- Ever since Boeing began sending the 777X to Spokane for testing, I've been waiting patiently for them to finally send it to Portland. Today sees all that waiting finally come to fruition. Incredible to finally get to see it in person and listen to the roar of the GE9Xs. Enjoy some of my favorite footage I've ever gotten.
Flight: BOE1 (PDX-MWH)
Date: 10/16/20
The Queen of the Skies 747 has truly found a worthy successor to her throne in the 777. Long Live the King 777❤️
The King is the a380
747 have no successor
No plane will ever be able to replace it while it's gone
@@mstrmren The A380 was a disaster from the start.. that's why Airbus stopped making them.
@@samdedman7557 That doesnt mean the a380 is the King of the Sky
@@samdedman7557 And it was only a faliure because it was released so late, if it was build at the time the 747 was nee, it would have been a massive sucess
I love the roar of the Boeing 777 with GE engine.
Me too!

@@PortlandAviation Boeing 777Xs are safe
I worked at Boeing for 22 years starting in 1978 and departing in 2000. The 777 was my favorite program, by far. Very proud of her and the record she has created after all these years. She'll be flying at least another 30 years so could easily outlive me, work I did as a relatively young man.
It's certainly a superior plane and deserves the love and positivity it receives! Thanks for your work on it.
When the 777 production line was launched in the early 1990's, the program motto as you probably recall was "Working Together," a philosophy pioneered by Phil Condit that created an atmosphere of close cooperation between the customer, suppliers, and Boeing support organizations. The result was the creation of an airplane that offered outstanding performance with quality and longevity, and at a reasonable cost. Sadly, those production concepts that were so instrumental in creating this wonderful airplane seemed to have been largely forgotten, or ignored, on later programs.
👏👏👏
Massive plane. Largest 2 engine plane ever!
Hi. Did the get the idea early from the 757 767???
i dont know if anyone mentioned this but that bird that appeared to take off with the plane was crazy in sync and it made me smile =)
Like the way it effortlessly glides into the air during take off is stunning....
Only looks effortless because of the light weight during testing or the late rotation. Very common on test flights.
Damn those engines are massive!
Yep, almost as wide as the fuselage!
@@airplanes0015 I just have to see that up close.
@@locoHAWAIIANkane yeah. I wish I saw one! Last night I went planespotting at ATL and saw a Korean Air A380. It was amazing how huge it was!
@@airplanes0015 a 737 can easily fit in it
@@josebasilioconcepcion4377 yep. I can’t believe how huge they are though.
I love the bird taking off at the same time around 1:20. Just ironic and fantastic symbolism.
I had the pleasure of working on the controls systems for those GE9X engines! It was pretty awesome for my first job straight out of college! :D
Wow....
I in college in the uk so not university like but I’m wanting to become a mechanical engineer for civil aviation
LUCKY DUUUUCK!!
Wait, you got to program the FADEC? THAT'S SO COOL! Gotta fight compressor stalls, flutter, lag, and flameouts!
@@belacickekl7579 Yup! Performed software testing at the GE facility around Cincinnati, OH.
I would agree with many, that the 777X will now carry the torch from the 747.
Such a beautiful bird. Hard to believe that the 777's been in service for nearly 30 years already. How time flies.
Twin-engine jets have a reputation for being small narrow body aircraft, but it’s hard to believe that the 777X is the same size if not slightly bigger and longer than a 747 and an A380, plus carrying a similar number of passengers!
this is basically boeing's way of saying "fuck quad-jets."
@@cbawitlife but trijets and quadjets are equally important, for safety reasons..
Do ur research. The 777x has a max takeoff weight of 775,000lbs while the 747 and a380 has a max takeoff weight of 988,000 and 1,208,000lbs. The 777x is longer than both the 747 and a380 but it isn’t bigger. Also, the 747 and a380 has a max passenger capacity of 660 and 853 while the 777x is 550. Don’t comment if u know nothing about what you’re talking about
HUGE LIKE, You got some incredible footage, love this bird and look at those GE9Xs 😎👍
Thanks!
That’s some sweet action! I’ve never heard GE9X’s before, but the sound from the videos was quite interesting.
Thanks! Yeah, it seems to sound a bit like the GE90, but it also sounds pretty spooky at low power. Seems they took a leaf out of the Pratt and Whitney book on that one.
🌏🌍🌎🎂
The silhouette after take off is so magnificent.
I was there that day catering Alaska and I saw it land. 777 sheesh 🔥
What’s up Ravy? How’s Sky Chefs? LOL
That truck driver (first clip) really wanted to race my 777x, but it was game over as soon as the beast started rolling.
love watching those wingtips fold. so exciting to see this beauty in action. great footage!
Thanks! Yeah, I love that too!
@@PortlandAviation Air Canada should order these 777Xs
So looking forward to seeing more of these beauties within the next few years. Fantastic footage!
Yeah, you're definitely not alone there! Thanks!
Only the 777 has that most unique engine sound that I rlly love. The 777 was my childhood plane, because I have flown in it a lot of times. Also, since I have ridden on a 777, for some reason it has very smooth landings compared to others. I remember getting of the plane down stairs and looking at the 2 massive engines. They where so big!!!!
This video will go viral. 777x is an aerial phenomenon.
i just LOVE the sound and design of this wonderful aircraft
Giant engines. Super long wingspan. Looks really cool.
No other aviation UA-cam channel has this awesome footage do the 777X!
777X is actually like the son of 747, he replaces his retired mother in the sky, enjoy ur old age Queen of the sky now ur son has become the new king of the sky 🛫
1:21 who else pictured birdstrike in your head
Edit: dang bro didn't even expect likes
As much as I've loved working on this beauty, I'm 10x as excited to fly on it!
Should definitely be a good experience!
@@PortlandAviation hopefully they should perform in farnborough show just like the 787 and 737max did
The folding tips while turning to line up is something elseee
30 years from now we will all be thinking: "I remember that!"
I like when they do those extremely long flight tests with all that special instrumentation packed inside where the seats would be that takes thorough readings of every single section of the plane to see how it all faires duing every flight and handling situation they can throw at it!
I am always a big fan of quad jets especially the A340-600 ,747s and the bae 146-300, but this made me fall in love with twin engines
Now that’s a beautiful bird god bless the 777
there is no such thing as a god
Wow such a nice airplane it’s
Tip of wing can go up and down congrats on another successful first flight
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw her on approach from my place in Gresham but by the time I could get myself out the door and over to the airport she was already gone back to Moses Lake. I was kicking myself for missing it.
Thank you for posting!
No problem mate! Lucky you got to see it at all. I know a guy living in Vancouver who had to hear it fly over him 3 times but he couldn't see because it was cloudy.
Oh, that's torture! Im looking forward to hearing the 9X's in person someday, but this will do for now. Excellent footage. Thanks again for sharing this!
I work at the Spokane airport and loved getting to drive by this plane everyday. I was unsure whether they would let me anywhere near it so I keeped some space but those engines are huge! Can't wait to fly on it.
1:20 this scene is my fav bird and plane both taking off
I will totally fly this plane. Once the air travel industry opens up, Boeing is going to make a comeback. I know it.
Is it? currently it still has a lot of problems with their Dreamliners and the 737 MAX
@@Sedna063 They're coming back slowly
His majesty
The size of those ENGINES!Really the GE-9X is a massive engine!
Indeed!
I really love those big engines
Same!
Look at those retractable raked wingtips! ❤
Love the little emblems of the launch customers Boeing put on their test planes.
So graceful. It surely will make passengers on it have great fun.
I saw this on radar and wondered what it was doing. Great catch!
Thanks! It took me by surprise, I had to rush out for it.
That little black bird flying was like, “Mom, wait up…!” 😅
hoping to pilot this plane in the future 😊
Jesus that thing is huge.
..wow only a few days ago. Almost thought about going to he airport late last week. to do some plane watching. That would have been a treat to see.
Love the sound of those big GE's spooling up.
Nice catch.
Thanks! Yeah, funny how a day before I saw this, I said we probably wouldn't have to wait long to see it here. That sure did age well.
Beautiful bird to watch.
Great video. ☺️
Edit: I just subscribed to ur UA-cam channel.
Nothing beats the sound of the GE90's tho. I prefer those instead of the GE9X but still a nice plane tho.
Fantastic footage and awesome sound!
Thanks!
Wonderful video of the new B777X, my friend! She looks so good!!!!
Thank you, for sure! I consider myself lucky to see it!
Good video my friend, Thanks for sharing!
Such a smooth landing
Random thing. WOW that landing is smooooth. Those test pilots are good at landing.
I LOVE the 777! However I am an original 727 fan. I used to plane spot with my dad in the back of his 1953 Chevy ½ Ton pickup at the old plane spot lot on Marine Drive.
I used to watch 727s, MD80s, L-1011s, and even when the Concorde visited back in the 90s.
The North runway is the best!
Love the north runway too! Didn't know the Concorde visited PDX, but I'm not surprised either. I wish I could have seen the Concorde, but it was retired only a few days before I was even born.
@@PortlandAviation wouldn't you know it someone posted the visit on UA-cam:

Bro I didn't know they came to portland back in 2020, but I got to see two of them parked at boeing field.
Excellent landing bt the 7779X program pilots.
Boeing’s wing flex is so much more iconic than Airbus.
Beautiful video! Was such a great treat to catch this in Portland.
Thanks! Hope it visits again.
Is it common for Boeing and airlines to use PDX as an airport to test new planes? Judging by your videos, was surprised to see so much testing of new aircraft.
Brilliant catch, also I love your pfp, Icelandair! My fav :)
Thanks!

Incredibly footage! Fantastic

Nice GE9X ! Seeing them in Commercial Operationz
The chosen color scheme for the test-planes makes them look rather smaller than they are. That thing is gigantic...so much so that the XWB is compared to the 787, which is in a much smaller category, than to it proper (future) competitor. I can only hope the 9x will succeed in its economical potentials
that landing was phenomenal.
What a beautiful plane! Thank you for sharing!
Great catch! Hopefully THIS ONE will be everywhere in the future.
Thanks! Yeah, let's hope they made some better engineering choices this time...
@@PortlandAviation Hopefully so, though some ex boeing people are already saying to brace for another max like mess.
@@buybygb Yikes.
Hey this is at PDX, I live like 60miles away from here!!!!
Yep, nice!
Carson - I live15 miles away in Troutdale. What town are you in?
I live about 4 miles away, to the SSW. I get to hear the Amerijet planes when they use 3/21.
@@HeidiKohne You & I aren't far apart.
what a smooth landing!
good job! very good landing with amazing engine sound!
Such a long plane with amazing huge engines!!.
Flew my first 777 (not the 777x) back in 2000. That was one cool ride.
Yeah, some say it's Boeing's best plane, or the most perfect plane ever made, etc.
@@PortlandAviation Those engines are darn powerful!
Air Canada Should Order These 777-9Xs
Nice job mate,and a real looker.lmpressive❤😎👍!
That bird was like wow it looks better then me let me get a look
that thing is massive
Excellent video
It’s the wings for me❤️❤️😭
I wonder if part of the testing includes taking off with the wing tips still folded up. I'm sure it would still fly, but how much damage(if any) would be done?
I doubt they would try to fly in that configuration.
You see the raw power and speed when empty like this. I presume they have to put some weight in it even on test flights so it performs as it should?
Nice catch :). The 777x looks like a small parachute hanging from its tail.
Thanks! Yeah, it does. I wonder what that object actually does.
Let's hope not all 777X will be 10-abreast seats and the engines quieter
Indeed, 10 abreast on a 777 is very annoying. Just because airlines can do it doesn't mean they should.
They will be 10 seated. That’s for sure. 9 seat on the 777x is just too good to be true.
The good news is they’ll be a little bit wider than current 777 10 abreast
the cabin is designed for 18 inch 10 abreast seats :D
Is it me or is that engine loud 🤔
A total BEHEMOTH. a MONSTER of a plane. !
BEAUTIFUL jet
Really nice catch mate, love those big engines!
Thanks! Yeah, they're beautiful.
@@PortlandAviation You welcome!
The 777X is the best aircraft
Buttery landing!
El sonido en el despegue es unico en esta hermosura
If the wingtips were to break off during flight, would the plane still be able to fly?
It probably would. An F15 has landed with an entire wing missing before. Of course, a fighter jet is very different from a widebody airliner, but yeah, if the wingtips broke off, I expect it would still be able to fly.
Yes it would but depending on what you mean by “break off”, if it harmlessly fell off then there’d be no issue for the flight itself but long term it would drastically affect its efficiency, if it was to spontaneously de assemble then it may cause issues through debris. There are no doubt many health and safety considerations regarding the folding wingtips that has certified it safe to use
the king of the sky !!
Sounds like a Tie Fighter
Can I use this video for a tiktok?
As long as you give proper credit
In few time it Will be in service
What is the cable hanging a little black thing on top of the 777X' tail for?
