying decisions.

@@TheCopierChannel That would depend on which brands you carry/service. We're a Savin/Ricoh, Sharp, Canon and Konica center. Something that would DEFINITELY be helpful for customers is showing them how to clean ADF scan glass. I still get quite a few calls for "lines on copies and prints", and when I arrive I find prints look just fine... as well as copies off the platen.
If you have some models with a single-pass document feeder, make sure to show them where BOTH scan glasses are.
      Thanks for what you're doing.

@@steve9199 Fortunately we do have videos on those issues! Check out our Tech Tip series on our channel. Our video titled "Why Do My Copies Have Streaks and Lines?" identifies where both scan glasses are, but for a Kyocera copier. bit.ly/2DXxKK9
