3rd yr med student here and seriously considering Internal Med 💗 and yes, the the attraction to its complexity resonates with me. I'm also thinking a lot about Surgery, on the other hand. I enjoy learning both at an almost equal level. Perhaps next year's clerkship will give me more clarity as to what specialty to go into. Thanks so much for this video! Glad to know that a lot of people actually share the same sentiments I have regarding the field of Internal Medicine. Gives so much hope and encouragement to people like me who are at a cross-roads in life right now. 💞
I love the art of the admission block. Tracking ER patients and being ready with a rebuttal as to why a patient does not need admission to the hospital is one of my favorite things that keeps the job exciting after 10 yrs. Tactful debating with ER providers sparks introspection and may bring some heat initially but the ER providers will think twice about a lackluster workup before they call you for a future admission.
Hey! I have been watching your videos for a while now. I really love your content and find your advice very helpful. I really want your channel grow and reach many people. Lots of love!
I would like to choose IM but I recently took step 1 and I'm pretty sure I failed. I've not seen my result but honestly I'm not hopeful of a positive outcome. please is it still possible to match into IM with a failed attempt?
I'm 5th yr med student. Struggling with what to choose. I like internal medicine and pharmacology. Which side do you suggest for me?. I want to time spend with my family also...😀😀
Are there many options for specialising or sub-specialising into neurology on top on internal medicine? Also is it possible to do both internal medicine and surgery at least to some extent?
I am a general medicine PG and it is so confusing esp. in my hospital where we deal patients of neuro, pulmo, cardio , rheuma , nephro , gastro, even suspeected covid19 pts. due to unavailability of the mentioned wards . All patients come to the general medical ward and its a f******* mess ! drives a doctor insaane !
In US are cases admitted under our name in hospital after we complete IM residency? Or cases admitted only under the name of fellowship completed doctor? Do we get nyt calls though we are not in night shift after IM residency in US??
Essentially when you're an attending - so after residency. But if you do fellowship then it would go under your attending. Night call depends on the job you sign up for. For example, I don't have any but some have some or all nights in their schedules
Thank you for sharing this. I'm a 3rd yr med student and I was wondering if you go into outpatient as an internist would you still be able to do let's say 1 or 2 days a week of inpatient? I really like the outpatient setting but I would still like to do inpatient as I would like to retain the skills and ability to manage inpatients and more critical cases.
Dear! I have been preparing myself for continuing to university studies. But, I'm embarrassing with the degree option. There is two options, one is bachelor and the other one is general medicine residency. I want to be a medical doctor as well as the best I can be. But, I don't know which one should I choose! PLEASE HELP ME
Hi, when to choose for a fellowship, do we have to write an exam or what is the procedure. Also as you mentioned in the video, after 3 years of internal medicine residency, if we want to do a fellowship, do we have to do right after residency or can we work for an year & then join a fellowship.
@@TheMDJourney Thank you for replying back. Can you help me understand what are essays? Is it like research. Actually I'm an IMG & there's no information on fellowship, can you make a video on fellowship, the process and all, if possible. THANKS IN ADVANCE 😊
@@TheMDJourney just this had an issue w this one not the others....thanks for quick reply....by the way do you have an email....i just want to have a quick question personally
Hello doc how can i contact you, my husband got his results just now, and then the physicians told him to watch video og internal and telemedicine, which is i cant understand what its all about, this is our very first time to watch your channel because his physicians told him he cant give him a recets because he need to watch and contact telemedicine and internal medicine pls notify me about it all.
Unrelated but figured I'd ask on your newest video. What do you think would be better to learn the summer before school - micro with Sketchy/pepper or do anatomy Anki for gross? I want to utilize my free time productively with some light pass over of information. Thanks!
I can surely make a video on this. I'll say this first - nothing you do in the summer will really make you more prepared. Seems untrue but you tend to study with a different focus during actual school vs. light passes. Enjoy your summer. A good test is to ask yourself at the end of the year if extra review would have helped. Almost guaranteed you'll say you didn't need it. If you do choose one (because it's tempting ) go for anatomy of just the first block (back, arms, chest) you'll be covering. Micro is too heavy to review during your summer. But once again. With what I know now - the summer before med school should be used for hobbies, vacations, chilling, and personal growth. Thanks for your comment!
@@TheMDJourney Thanks man! I know a lot of current students say to not bother "pre-studying" but I do want to have a leg up if I can. If nothing else, if I can prepare anatomy or learn some micro that will help me not need to study so aggressively later than it is worth it. My school starts out with gross anatomy as it's major first class, so maybe I will lean more toward learning that. I just heard that bugs/pharm requires pure memorization that just takes a ton of time to manage

Where’d you end up? I’m curious :)
It’s an intellectual field 💪
Adnan A why are you everywhere 😂😂😅
Nisha Bisht righttt 🤣
righ this guy is in every healthcare related video
I agree with all of these reasons. Definitely the reason I'll be applying to IM next year
Best of luck! Thanks for the comment! :)

Thanks for your kind words and support! One day at a time!
I want to come back and watch this video once I am an internist #dreams #goals
Hope you keep finding it helpful!
I also selected Internal Medicine
Great video! It would be amazing if you make a video on how to present patients, especially for IMG
I want to work in internal medicine so that i can treat all kinds of ailments
Great field for that :)
Wow Doc!♥️🤍
I’m 12 and hopefully I’ll become an internist :)
Me to
After IM you said you can pick cardiology, ICU ecc. but can you pick emergency medicine as well? Thanks from a fellow medical student, great job.
Emergency is its own residency

Not as common to do neuro/IM or IM/surgery
what kind of specialty are you thinking of pursuing within i med?

Wait. Can you please tell me the difference between an internsivist and internal medicine
Internist = internal medicine intensivist = internal medicine doctor that specializes in critical care (ICU)
In US are cases admitted under our name in hospital after we complete IM residency? Or cases admitted only under the name of fellowship completed doctor?

@@TheMDJourney So no night calls after fellowship?? Only attending will have night calls??

Yes you can work and choose to apply later. Its another application process (essays, resume, interviews) but no extra exam

Can we get good pay if we work in outpatient setting without inpatient setting??
Good job
great bro
Neurosurgery is only 1-2 years longer to get to the attending level than internal medicine....
3 years for IM residency vs. 7 years for neurosurgery residency. So 4 years at least
How long to become a internist
4 years of med school + 3 years of internal medicine residency
Any idea on the Payscale for IM And Family medicine, Pediatrics comparison. Thanks is advance
