Where do you buy your walnut wood?
When I lived in Southern California I purchased all my walnut at Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana. Now I’m in Texas I purchase all my lumber/hardwoods at Clark’s in the Heights area in Houston.
what a great build...thx u...
Thank you!!!
Very nice build! Wondering if you could have turned off the music and demonstrated the noise levels with the spindle running and the enclosure open compared to when closed to understand its effectiveness. Other than this, it's very nice and clean!
Thanks for the comment…I’ll try to demonstrate that in a future video. What I can tell you is the noise difference between the enclosure open vs closed is a significant difference. I’m also planning on upgrading from the router to a VFD spindle. That will also make a difference in overall noise.
So beautiful I’d hate to use it!😂
Hi. What was the finish you used? Thanks!
Tongue oil.
Certainly the most annoying background music on UA-cam
NiceJob. Very Impressive.
nice job! i am thinking the same thing, and here you have done it already! thx for posting.
Do you happen to have dimensions for this for sale? Just curious as I just got this bench and like your modification the best.
Thanks for your inquiry. All of the dimensions are highlighted in the video.
Great video. Could you have used a bowl bit instead of the forstner bit to make the cigar channels?
Yes, actually that would be a good idea. Now that I make all of my cigar ashtrays with my CNC, using a bowel bit is exactly how I make them now. Next time I make one this way I’ll use the bowl bit for sure. Thanks for the question!
instead of using masking or painters tape during glue up for ur clamps, you can use the clear plastic packing tape. works wonders, no need for scraping afterwards.
Thanks, I’ll have to try that.
Fishing, that's what I'm talking about. A job well done sir
This is such a beautiful ashtray
I can't tell you how much I really appreciate you taking the time to explain what you are doing. Every video that I watched they all just made the stuff and we had to figure out what they were doing. I'm disabled and someone just recently came up to me and asked me if I could start making Ash trees, but I have never done anything of such a project. I want to learn everything
Thank you for the kind words! Good luck on your woodworking journey! I will have more videos posted soon.
Great work! , just what I'm wanting for my garage shop. i also have followed jonny builds , love the part where the 11 little girl paraphrases! (I'm assuming your daughter) I felt like I was reading Winnie the pooh story! great idea with the recessed tape measure!!! obligatory use of the cnc machine, to machine a paper towel holder!🤣(ua-cam.com/video/KjB6r-HDDI0/v-deo.html)
@@mikedtubey thank you for the comment and kind words! Make it a great day!
In case of shipwreck your ashtray will float...
Thank you nice job
How deep did you make the dado for the slides? Trying to see how close I can get the sides without compromising the area that gets the dado.
Thanks for the question. All you need to factor in is the thickness of the drawer slides. Since the enclosure sides dados match up with one another. I took the thickness of a draw slide divided it by two and used that measurement as the depth of each dado. If my drawer slide measured out to be 3/8 of an inch thick. I would divide 3/8 by 2, and cut the dado to .187 inches deep. Hope this helps. Good luck with your build.
@@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 Thank you! I'm designing it in Fusion right now and just making sure I know what I'm doing 😆
Thank you so much for showing us how you designed the cigar ashtray! I have to say I was truly impressed when you had your OCD moment-my jaw dropped at how beautifully organized everything is! 😱 Please never apologize for that; it is a craftsman's dream to be organized the way you are! 🙂
Thank you for the kind words!
OUTSTANDING!!!!
This has got to be my next project. Ive seen a couple cigar ashtray builds on youtube now, and I like yours the best. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and techniques.
Thank you for the comment and kind words. Good luck with your project!
That’s a really nice setup. I need one for home and one for work. I’ve been building ambulances for 23 years and a setup like this solves half my problem
Thanks for the kind words. I’ve been living with this set up for almost a year now and it works great, it turned out to be very durable.
@@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 thank you for the idea . Any advice to someone wanting to emulate your setup?
18:03 DYI'er, Gave me a chuckle. Thanks for the video, I've been ĺooking at grabbing one of these tables for awhile now but all that wasted space underneath was bothering me. I was considering sound something similar but with a twist. It had left my seive of a brain awhile back and your video reminded me of it.
Sir Thank you for this video. I have a the chance of getting three base three husky boxes lowers only. Do think this would work the same way? Installing them under the work bench? I have three
Thank you. Not sure if that would work? Definitely worth a try though.
What syringes do you use? It looks like the tips are the ones that come with Starbond CA glue.
10cc size…I order them from Amazon. Yes the tips are from the Starbond CA glue.
@@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 thank you! I tried the tips on some syringes I had already and they didn’t fit so I’m going to search for other options.
Just found your channel and I am LOVING it!! You had me sold when you mentioned IDC Woodcrafts. I’ve consumed my fair share of M&Ms from the number of purchases. The Hog is a game-changer and Garrett is a big supporter of the Women Who CNC FB group, of which I am a proud member.
Thank you for the comment and the kind words. It’s been a minute since I’ve posted any new content…be on the lookout because I have some good stuff coming soon! Yes…Garrett is a solid dude! Go IDC!
It would be nice if you posted a link for your template.
Nice. As for lights, I got a set of under counter LED's for kitchen use. I put a few under the gantry and it lights up the whole bed. They are extremely bright.
What size is your table top?
55.5” deep x 53” wide.
Great work. I enjoy watching your videos. Can share where you get the syrenges with the fine tips for filling in the letters with the epoxy?
Thanks for the question. I buy the syringes off of Amazon. They are 10 cc capacity. As for the fine tips. I order and use Starbond brand CA glue the package comes with these extra fine plastic tips. I attach those to the end of the syringes. They work great!
Thank you for the reply. I already have the Starbond tips you mentioned so I will order some of the syringes. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Husky "worktop".
Beautiful work. Appreciate all the details you shared. Any rough idea how many minutes on the CNC it took?
Thanks for the kind words and the question. Roughly 36 minutes.
Soooooooo smoking hot.... "sensi"
do those construction screws really work for attaching that much plywood to the metal base?
Absolutely! Almost a year now of continuous use and still rock solid! I’m really happy that I did this build and probably would not make any changes if I had to build another one.
Great video very informative. What no dog holes just kidding I like the plane top
I’m moving up to painting CNC projects and have seen a few different types of painting out there. What’s the benefit/function of using epoxy over spray or brush-on paints?
Thanks for the question. It depends on the type of project and application. If I’m making a sign, paint would make more sense than epoxy. Less costly and faster project completion time. If I’m making a cutting board I would recommend epoxy for its durability and safe around food. Hope this helps. Happy to answer any additional questions. Take care!
@@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 that helps immensely. Thanks for the reply!
Beautiful pieces 💜
I need one of those dewalt screwdrivers!😂
Killer build! Maybe I should do this instead of buying the one with drawers!
Wouldn't the advanced V Carve help out in the places that the other bit wouldn't get?
Not necessarily…in this application I needed a straight walled interior pocket to better accommodate the epoxy and keep the font in the lettering sharp.
@@eastwingvintagewoodworking4797 I understand. I'm still learning with my shapeoko. Keep the content coming. I enjoy your videos
@@HookedupHardover Thank you for the kind words! That’s whats cool about CNC. Always learning! If you see something wrong in any of my videos…please call me out! I’m figuring this stuff out as I go along… Lol. Take care.
I love this build. I use my table for my sewing machines, so I need room for my feet under it, but the shelf will definitely work. You are a genius. I am going to share your video on my sewing group. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words! Make it a great day!
I enjoy this video. Am new to this video and Would love to be picked out for your giveaway thanks. Jennie
Hi, I love your office, I'm going to get inspired to make mine.... a question please? Is there a problem when you machine something and then put casters on it? for example vibration? precision .......?
No vibration issues… Just make sure that if you use casters they are the lockable kind. Thanks again for your question and good luck!
My garage floor is not level (by design to drain towards the door). I added levelling feet and retractable casters, best of both worlds.
Love the video. I ended up starting to do a similar build but have a question. Did you put any support under the bottom plywood between the metal support cross beam? When I started loading weight onto the bottom plywood, it’s bending a good bit
Great question… I actually did add supports at first, because I was experiencing the same thing. However, when I started framing out the actual box which included the top part of the cabinet, that provided all the support and tension needed to keep the bottom from sagging.
Is there a cut list available?
… Thanks for your question. Actually, no there isn’t. But you’re not the first person to ask this question. I’ll try to put one together and post it to this video. Thanks again for your support.
Love the table and I am going to build the same one!
I have done my own modification of one of the 52” version adding a undermount shelf to the rear of the table top behind the two drawers mine came equipped with. Mine was purchased to hold two diode lasers weighing around 50 lbs each. The thing none of these modifications mention is that the weight limit on these Husky tables is 300lbs. The manufacturer is probably being conservative but it’s still a factor worth keeping in mind. It would also be nice to know what would be most likely to fail under excess load. You could beef up casters but if it’s the crank mechanism that’s a different matter.
The weight capacity limit and addressing that is what I came looking for information on before making the commitment to purchasing one. The crank mechanism is my concern.
Awesome video. What is that purple surface you put the tray on
Thanks for your question… The purple surface you’re asking about is 120 grit sandpaper, glued to a piece of plywood. I also have the underside of that piece of plywood covered in sandpaper too. I use that as a way to keep the material from moving around while I’m standing it either by hand or with an electric/orbital sander.
Great video! Going to definately try this for a gift. Do you mind, what speed did you use on the drill press when hogging out the material?
Thank you for the kind words! If I recall correctly The speed was below 1000 revolutions per minute. The bigger the bit the slower the revolutions. As I mentioned in the video take your time during that process don’t press too hard on the drill. Press, let the bit do the work. Good luck. Hope it turns out well!
great idea on adding cabinets. I've look at a lot of shop cabinets and tables etc. I like your all-in-one the best and will replicate it in my own garage. Great Work!!
Thank you for the kind words! Good luck with your build.
