The bamboo thing you wanted to know what it was is a vegetable steamer. You can use soap on cast iron as long as you season it well after you use the soap. Any thrifted cast iron I've bought I have scrubbed with soap and water and then seasoned it and have used it for decades.
If cleaning the cast iron with soap happens to either not work or you don't want to use soap, you can soak cast iron in a solution of one part white vinegar & one part water. Let soak for 30 to 60 minutes, then scrub rust off with a bristle brush. Let dry thoroughly, then re-season cast iron piece. ***I have not tried this myself; I Googled this information. Hope it helps!
Julie this is Grandma from Texas. I have been following you probably since you started your channel. I hadn’t seen a video from you in a while and when I realized it I went to your channel and I was not subscribed. I subscribed to your channel from the first time. I have but subscribe again. Just thought you may want to kbow. Thank you for all your videos. You are just precious and I truly appreciate all you do to bring content to us.
My moma always washed her cast iron and so do I and after we rinse them we put them on a hot burner to dry and never got any rust or anything ,rust can be cleaned out of cast iron also by using cooking oil and rubbing it in good and let sit and then wash it out and if you need to reapply that’s ok but we always wash our cash iron I’m 69 and my little moma is in heaven but she sure taught me her old tricks .
And I forgot we had a house to burn and my cast iron was in it of course but I found them in ashes and I cleaned them up and was able to use them again and those skillets are over 50 years old
I always notice those S&P shakers by your Keurig machine & they’re empty. A cool idea is to use 1 for cinnamon & 1 for cocoa powder. Put a cute lil label & they’re ready to go! ❤
Hello Julie. I have a similar Brass Vase that I bought at an Indian store. I agree is Gorgeous. The Hydrangea picture is pretty. My back yard Hydrangea in Purple and Pink are coming out. The Flour Utensil Container if I find one like that, I will buy it. for me. Adorable buys. "Butter My Buns and Call Me A Biscuit." I love It! I love your videos on UA-cam. I always give it a like so others can see them. Blessings.🥰🌺
Thank you for being so kind to us and our sweet little pup out thrifting, the family are enjoying seeing her debut on UA-cam, she thinks she’s a movie star now 🤩
Amazon has a great bag of cleaning tools for cast iron. Well worth the price, lots of great you tube videos on cleaning cast iron.I have the corn pan, cleaned it up, put Crisco on it, popped in the oven. Looks terrific ❤
Some great finds. Love how you styled everything. Please let people know though (as some may not be aware) that vintage pewter that can't be dated and verified lead free - can be poisonous and should not have food placed in it. thanks for taking us along on another fun hrifting trip.
I'm picky on coffee cups too but I bought some pioneer women coffee cups and I love them they have flowers and farm animals on them I got the matching dessert plates too.
Hey Julie, that painting of the woman holding the balance, that you said you were drawn to, is a black and white of Johannes Vermeers,it is worth money and hugely collectible. He was a famous Renaissance painter. The frame looks European as well. Not that it is an original but it is valuable. He is one of my favorite artists!! If you didn’t grab it, you might want to.
I just commented the same! Definitely a reproduction, but I love Vermeer too. Although I was not familiar with this particular painting... I knew it looked like a Vermeer. I remember looking at his paintings at the Met and being mesmerized by the vibrant colors and realism.
I have several versions of the Girl with the Pearl Earring, because in my younger days, I looked like her! The title of your print is WOMAN HOLDING A BALANCE.
Julie, I love small creamers also, and have several different ones. A coffee cup has to have that certain fill in my hand. I collect cookbooks also. And style them in my kitchen. I just love books. And the older the better. Have a great weekend, God bless you and your family.
Julie the flour canister could be chalk painted and used as a planter! Use a stiff wire scrubber and some soapy water to clean the cast iron piece. You can also soak it in vinegar but that takes a long time. After scrubbing it you’ll need to season it well. There are plenty of videos to show you how.
Julie, you found some awesome pieces! Love the cookbook. I collect vintage ones. I love looking through them. The restaurant ware mug is really nice. It’s a shame you couldn’t find more. I only find one at a time too. Nice place to shop.
I was so afraid you were going to leave your coffee cup and gravy boat because you sat them down to look at something else! I wanted to tell, “Julie, don’t forget your coffee cup and gravy boat!!! 😜 Was SO relieved to see them in your haul. Loved your haul. BLESSINGS!!!
I had one of those cornbread cast iron pan, but Marvin's tow truck drivet and his wife stole half of my 26 ft uhaul truck before they took it to the yard in springhill ks, i went to the tow yard the next morning after the wreck and half of a full packed truck was gone
Good evening! I just came across your channel and I’m enjoying your videos! I am a fellow content creator and I enjoying sharing decorating, thrifting and cleaning motivation on my channel! I’m looking forward to your future videos! ❤️
Hi Julie, I love watching your channel and I have the hour glass also. It belonged to my precious Mother and I love it. She also had the white bowl you showed us, not sure what happened to it but I have been looking for that pattern in bowl and platters. Thank you for sharing with us all!
Loved your haul and the way you styled your purchases. I, for one, will never pass up a piece of restaurant ware or a little white pitcher no matter how many I already have. You gave me new ideas for my collection of little white pitchers so, thanks so much! Today's was another fun video.
Hi Julie. I really liked the hydrangea painting and the tall candle stand at 18:22. I think the sill over the sink looks amazing with everything. Have a good week and pet Piper for me!
The cornbread pan made me think about a video I recently watched. The young lady thought it was a tray to hold corn on the cob. 😂 With age comes knowledge. 😉 (It didn't appear to be cast iron.) She decided to us it for a spoon rest.
That’s a deal on that cast iron ! Yes it it will clean up nice use dish soap I put mine on stove with low heat after to dry then season with oil! I liked the frame it was in but also like the one used😊
bamboo vege steamer/rice cooker but looks cute displayed as a farmhouse piece. I took the lid off mine, stained it and use it as a riser /tray - if it says "made in China" is not vintage ironstone but could just say "China" and yes would be. If it says "microwave, oven safe" not vintage either.
I caught you on another live!! WHOO HOO!! I absolutely love your videos and the way you put things together ❤. The round, woven piece, with a lid, you asked about is a Japanese steamer. I was hoping that you would have purchased the cedar lined wooden box you picked up. It had a small round brass button looking thing on the top of the bottom where it opens. These are old and were given out to HS graduate’s and by churches to confirmation classes. It was a keepsake treasure box and had a small key that locked it where the small brass hole is, on the box. My 96 yr old father had one as well as my deceased Mother. I’m so excited that I saw you in a live video!! I think this makes #5 for me 💕🙏🙏
*Yes, Julie, the bamboo piece you weren't sure about is a Chinese rice, vegetable and dumpling steamer. It can also be used to make buns like red bean buns, breads and even cakes! It goes on top of your wok filled with boiling water 💧 on top of the stove.* *This was a FUN HAUL....and I really enjoyed seeing your pewter (Yes, it's pewter! 😉) gravy boat styled with a variety of items inside of it. My favorite was when you filled it with butter pats❣️ That's something I wouldn't have thought of myself. 😊 I can also visualize it filled with different colored glass hobnail pattern salt dips - like a combination of aqua, uranium green and purple 💜 😄 salt dips - the jewel tones. 🥰💜👌 THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING ME TONIGHT, Julie❣️😉 You are a good and sweet friend, and I wish you and your whole family an extremely BLESSED weekend❣️🙏😘 ✝️*
Wash your cast iron with hot soapy water. Rinse and dry with paper towels. Then take bacon grease and run in the dish. The Farm Journal canning book is awesome
Hi Julie… great haul .. I just watched with my daughter to introduce her to your channel !! We loved the creative styling for the gravy boat as well as everything you have styled. We will look back at others.. thanks for such joy and inspiration… Marilyn D

Wow! Oh Julie, your (to me) plain little pewter gravy boat is so beautiful in so many ways. This goes for your other treasures as well. You are such a clever lady. Blessings from Australia.
Old farm Journal cookbooks are great. I also like the vintage BH & G cookbooks. The flour canister could be used as a crock for fermentation of veggies. Gravy boats make great salad dressing servers - so much more attractive than the bottles they come in.
Julie Ive had cast iron for years and i use sos type of pads Not sure if good or bad but works for me everytime. I also saw good UA-cam videos on ideas. If memory serves me it was vinegar but again ck out. I have one of those corn cake bakers. So so cute!!!!

That store seems pricey always fun to watch ❤
Love shopping with you. Like I have said before, you are living my dream life. Keep taking me on your thrifting ventures.
Thank you 😊
The picture of a woman with her head cover, lighting candles was a shabbat candle lighting.

I love Cook Books, one of my weaknesses. I cannot even tell you how many I have.
And yes, I do use most of them! 😂😂
I loved the cast iron, and yes, I definitely would have gotten it
I think the frame would look nice painted black.
I'm picky on coffee cups too but I bought some pioneer women coffee cups and I love them they have flowers and farm animals on them I got the matching dessert plates too.
Oh I used to have some of her pedestal coffee mugs and love them. Unfortunately mine all broke we are hard on coffee mugs around here lol
@@ThrilledThrifter I hear ya girl it's wonder mine haven't broke lol 😂
My favorite was the eggs in the gravy boat

The movie The Girl with the pearl earring is about the Dutch painter. I love the movie.
I have several versions of the Girl with the Pearl Earring, because in my younger days, I looked like her! The title of your print is WOMAN HOLDING A BALANCE.
You know you’re a thrifter when you will get on the floor and dig !!!❤️😇

When r we gonna see ur family again? Enjoy all the old videos shopping with them ❤
They are all so busy with work and kiddos it’s just hard to get us all out to a thrift store. Elizabeth was in last weeks video.
The pewter gravy boat would also look cute holding small guest soaps in a bathroom or with sponges in it by the sink. 👍😊
Thank you 😊 They have people walking around and making you a pile up front too so that’s helpful.
The wood thing with the ribbon spools on it is a thread rack for cone thread - like what is used for a serger. ... Great thrifting!
Vermeer painted 'the girl with the pearl earring '. Good eye, Julie.
Thank you 😊 I love it!

Did you post on Tuesday? If you did I missed it. I was worried. So glad to see you smiling face. Great trip as always!
I did not. We’ve been out of town a lot lately. Summers are crazy with traveling for us.
Hi Julie oh what amazing things you found love them 🌻🐓🌻
Thank you 😊
The little cedar chest or box probably was from the 60's. My sister got one from a furniture store for her graduation in 1969. She kept it for years and gave it to me. She had forgotten about it, that I had it. I gave it back to her a couple of weeks ago. She was so excited to have it back and to reminisce.
I got one like it in 79 when I graduated high school.
Are the rest of the cups on the rack above the one you found?
I didn’t notice. Bummer if it was.
