Next video = Project Quattro - Full AWD conversion 😎 whilst Ryan is on his next holiday 🙊
Did you managed to do this conversion?
Damn, I honestly never knew the A4 3.0TDi was available WITHOUT Quattro!!!! (I'll stick with my A6 Avant 3.0TDi Quattro then...... with a lot more than 218bhp standard as well! 😉)
Now you know!
@@ryanp6138 😆😆
For the next project, you know that V12 Q7s are getting real cheap right 👀
Imagine a 1500nM 1000hp diesel V12...
In addition to being an absolute monster for maintenance costs, the few cases I know of people tuning them basically find they are already close to the safe limits, the entire platform being both designed and built by a external performance subsidiary.
What makes the normal 1.8-3.0L motors so good is that they span such a range from factory, needing to be cheap to run/durable for a postal van all the way through to fairly quick for a sports Audi trim. This means there is a huge range of parts/knowledge to draw from, and plenty of headroom to run a cheap unit up and make decent power. Low planned volumes of production for the v12 means its does share some v6 parts (like two separate ECU's) but the integration of some of this duplicity makes them even more complex to work on, while the Q7 being such a large vehicle means the performance results you get for the headaches honestly only really keep up with a smaller vehicle/engine when doing anything but shooting dyno numbers.
Packaging of the v12 is also an issue, its intentionally lower in bore/higher in stroke and otherwise compressed lengthwise to fit in engine bays designed for a v8, and this leads to all manner of other compromises from siamesed ports (like an oldschool mini) to four separate radiators and seperate two oil coolers. There isn't the headroom to just turn up the tune, there isn't the parts to swap in to make it durable and there isn't the room to put larger aftermarket solutions in for more airflow/cooling ect. Hence the doubling horsepower and 50% increase in torque you mention is pretty close to a pipe dream in any vehicle thats legal to drive on the road, and still wouldn't keep up with a tuned diesel A5 on the track.
Top job keeping the content relevant with the newer models on the market.
I've got a 16 plate A4 Avant Quattro with the same engine. Only called in a couple of weeks ago to see about tuning. Was told would be about 280 after. Glad to see you've got some more out of it. 👍🏻
Reliable car and engine ?
Hahah he really hates this being a front wheel drive i wasn’t expecting a burnout tbh lol
I was very annoyed
Burnout turned out good too!
Ryan P i didnt even knew you could block the ebrake Lol
@@mickaelmorgado20155 I didn't but lucky the camera was there
Regards the tune on this A4, in order to push the output to 300hp, did you change any hardware (turbo) or was it a simple remap?
Nice to see a new diesel in the works for power as well.
This is going to get over 600bph jeeje. diésel power, love you guys
How much bhp could you get out of the 2.0 litre, compared to the 3.0 litre
Did you build projects based on the legendary Audi 80 1.9 TDI ?
Really excited you got one of these and to see what you do with it. I have the same engine 218 but sensibly i got the Quattro lol. I had mine remapped and it got to 286. Would love the 320 ish mark. And might have to go to your website if you start doing some nice kit for it
No gearbox / clutch issues? I have the 218 in an A4 quattro, but am a bit hesitant about blowing the gearbox...
Yasss another 3.0 TDI V6 💯
Great vid guys. Interesting that my A8 3 litre tdi quattro can make over 300bhp with zF box.
S-tronic again? You guys should have went for the 272 bhp, because that one comes with the ZF8 and quattro as standard, would have been a good experience for you learning to map it and would also be able to take some serious torque.
We have other products nto make before going ball out on this new platform
I think this is great for front wheel drive, for the 218hp, Quattro DSG stage one they usually get 286hp. There about. Plus you didn’t mention besides the different gear box the 272hp version has the 8 speed tiptronic, which is a converter automatic ZF gearbox, and it has a different Quattro, the permanent 60/40 rear/front . Or am I wrong is the 218 version v6 the same Quattro system only different gearbox?
The system is the same but the DL382 box very weak
Great videos just recently got into watching them could you do one on a f10 520d Bmw if you can
You mentioned turbos are the same for the higher output does the golf mk7 150 ps tdi have the same turbo as the 184ps gtd ?
No it's smaller on those
Itll hae a better gearbox than my black a5 with the cvt that gave you a nightmare when i was offshore! Mental car now tho the work you done was unreal!
Good thing I saw this vid. I'm shopping for a new car and I found a super nice B9 3.0 TDI Avant. I automatically thought it was Quattro. Turns out it’s not. LOL what party killer.
Buying a 3.0 quattro a4 next week on a 2013. 240 standard thinking of mapping it to 300 but then would you say it’d need the gearbox map aswell to give it more poke? Is it necessary?
You don't NEED to but it helps
Yes I plan to buy A4 B9 2016,2017 V6 TDI 272hp this summer. So I would love to see this remap next if you please can. And would it be enough to only replace the air filter for a high flow K&N ? Plus a remap to about 310hp, or what else would you advise for a remap like that?
Do the intercooler (we list them) and forget about the K&N!
What you mean you lost the intercooler. So you suggested I should only mount a better intercooler and remap but don’t bother with a high flow air filter?
Can you even mount a second turbo make it a biturbo, use a bigger second turbo is that even possible.
These new V6 diesels are claimed to have issues with the camshafts, do you have info on which of these are affected - 218hp or 272hp versions, or all of them?
Not sure on that, I think it's any but random
After watching your video would you recommend getting this car remapped to 300 or does it just spin up too easily?
They are good tuned!
audi should make it a bit more obvious wether its quattro or not. the difference between the older 272 and the newer 286 is just turbo, did i hear that correctly? i also wonder, are there any hardware engine differences between 320 bitdi and 272 tdi other than that one has 2 turbos instead of one?
So if you need to make decision to go quattro stronic or quattro multitronic, what would you choose? I have a5 3.0tdi b9 quattro 218hp with revo remap about 330hp 100-200kmh around 13.5sec
The 8 Speed 8HP is the better gearbox to go for
My 2016 A4 3.0 tdi 272 quattro now runs 323bhp 720nm from stage 1 tune. What would be best for further development? Without removing dpf
Big intercooler and turbo.
How is your map running Andy?
Is the dpf removal mean more hp aswell as fuel economy?
In theory it can, but not only is it illegal in a lot of places, but the benefit of actually doing so varies a lot on your other modification. If your just commuting in a fairly stock car your realistically not going to notice a difference other than the "regen" cycle never starting, but if your trying to get the last percent out of a >350hp build the stock system is likely starting to be pretty restrictive.
I have this exact same car, 3.0tdi 214bhp fwd, would you recommend getting this mapped? Is there anything else that would need doing hardware wise? Im not too far from you guys so would be interested in getting it mapped by yourselves potentially
Please email us with your Reg or your VIN - sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk
@@DarksideDevelopments Done, cheers :)
Hey guys,
How have you gotten on with this car since tuning it . . . . the gearbox specifically and its 400nm limit? I have the Quattro version, the DL382-7Q gearbox in my A4 3.0 TDI and am worried about tuning it due this the gearbox limit I've read about. I would like to add a few bhp to mine if I can but don't want to wreck my gearbox in a few months time.
Does the limit mean the gearbox simply cannot handle over 400nm or that it has limiters at 400nm to protect it . ..but it can probably take more.
Thanks
We tune the box to exceed this limit but the clutches are weaker and slip not much after!
@@DarksideDevelopments thanks for such a quick reply.
Can someone please explain to me how this car is front wheel drive while having the engine mounted longitudinally?
There are many like that
I have same engine with Quattro and stage1 with 490nm and 282HP. I´m thinking about max torque handled by gearbox. Taking into account that there is a new version of DL382 called DL382+ mounted in A6 and A7 that can handle 500nm stock, could we replace clutches of DL382+ into DL382? By increasing pressure and with this clutches model, it would handle up to more than 600nm. Do you think that is viable? Both gearboxes are very very similar, only bigger cooler and different clutches (I think)
Only one way to find out!
@Darkside Developments hahaha you are the experts! I have seen your video of replacing flywheel and dual clutches of other S-Ttronic (DL501 I think) in a S5.
It was our A5. The clutch is different, later kit is 0HL141030B
Edited the above after some digging
@@DarksideDevelopments yes, is another version of stronic. The problem is if new dl382 can work with other more powerfull clutch like dl382+ clutch package
What's the vrs running in the back ground
Octavia VRS just had an Oval port conversion with 200hp turbo. Montecarlo Fabia was just a tuned 1.6 so 145bhp
Could the s tronic handle the torque after remap?
Only just
So you went from a 3.0 TDI A5 to a 3.0 TDI A4..... I was kinda hoping you could do something different... like the VAG 1.6TDI or the 4.2TDI....imagine getting 700hp from a 4.2 TDI A8. That would have been cool.
Later we will. We need to produce products we can sell too!
Roddy Gaddafi I used to own a 1.6 TDI Cayc Leon Remapped to 146.9bhp 340nm and it was pretty effin quick for what it was because of the long gearing it just kept pulling
@@ryanp6138 arent the platforms for the A5's 3.0 and the A4's 3.0 ... surely most of it is transferable...
Nice video and lovely car😂You guys love challenges..hah
Any plans to tune one of the 2.0tdi Ultra platforms, like A4 or A6 ultra 190 2.0tdi?Wouldlove to see one of the most economic engines what is capable of.
We do :D
We have tuned a few of those engines before. The last one saw 225bhp on our dyno from stock hardware and just a custom remap.
@@DarksideDevelopments Which one from the 2014+ Audi range you guys think is the most tuneable?Just asking
@@hristohristov8787 Any of the 3.0 TDI's are the most tuneable engine wise. The gearbox in this one is the weak link.

@@DarksideDevelopments yer dosent look to bad to be honest not ideal but atleast the chain aint snapping ive just been to look at an a7 and the coolant level was allmost empty and was oil round all teh injector areas
not sure if it would be an easy fix or not but had to walk away real shame as the car looked in real good condition other than that
also any opinion on the f30 330d engine vs a 3.0 tdi what is the more durable in your opinion cheers
Both are good engines, we've had a fair few f series 330d's come through darkside and they are solid, reliable and pretty easy to make big power figures with a few mods
Hey Ryan I’ve got the 218 bhp quattro 2016 Audi A4 3.0l and I’ve been trying to do some research on the gear box and what it can do...
I’ve heard the gearbox is a 382 7Q or something similar apparently these can take 400 ft/lb of torque so I’m apprehensive about going for an increase in power ? I hear there are two variants of the gear box though? Ideally I want a daily which has been pushed to its max limits from my research stage 1 is 320hp 680nm ... stage 2 (egr dpf) is 330hp 700nm? Would these be too much for the 2016 218 gearbox?
I want it to sound good but I’ve heard taking out the DPF and straight pipe aka stage two only increases bhp by like 10 so I’m thinking that’s pointless but maybe a cat back exhaust will sound decent?
Can you ever get flames shooting out of these I know the exhausts don’t run as hot as petrol variants so less likely but is it possible with a rich run map and spark plugs etc?
Can this benefit from a gear box remap to improve 0-60 and keep it as reliable as possible ?
Cheers
DPF off is pointless unless blocked. This clutch pack did not handle everything the engine could give. Flame spitting is silly!
Gearbox map is a good idea
Mine is the Quattro version of this car (218ps) , does it have a stronger version of this gearbox , I have mine stage 1 mapped and I’ve heard it can be abit dodgy
Quattro is stronger DL501 :)
@@DarksideDevelopments thank you
Ever do anything with this? I’ve a diesel v6 218hp Quattro A5 that’s doing nothing. Tempted to spin over a map/exhaust on it.
We just tuned it to 300bhp, goes well but the gearbox in the FWD models can't take much more so we never went further.
Haha my guess was Avant 2.0 TDI couple months back when you did those teasers, but at least I got Audi and B9 A4 right. :)
Good try!
@@ryanp6138 fwd big letdown tho. This car with a quattro and that truck big-ass turbo would be a monster.
What reliability like for a 2016 3 TDI V6? And how many miles can you expect out of it with maintenance
Its hard to say but many miles if serviced well.
Currently on 71K miles on a stock 3.0 TDI EA897evo2 (DCPC) nothing major gone wrong except the usual coolant shut off valve leak. Serviced every 10K miles. There were a few reports on German forums of engine damage due to crank bearings but only time will tell.
Hello. tell me which turbine and what changes need to be made to take 380 horses power and 810 torque from the engine 3.0 TDI. I'm from Russia

Can clutch be upgraded to accommodate a stage 2?
The clutch packs in the DL382 aren't very big, unfortunately we don't have upgrades for these.
You can still make around 300 BHP and 425 LB FT with it though..
Whats causing the torque limitation?
Less clutch packs
Is there any difference between this engine and the 3.0 diesel in the Sq5 tdi and the S4/S5 tdi
A lot of the 3.0's are very similar (base engine) - What is it exactly you are wanting to know?
@@DarksideDevelopments just curious , I’m only 18 in student debt so I’ll probably never have a big torqy diesel. By the time, I have money in a decade, diesel will be considered. the devils juice if it isn’t already

It handles much more than 400nm but certainly not as much as we hoped for!
I'm glad to hear you say that as I have just purchased a quattro version of the same engine !

Generally a more expensive car for a given age (being a top trim of many, vs this which is the entry level v6) and at 282 flywheel hp rated the heavier BMW i6 isn't really quicker, with torque on the stock turbo starts to fall pretty from only 2,400rpm. They are nice cars/motors that cruise effortlessly on the highway, and many will claim FR layout is desirable for a true sports car driving experience, but realistically the older base design and transmission offerings will hold you back vs the VW group motors if you try push for more performance than the 50-65hp gain of emissions delete/exhaust/remap.
