Nobody and I mean NOBODY in the Sport of Football was someone even defended this way. The way teams had to defend him, some even tried to take him out of the game by injuring him. You can Google highlights of Real Madrid defenders literally pulling him with their whole body weight, kicking him, stomping him. And for him to always be compose, at least on the outside and just play football. He is the GOAT.

This was the first time I saw Messi play. I had heard rumours about him being a bit special, but I was sceptical, and was thinking, ok, now let's see how good you really are! Before the game was over, I was telling people that this kid is one of the best players that I have ever seen. Both UCL & Europa results low key support this argument - where a mid level Spanish squad like Sevilla was spanking Man U a few times. And even “top” English players from a national tourney scope have been underwhelming for a long time.

@richardnanayawrichie6957 He didn't need to play in the Premier League for us to see him regularly destroying the best Premier League teams in the Champions League. Weaker players than Messi like Aguero, Suarez, and Sanchez dominated the Premier League for years. My own family KNEW I had been singing dinhos praises. Absolutely magical. But on the car ride there, I saw this posted on google videos. The Chelsea match. Being little, I had never seen someone so small be so strong. The battle with arjen, him beating him as arjen fell… he was fearless at such a young age. The comments here are very true. He was a boy here, fearless of the mourinho men. And Messi was better younger. He didn’t give a fuck WHO you were. Those ankles are done. You could be 6’6 it didn’t matter. He’s chopping you down.
This related to me. I believed in myself and eventually I became pretty good. Seeing this match was crucial for me in so many levels of mentality in life, beyond the beautiful game.
At the dinner, I said Messi. And most of the casuals were like WHO?!? and some who knew were like.. okayy..? I swear to god this is the clear truth
Messi the greatest in my eyes
One of the greatest failures in my life was not seeing him life, in the camp nou. If I adopt or have kids, if there is someone this inspiring. We will see him/her in the front lines of the stadium. Idc. I’ll sell the house. I can’t imagine how inspiring this kid was in person. Fucking heavyweight of heavyweight

The best football ever was played in those decades. Starting in the 90s, peaking 2000 and declining towards end of 2010 as more and more money started to rule the game.
Before the 90s and the total football , the game was also beatiful but more slower and spaces were huge.
Today is about muscles and money.
The names on the pitch only that day, Lampard, Terry, Robben, Makelele, Cech, Ronaldinnho, Eto'o, Deco, Puyol, Iniesta.

I kinda miss that aspect of the game and also this makes you respect Messi even more since he was able to play like that during the times when the game was this physical when he was just a teenager.
