Great info, Sterling! I turned my first pen last weekend. A new friend of mine in town has a lathe and he invited me over and taught me by letting me turn a couple of pens. I had never used a lathe before, but now I'm really wanting to get one. Thanks for the info here!

Great video covering the basics of pen turning. I think I'll definitely add the pen saver tail stock for my wife. And really interested in how that finish works out for you. Make sure to let folks know in a a couple months.

How is the doctors woodshop finish holding up? Sanding the CA finish can be a pain. I either don't sand enough and have bumps or ridges or I sand too much and have to reapply the finish. It just never seems to turn out right. Great video!!!

Good info for people. I can not tell you how many hundreds of pens I have made and still have not purchased a mandrel saver. Keep meaning to but also keep forgetting to LOL. Have already had to replace one mandrel and you think I would have picked up the saver at the same time but, nope. Silly me. I like the finish that polish made and looking forward to seeing how it holds up.

woodturningjohn Thanks John, I just went ahead and got the saver when I got the mandrel, didn't want to take the chance of bending it, my problem is losing the dang bushings lol
