I can't tell you how much I really appreciate you taking the time to explain what you are doing. Every video that I watched they all just made the stuff and we had to figure out what they were doing. I'm disabled and someone just recently came up to me and asked me if I could start making Ash trees, but I have never done anything of such a project. I want to learn everything
This has got to be my next project. Ive seen a couple cigar ashtray builds on youtube now, and I like yours the best. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and techniques.
I made one using your design; just out of 2x12s but it works. Final dimensions 8x8x2.5. Finished it with cutting board oil with wax and then hand rubbed bees wax. Thanks
Yes, actually that would be a good idea. Now that I make all of my cigar ashtrays with my CNC, using a bowel bit is exactly how I make them now. Next time I make one this way I’ll use the bowl bit for sure. Thanks for the question!
Thank you for the kind words! If I recall correctly The speed was below 1000 revolutions per minute. The bigger the bit the slower the revolutions. As I mentioned in the video take your time during that process don’t press too hard on the drill. Press, let the bit do the work. Good luck. Hope it turns out well!
I too make bowls and cigar ashtrays not to your degree of craftsmanship. I'm curious how or what method you used to remove/sand out the center point dimple that is created using a forstner bit?

Im not big on fishing, i love catching and hate waiting! 4 cigars in that ashtray just from my observation could leave one confused to the point of conversation, from masterful ways to set baiting and wind up hooked in one that shares a distant relation through a collaboration of nations where the objective operation is of world domination! Just a crazy creation of my wild ass imagination! Pay it no mind cause when mine gets down to start racing its just a given fact the pole position im taking! Lmfao
@Eastwing Vintage Woodworking I bought my saw at the back of my home depot for 275, got the light for 50 bucks. Now it's just like the dws780 lol but I didn't spend 650
@creep life Hell yeah, I did the same thing to my Dewalt and it was the best upgrade I could've done. That shadow line is great. Very easy to install too.

Hi. What was the finish you used? Thanks!
Great video. Could you have used a bowl bit instead of the forstner bit to make the cigar channels?
Yes, actually that would be a good idea. Now that I make all of my cigar ashtrays with my CNC, using a bowel bit is exactly how I make them now. Next time I make one this way I’ll use the bowl bit for sure. Thanks for the question!
I wish I could make that over here in the Netherlands😍
Great video! Going to definately try this for a gift.
Do you mind, what speed did you use on the drill press when hogging out the material?
Thank you for the kind words! If I recall correctly The speed was below 1000 revolutions per minute. The bigger the bit the slower the revolutions. As I mentioned in the video take your time during that process don’t press too hard on the drill. Press, let the bit do the work. Good luck. Hope it turns out well!

I use the bowl bit in my router to go deep enough to remove those dimples created by the Forster bit.
how much would it cost to get one just like that one
