The Hot Licks video "Latin and Advanced Jazz". Emily explains that she figured this all out on her own after finishing at Berklee. I found this video at the local library in Blacksburg VA after having come back from a 3 week Jazz Camp at Manhatton School of Music in 1992. While staying in New York I discovered this bar named "Auggies" a few blocks South on Broadway, which was a veritable "Mintons". There was a young grad was playing every night with pick up bands. His name was Peter Kraus I believe, and he played for $45 a night and they would pass the hat. There was no cover to get in, but get this, all the guys that were playing around like Kenny Drew Jr., Joshua Redman, and some cats that I didn't even know existed would come in after finishing up their paying gigs and play with Peter and his Trio. I took 3 lessons from Pete at $40 bucks a pop and he taught me just about everything that he had learned from Rodney Jones while studying at MSM. The point is, that I learned more from one Video and one guy playing in a bar than I ever learned from any of the teachers I studied with in 6+ years at College.?! Why did I even bother going to University?
Thanks for the performance and the link to your sheet music. It will take me a week or so to master this tune. I have always wanted to learn this tune by emily but don't have the capacity to transpose it by myself. Love you performance and your generosity. thanks
Emily Remler was really good! I never heard of her until a few years ago and I saw a video that looked recent. I thought she would have a great career. Sorry to learn she died twenty years ago.
Miles Davis, Coltrane, and many other top-tier musicians tasted H. There's something about that drug that affects your perception of music. It's so sad when people OD... but while they were here, man did they share their soul with the world and take things to a whole different level. Taking H as a musical genius must be some sort of cheat code but you're gambling with your life. Not worth it IMO. I can only relate with what LSD did for me musically and it definitely can be considered cheating. It allows you to perceive vibration and frequency among other things at a whole different level.
I saw her at a show and she could not play much. She was a mess, really nervous. It is always difficult to survive as a jazz musician. Struggle + drugs = disaster. What a waste. RIP Emily.
She was so talented! Thank you for this transcription. Flawless playing too!
Awesome. Thank you. More Emily please.

so you could join a bunch of frat bros and invite hot young women to your private parties (and vise versa), if you were lucky
@@LfunkeyA also to get most people in debt for decades to force them into the rat race system.

So good - thank you! 🙏
Yes!
Don't do drugs. Don't even start. You don't need them to play jazz. Emily was taken too soon.
Sad and true. She was soo good. And by all accounts a sweet person. Play jazz stay clean.
@@wittvonwitt4403just ask Joe Pass and the Polish drummer.
Don't do drugs kids.

Heart breaking. I know a number who have died. I came very close. The sensuality of jazz and drugs together is a monster.
B♭
Never heard before about her, shocked... And sorry...
Copy of Wes Montgomery" D -natural Blues". Wat's new ??
There's nothing new in jazz chief. That's the point.
They are called standards for a reason.
She should have been a nice Jewish accountant.
A take off of Wes montgomery's D natural blues
