That Reggie 40pt game brag is true, he said it out his own mouth. Lol his facial expressions was so great. He really thought he did something and cheryl modestly said she dropped 105 😁 One of the best basketball stories ever
oh! its funner when Reggie tell's it. He was like Reggie: Yeah i had 40, so how'ed you do tonight Cheryl: I had a big night Reggie: ahh how big 50? 60? (he knows his sis can light it up) Cheryl: oh 105 Reggie: huh.... what?? Reggie: runs in the house to mom screaming " I can't win, i can't win aHHHH"
I can't 100% verify that this is a true story, but this is how it was told to me. A guy I went to high school with named Alex went to UCLA on a baseball scholarship. He had also been an all-league basketball player in high school, and one day as a freshman at UCLA, he was playing in a pick-up game where Reggie Miller (also a freshman) was also playing. They were talking after the game and Alex asked Reggie how old he was the first time he beat Cheryl playing one-on-one. Without missing a beat, Reggie replied, "I'll let you know if it ever happens." 😀
I was impressed by her before we got to hear Reggie admit she was beating him, I couldn't agree more. She woke up the mainstream to Women's basketball at all levels, in my opinion anyways.
I think her teammate C. Cooper is the goat, everywhere she went she won titles, even in the WNBA playing against women almost half her age she still dominated. Imagine if she hit the WNBA at 20. I wish Cheryl would have got be a chance to play in the WNBA
@@maddcapper4548 bro Cheryl never had comp. she was dope but unless you are Reggie Miller you don’t know. Diana smashed every level. All that came up. She is dr j. Jordan is still to come
@Scott Davidson Your innate bias towards woman lets you believe that its impossible. All the evidence points toward her being able to make the NBA. Reggie Miller couldnt even beat her until he was well into college. So you're saying she couldnt even come iff the bench? Clearly from a mental standpoint she would have risen to the occasion.
A true legend and the greatest women’s basketball player EVER. USC was loaded with All- Americans in Cherry Miller, the McGee twins, Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Rhonda Windham, Monica Lamb, Tina Thompson and Cherie Nelson. Imagine a lineup of Rhonda and Cynthia at guards, Cheryl and Tina at forwards and Lisa at center, they could have easily beat any WNBA team ! ! !

Cheryl Miller was great for her time but these girl today will dominate her. I don’t think she was better than Cynthia Cooper or Sheryl Swoops, or Sue Bird just to name a few.
Naaa I'm not trynna hear she the goat . Come on she played in college . At a time women's basketball was weak not even in a league with the best of best college players [pro league] Women's basketball is just recently in the last decade becoming a watchable product. So why would the 80s be better . It wasnt!!. Its way more talent in today's time.
Reggie didn't beat her 1 on 1 until he was around 20 years old. Which was about the same time that he was selected as first team all pac-10 and then was drafted to the NBA maybe a year or two later. A college sophomore Reggie Miller would destroy every single WNBA player who ever played. So if he was struggling with Cheryl at his skill level, she would waste any woman no doubt. And to your point about the talent level of today's game, you are probably right in saying that there's more talent than ever. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything. For instance, let's say there's 30 highly talented players in the NBA today(I'm taking All-Star caliber), and back in the 80's-90's there were roughly 16 highly talented players. Just because there are more talented players in today's game doesn't mean that they are more talented than the 16 players from the 80's-90's. Quantity does not automatically mean quality. Also you have to consider other factors when comparing players from different generations. Medical science, nutrition, and even training equipment(or recovery equipment) has made leaps and bounds since the 80's. Not only that, but the rules of basketball has changed dramatically in order to benefit offensive players while it has severely penalized defensive players. This was done to facilitate higher scoring games for the purpose of drawing in more viewers because a casual fan likes to watch teams score 120+ in a shoot out instead of an 80 point defensive grind. Back in the 80's-90's it was harder to score points because of the rules. It's not like the players didn't have the ability to score, it's that the game didn't allow it. So to compare the different generations, you have to create an imaginary scenario in which each generation played under the same rules(let's say today's rules), with the same medical technology. In other words, the only way to truly compare them is by putting each player on equal ground. Steph Curry is probably the greatest shooter ever, but he wouldn't be if it weren't for Reggie Miller creating the formula for other players to replicate. Then Ray Allen picked up the torch and expanded the boundaries of what a sharp shooting elite scorer could be. Eventually Steph and later Dame continued from where Ray left off. So steph Curry may be the greatest shooter ever, if Reggie Miller and Ray Allen hadn't laid the foundation, would steph even be a starter in the league or would he be like his brother, good but not great. You may think that players are better today, but there has been no players to revolutionize basketball since the 80's-90's. Players like Kobe and Wade replicated the gameplay that Jordan perfected, and LeBron just continued the formula created by guys like Magic and even Pippen to a degree. Magic was the OG point forward, Jordan revolutionized the way that a two-way guard could dominate with godlike athleticism, crisp fundamentals and amazing footwork. Roughly 20 years ago, Reggie started the 3pt trend that has taken over basketball, which wouldn't have happened without Bird popularizing the 3pt line after its inauguration. Guys like Rasheed and Dirk created what we know today as a stretch big. If Reggie had come up in today's league, and had someone to mimick like Steph and Dame both had, then I have no doubt that Reggie would be the best shooter ever(I personally think he is tho, and Ray Allen recently said the same thing and made a very good point as to why). However, Steph and Dame have revolutionized the acceptable 3pt range. Great players replicate other great players, but just like imitations of the Mona Lisa, there is only one masterpiece painted by Leonardo da Vinci. It is the standard by which others are measured
Maybe she's was the missing link she was retired for 10 years before the league started maybe if they a wnba by her time it would of went another direction

I think that knee injury probably was a factor in that. Had she not gotten hurt, things might have been different. Swoopes was an amazing player too. Probably the 2 best of all time.
You make a good case for Cheryl Miller being the best during the time she played, but I think you have overrated her impact on the game. When she entered USC 40 years ago there was not nearly the number of great women basketball players as there are today. I am sure she changed the game in the sense that she inspired young girls to take up basketball. However, I think you should let context temper your passion. Loved you on ESPN, and I love you on First Things First.

In the era before the men started weight training and becoming even more athletic and physical, yeah I think she would have made history as the first and only woman to be signed to an NBA team. I think she would've had a small role but did pretty well.
