The last few weeks of living life in the slow lane have been some of our favorite times since moving here 3 years ago, we're really leaning into enjoying the fruits of our labours (no pun intended). I'm sure some of you have been wondering what's been going on with the container home and we are just itching to fill you in. Let's just say, squirrel better keep on with those lessons 👀

Watermelon, zucchini, squash, pumpkins, Cucumbers - anything that runs/vines out needs lots of space. Next year you will want a separate patch for the items that spread. You should also give the cabbage a lot of space. Now cabbage you can cut out the center & leave the roots - baby cabbages will grow in like Brussel Sprouts in place of the head you removed. Tomatoes you should start at the end of January. Now if you plant corn next year - you need 8 rows and you can place pole beans in with the corn - the green beans will grow up the corn stalks so you don't need a trellis system.
    Good job on the garden.

The corn supports the peas, the peas fix nitrogen for the corn, the squash shades the soil and keeps the weeds down. Very efficient use of space in a small garden.

I felt like the coconut pots soaked up the water that was supposed to be saved for the plants and then it evaporated faster. Cutting potato seeds will certainly increase the number of plants you can plant, but they do emerge slower and will grow less quickly the smaller the pieces are. Probably don’t want to cut them into more than 4 pieces, and you will have best results if you leave them whole. It’s a balance between speed or quantity, but the potato uses the nutrients from the potato to grow into it has a good root developed so the more flesh available the faster/larger it’ll grow

It's SO MUCH easier to grow potatoes in grow bags or burlap sacs. When they're ready, you just dump them out of the bags, et voila! You're just using too much space in the garden where you can either plant other veggies or berries, like strawberries..

T&T, I just wanted to tell about how you two (and the boys) put a smile on my face every Sunday. I can be in a lousy mood, and when I watch your episode everything is better in life. I am not certain if you realize what effect you have on us viewers with your positive attitude and constant joking. And we are getting all of this for free - no doctor fee involved. Your river kayak trip was wonderful and the scenery is breathtaking. I hope you have a great week and we look forward to an update on your house. Love you both!

Have you guys seen the hack where you fill milk jugs with water and put pin holes in the bottom. Set the jugs by the plants and slow water all day. That may help you with the water you need for your Sugar babies.

When you cut the potatoes they need to dry out before you plant them. They may be fine but if you don’t have as much success as you thought you would that will be the reason.

With a new fridge you are supposed to let it stand for 24 hours before plugging it in especially after having it on it's side . It's to let the gas settle. Unless it's different in Canada . Love you both

  • @cassmacdonald-perfectlyimp2486

The sheer joy in all things you both have had this week is just delightful! I have to admit that when Todd insisted that you didn’t need the dolly I was taken back to the moment that one of my surgeons said we didn’t need to get the rep in for a last minute procedure.
    We did.
Your scotch mints are our mint imperials here in Scotland and yes, VERY addictive!
PS you’ll have to throw some frozen spinach, some chickpeas and some vegan hotdogs into some stock this winter for the world’s quickest and tastiest soup. And you can also make a light potato based soup with cubed potatoes and vegan hotdogs for the winter. Very German xx

Always exciting to plant out a vegie garden.
A few tips: If you are cutting the potatoes before you plant them, you need to let them seal/callous over so that they don't rot. Wait a few hours at absolute minimum but a day or two is better.
And harden off the seedlings outside for a week or 2 before planting so they can get used to the elements. Glass and greenhouses keep them protected and the contrast from the greenhouse to a garden bed can, more often than not, be too great and the seedling will die.

Horticulturist here. Just want to help you with your vegetable seedlings. Their pots should never be sitting in water like that. They can't completely dry out so you have to keep an eye on them and water them regularly but the water should drain away right away. Make sure they are in trays that have holes in the bottom.

Did you know that after a fridge or freezer has been on it's side, you are supposed to leave it upright for a minimum of an hour before plugging it in and turning it on. Hope by plugging it in right away that you don't have any problems with your new fridge. The least expensive place I've found to buy those Taylor Farms bagged salads is Costco - they are usually $7.99 for a two-pack which is a phenomenal price compared to regular grocery store where they charge $11.00 for two.
