The Mid-Year C2 Corvette is the Most Beautiful and Historically Interesting Sting Ray - 1964 Coupe

  • SOLD Mid-Year Corvettes, made from 1963-1967, are arguably the best looking Corvette made, and loved even by people who don't car much about cars. Designed by automotive legends like Zora-Arkus-Duntov, Bill Mitchell, Larry Shinoda, and many others, they represented the quest to built a true America sports car that could compete with the best Europe had to offer, both on the street and the racetrack.
Bringing about many technical innovations at the time, the car was completely designed from the bottom up to reward the driver with handling, precision, power, and braking while delivering comfort and a smooth ride on the street. Innovations that came out during the MidYear era were independent suspension, a ladder-type frame, wind tunnel testing, 4-wheel disc brakes, and more.
All in all, these were the right car, at the right time, built by the right people. I believe they are the most interesting Corvette ever made, the most beautiful, and in many ways the most important. This was the car that sealed the Corvette in to American culture permanently.

I got a Prius as a rental once, I think it was a 2020 or 21 model...I almost instantly returned it. I drive a 20yr old ecobox with manual everything, so this was really hard to drive, sensors and alarms going off left and right for no reason...just because I was backing up. I will take a basic car/truck any day. Love this vette for it basic raw muscle.

If you had shown me a sample of that paint and said it was for a Corvette, I would have thought you were crazy. But it works so well - all the creases, curves and other features of the body are emphasized instead of being overwhelmed by shiny red, black, or whatever. The guy who buys that will be getting a real beauty.

If GM was smart they would make this exact Model over again for a reasonable price. I bet it would sell like hotcakes! But they don’t think that way. At a certain point you achieve perfection in design! This is it! Just Look at it! I bet it’s great in a Windtunnel Test! What drag quotient could this model have? It’s so sleek and streamlined! I love it and the back windows are so cool looking!
    Nice description you made.
Good speech!! Yes, the Corvette is a Celebration of life and freedom! The freedom to drive down the road and roam freely!

Very futuristic looking compared to the hunk of junk looking cars today. People have lost their sense of wonder and appreciation for the art of design and engineering. SUV's built like tanks, so mommy can go shopping with baby and not fear being hit. Manufacturers today cater to crap!

1964 the least desirable of the C2 Vettes. No split window of 1963 and no disc brakes starting in 1965.

A really cool car but the color is a tragedy.
