You should be quoted on this --- "They have created such a huge empire where the sun literally never sets. There's a person somewhere in the globe awake listening to BTS."
Idol is usually only considered "pretty faces" In the industry. Even BTS who has heavy messages inside their music and with their storyline in their mvs were criticized as if they were overstepping. Bang PD (hybe chairman) actually commented that some people just wanted pretty faces, dancing prettily, singing pretty songs. It was really hard for idols to break free from the idol image (if they want to be actors or branch out) where they have to be flawless and spotless and just... Pretty.
I would like to add one more explanation. "Idol" in Korea is a little bit different with the English meaning. It is a word to call all boy/girl bands in Korea, so it is more like a "job." Usually there is a producer that makes their songs, and the boy/girl band will be trained to sing, dance and handle interviews etc. Even if one is not famous, if the person has gone through this process, s/he will say her/his job is an idol. This is why musicians look down and don't think they do actual music. However, the idol industry in Korea is evolving, so more and more idols are also trained to produce and compose. The idols might be looked down by other musicians, but for other people, many admire them, as we commonly agree that it takes a lot of work and effort to get trained, usually 3-4 years or even more. 3-4 years of your teen life is a big thing! I hope this helped you understand the Korean culture a little bit more. :)
8:26 It's saying "I'm not the same as I was yesterday" & "there are different sides/parts of me" but I embrace all of these because after all they're all me
Koreans don't actually look at Idol music as real music. Kpop is a separate genre within Korean music, the overall Korean public actually prefer solo artists who do ballads, rnb, and trot as well as indie bands. Kpop is on the same level as Disney music in Korea basically, a Korean fan said if you were to ask any random Korean on the street to name a Kpop group today it will probably be BTS, Blackpink, Brave Girls, Twice and that's it. Kpop is made to appeal to western audiences, hence all the English in the songs, names, having English/Japanese speakers in the group, having foreign members in the group, etc. I'm assuming you live in the U.S, think about all of your close friends, family and acquaintances, how many of them regularly listen to music outside of their native language or follow foreign celebrities?? Well it's the same in Korea. As mentioned before Kpop is made to appeal to the west hence all the rap, hip hop, edm, rock influences, which is why it is HUGE amongst the international audience and someone like yourself who is very new to the genre would have no idea that Kpop isn't actually as popular in Korea as it is overseas.
Hello, I am a Korean living in Korea. I can't say what you said is wrong, but I hope you think not all Koreans ignore idol music. Idol music is one of the genres of kpop in Korea, so idol music is considered that way by the older generation just as the younger generation does not prefer the trot you mentioned. I think the reason why you think idols are being ignored in Korea is because older generations are mainly dominating the media with power. So the younger generation in Korea never ignores idol music. And although idol entertainment has no choice but to run idols considering overseas markets to make money, plz don't say that idol music is only for overseas markets. You know what? It's because of the hard work and love of Korean idol fans that you got to know about Kpop and idols. That's one of the I want you to know. And I hope you don't rely on Internet information when you talk about Korea, but talk to Koreans in person. (especially young generation) But the in-depth criticism of Korea's view of idols was very good. Thank you!
It’s a bit interesting that they don’t listen to music in foreign languages. I live in europe, and here it’s very common to listen to music in english, like VERY common. Also music in other languages as Swedish, Spanish, French and such as well
@@진심-i5y oh yea i totally understand your explaination too! Indeed there are a high number of young korean audience that loves kpop but its just the older generations who prefer trot and all over it ! 😁👍
When they're talking about the 10s of thousands of them inside of themselves, I think that they're talking about how different people see them in a different ways and also how there are different sides of themselves that they show.to people. For example, JK is a singer, dancer, song writer, composer, the main vocalist, the youngest of the group. senior to the members of TXT, a painter, an athlete, etc. He's also someone slightly different to each one of their millions of fans. In addition to all of that, he's still finding new things to learn and experience, and new sides of himself on a regular basis. The other 6 members are the same. Basically, there are thousands of different sides to him, to each of them.
the dance that Jimin does with the fan during his falsetto solo is a reference to buchaechum, a fan dance traditionally done by a troupe of female dancers. the fact that Jimin is the one to do this is a response to haters saying that he's too feminine, has too high of a voice, is too "girly"--like how Shallon Lester mocked him for wearing makeup on a poster and called him a girl. Jimin is singing in his falsetto (a """"""girly""""" voice), dancing with a fan traditionally used by female dancers, and looking into the camera with makeup on--essentially saying, "screw you, I love myself the way I am."
That "10, 100 parts of me" means we as human has many characters. Inside us. Sometimes we can be shy, another day a brave person. Today I'm a motivated person, next week I feel worthless. On some day I can be somewhat harsh to one person, but the next time I express my care towards them. We human has various layers of personalities, that we continue to discover throughout our life. So learn not to hate any part of ourselves even when we find it bad, learn to love ourselves, and improve. 👍
david: *explains what the multiple people inside means* alex: wait but what does the multiple people inside mean? literally nothing against you. i just found it kinda funny. i do the same thing all the time and things just fly over my head
Lol... like the clip when David explained about the shark trying to attack BTS but they were unaffected and just don't care. Next, Alex asked was he not going to explain about the shark (if I heard correctly)😂😂
It´s the first time i thought about it ... realizing that armys are listening or thinking about BTS 24/7 gave me chills. That´s why we see everything :D
Idol music is not really liked by the Korean general public in fact they're actually embarrassed of it (BTS not included, however. They see them as Korea's pride). It's because the idols don't have much influence in their music and is too westernised.
As a Korean who has lived here for 20 years, Korean general public do like idol music lol If u see every korean chart u can see top ten is always filled with idol music It's rather like they tend to not acknowledge most of them as 'real artist' bc gp think they don't produce thier own music (in this case, except bts) which could be a very harmful prejudice
As you were wondering about the hate BTS received, it was in twofolds. First, the hate RM and Suga received was when they left the underground rap/hip hop scene to join and train as Kpop Idols. Thus, they were deemed as betrayal by their peers. Second, David stated that in Korea, Kpop Idols are not considered as true musicians/artists and were looked down upon by their fellow countrymen and music industry.
Idol music is definitely viewed as "low art" in korea. Popular, but without much artistic merit. There have been groups and individuals that have been able to break out of that mold and be taken seriously as an artist(s), but it's few and far between. The only comparison I can think of is how someone would perceive a nick/disney star starting a music career. Like they can be taken seriously, like for instance Ariana Grande, but most aren't.
There are things about the Love Yourself theme of IDOL that you may understand better after reading the lyrics of their song, "Answer: Love Myself," from the same album. It does not have a mv, but there are videos of their concert performances.
Besides this explanation, bts said they wanted this song to be a huge celebration as it is the end of Love Yourself series. So, they're like I love myself, including my culture and nationality.
ooohh you should actually check out J-Hope’s solo music videos! Airplane and Daydream! They’re SO pretty and they use a few of the same locations but in different ways in those mv’s so they are kinda tied together.
On the surface, accepting their 10,100 selves sound to me like it refers to their changing looks, style, posture even, mood etc. Fans often comment that one has been a joker is later sullen. Or another one who is light hearted composes and sings a song about being in the depths of depression. They go from slim to muscled weight lifters, from having stylists give them coordinating looks to choosing a specific design house for their own fashion. They learn so many things, like languages and instruments, that they’re never the performer by their next album. Closest to their theme, they are all working on loving themselves.
I think IDOL is partially connected to the MotS series where they discuss Persona more. When they talk about having multitudes and tens of thousands of themselves I believe they are tallking about different personas. If you are more curious about this aspect, you should watch DKDKTV's videos explaining Persona, Shadow, and Ego.
I have been patiently (Excitedly :D) waiting for your daily BTS uploads. Thank you very much for being real and for understanding BTS despite the cultural differences.
I think the part when they say they have 10s 1000s of them inside means there are different versions of ourselves. There’s the Alex who is happy. There’s the Alex who cries. There’s the Alex that works hard. There’s also the Alex that likes to chill. All of these are different versions of Alex and accepting and welcoming them is essentially loving yourself.
Actually there is another explanation from xceleste. But her explanation about rabbit in the moon is slightly different with David (DKDKTV) explanation. You can check if you want.
I think with the duplicate members I think it’s a clap back at haters who say “there’s too many members” or “they all look the same” Also yoongi wearing a Snow White shirt I believe is a reference to ppl calling him Snow White bc of his pale skin.
every BTS song always have strong meanings...BTS just being BTS they don't care what haters wan saying about them...like RM said just go in the coffee shop and just forgetting no need wasting ur energy to thinking...just simple ...
For the " 10, 100 1000s of me" lyrics, I took it to mean that they are not one dimensional and there is more to them as people and artists. Instead of being typecast into one specific role, they are constantly changing and growing.
Appart from the Korean traditional dance- dance moves, they incorporated gwara gwara dance moves in the choreography (African dance)... And the colorful suits with ankara prints.
next it'll be really cool if you checked “home” performance on jimmy fallon, they filmed it in korea with their own sets so it looks more like a music video with live singing.. i think you'll like it
"10,000 persons inside me" refer to different persona everyone exhibits - one is be a son/daughter, a colleague, a friend, a neighbor, a brother/sister, mother/father, boss, subordinate, someone's enemy, etc - all in one, and in each persona we exhibit different aspects of ourselves, both consciously and subconsciously. But in BTS, this is multiplied a hundred times more. Take RM for example - he is RM, an idol and the leader of BTS, while at the same time he is also Rap Monster the kick ass rapper, Kim Nam Joon a regular korean guy, an influencer, an inspiration, etc so they carry a heavy burden. But they are saying they have learned to live with it and love themselves with all of their different persona, warts, and all
The shark seems to reference an art installation where a shark is contained in a small tank. A being of so much power but now caged to be observed by others. The stage BTS is standing on mimics a cage, as to say they are now the shark inside, being observed by other sharks who are eager to devour them. This could be the entertainment industry, the media or just ill wishing onlookers. However, BTS maintains their autonomy in embracing & celebrating themselves despite all the prying eyes. The installation had a preserved shark but it’s cage is very reminiscent of BTS’s stage. See - “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living” by Damien Hirst. It’s also notable that this installation became a symbol for British art around the world… much like BTS becoming synonymous with what people first think of when they hear of KPop or Korean music/art now. I think the Bookish Theory explanation shows the shark installation that they appear to reference. Their video also delves into some of the other art & patterns displayed throughout the MV. The drum instrumental & beat is African, so the patterns of their clothes along with several visuals also hark back to African art. I don’t recall if there was a specific country the beats were inspired by but the Gwara Gwara dance that they incorporated into their choreo is from South Africa. Cool stuff! A lot to delve into for a music video 😅.
I thought it is about being a new me every day, like I'm still the same as yesterday but there is something new about me today and again tomorrow... About the 1000 people inside me
The meaning of 10, 100s of people inside me, from what I think, is that they have different personas everyday. And that a new persona is introduced everyday.
Regarding the 100 and 1000 of them being inside them i guess it's related to being and idol. You have your publicity personality, the professional personality, the you who loves music and works, the you you show to family or friends and the you who only you know when you're alone. Could also be related to the map of the soul of carl jung which inspired the next album series with the theory of 3 parts of your personality: persona, shadow and ego. Kind of a way to dissect ones soul to get a deeper look into who a person is.

its because you think idol = celebrity when thats not the case. idols are a specific type of music in korea and kpop is not even really well liked in korea. theres whole other music industry's outside of kpop/idol music in korea. kpop is not korean pop or korean popular music. theres a entire pop scene, rock scene, hip hop scene, r&b scene, trot scene etc that are separated from kpop. kpop is seen as the disney music of korea. bts is a group that many koreans say have surpassed their idol/kpop niche and theyre true artists. many koreans will tell you kpop is not popular in korea for adults. but bts is loved by all age groups. the same can be said about singers like IU or a group like epik high who while they are signed to kpop labels (or were signed to kpop labels) theyre not really kpop. its very complicated due to the false narratives the west has about kpop and trying to push all korean artists into a box so theyre not taken seriously outside of korea/asia. in a way koreans do the same to kpop but thats a whole other conversation. you should react to bts vs kpop by bbygang and youre wrong about kpop by bbygang.
It's interesting my mom always taught me about the rabbit in the moon too but we r south african. Maybe our country has something similar to Korea, when it come to folk tales
I no longer follow dkdktv but their explanation to Idol and Ddaeng is exceptional. Edit: SoKor's GP is notorious in judging the artist. From their looks to talents. Even they go beyond in using media as their weapon to cancel that artist. That's why some of them resorts in suicide. Artist couldn't handle the pressure their own fans and GP does to them. They have a lot of double standards, like what happened to An San (SK's elite Archer, and Triple Olympic Medallist) was cancelled by her own SK Feminist because of her haircut, like HAIRCUT?! If a woman cuts her into boycut that means it's more practical, less time in washing their hair, plus she's an athlete of course her hair should be her least priority. As for BTS, they went through with backlash, petitions for them to disband, even in person they get trashed by the speaker or interviewer, and back then when they performed it is cut by the media by not airing the performance in national tv.
Hi Alex! Can you react to these mv from BTS Boy with luv (feat: Halsey) Airplane pt.2 (Japanese version is only one with mv, so be careful. You would love it tho) Dope (iconic song) Fire (you like fire in their videos, so….yeah, fire)
dunno if anyone else mentioned this so, to add onto the list of clapbacks to critisizms and BTS embracing those parts of themselves, i've heard (not certain if true) that Suga has been made fun of for being quite pale, so in the MV he wears a jumper (sweater) with Snow White on it
DKDKTV has a couple of these reactions. And if you watch the video where BTS watches their Idol video for the first time, they laugh and clap - I’m thinking the meaning Jin assigned to his drawing is “dick”.

It's really fun, I think you'll enjoy it!
Only people who have been loyal everyday to Alex reaction of BTS understand the pain of waiting new upload😂.. did you notice the time of upload is different compare to his early reactions when he first dive into BTS?if yes then you are with me😂💜
Yeees hahah totally
I have been watching since he started and I don’t get the upload difference???
@@Jules.Rae.Author i think i can see the difference, but its okay to me haha i dont think its a problem 😅
@@Jules.Rae.Author I mean the time he used to upload new video is different now..before this he upload new video in the morning(my time zone) and I saw it as soon as I wake up but now its a little bit late sometimes in the evening or afternoon😂.. but I guess its still okay since he still upload regularly💜

It's saying "I'm not the same as I was yesterday" & "there are different sides/parts of me" but I embrace all of these because after all they're all me
I'm really enjoying his journey, it's like I'm being a baby ARMY again. Even if I was alrdy here since 2017 😌
Same - it's like reliving my own journey!! So much fun to watch!! I fell for BTS in 2016 and never looked back!! I will be ARMY to the end!!
I hope he reads thiss to help his confusion
exactly, that´s why BTS is beyond Kpop
"there's always someone listenning to bts song", hits differently....
"There's always somebody awake listening to BTS" - Alex, 2021
Facts!
The shark was representative of the haters that they were ignoring. It was like they had created their own shark cage they were dancing in. 💜👍🏻
Idol, baepsae and Ddaemg these three songs just shows how incredibly genius RM is when it come to songwriting
사랑 (Sarang) is 'love' and 사랑해 (Saranghae) is 'I love you' 💕
Thanks for watching! Explanations were also goven in the comments, so hope you check those out.
david: *explains what the multiple people inside means*
alex: wait but what does the multiple people inside mean?
literally nothing against you. i just found it kinda funny. i do the same thing all the time and things just fly over my head
Lol... like the clip when David explained about the shark trying to attack BTS but they were unaffected and just don't care. Next, Alex asked was he not going to explain about the shark (if I heard correctly)😂😂
@@emilyl1094 yeah omg i almost made a comment about that too😂
I haven’t actually watched DKDkTV’s explanation vid for Idol before so i laughed so hard when they referenced Jin’s “condom scandal” in the video 😂
I completely forgot about it. I remember being so baffled as to why there was such an upset when it happened. Dumbest shit lol. Let them men live.
I get them pretty late at night, but I'm always so happy to see notifications for your videos
As a Korean who has lived here for 20 years, Korean general public do like idol music lol
If u see every korean chart u can see top ten is always filled with idol music
It's rather like they tend to not acknowledge most of them as 'real artist' bc gp think they don't produce thier own music (in this case, except bts) which could be a very harmful prejudice
@@쩨끼럽 what I've said is based on what some K-Armys have said on twitter so yeah
I'm not gonna lie, I almost screamed when I saw the notification 😅💜
There are things about the Love Yourself theme of IDOL that you may understand better after reading the lyrics of their song, "Answer: Love Myself," from the same album. It does not have a mv, but there are videos of their concert performances.
Im loving how we're witnessing him become a fan 🤣 like, not all reactors go this deep in understanding stuff our boys does✨
Besides this explanation, bts said they wanted this song to be a huge celebration as it is the end of Love Yourself series. So, they're like I love myself, including my culture and nationality.
ooohh you should actually check out J-Hope’s solo music videos! Airplane and Daydream! They’re SO pretty and they use a few of the same locations but in different ways in those mv’s so they are kinda tied together.
There were those whole bunch of references in this video but still it leaves this feeling that it's more than just what we can see
I really appreciate the effort and time you put into actually understanding BTS. 💜 watching you journey is absolutely wholesome.
bts idol explained by a korean is one of my favorite videos, i’ve seen it so many times
I love the coincidence that happened here! I just finished my Homework and this came up and I'm so exited...
In Korea , actors and actresses has a higher status than idols and comedians/entertainers
8:08 i think what they meant by "10, 100 of myself exist" is the different personas that they have
In this mv, they do a lot of things that haters talk bout them like cgi, rm using filters, v wearing glasses, korean references and like a lot more
I'm basically having a reaction marathon here and I love your insights!
Wow i never get this exited to watch a reaction video!
Actually there is another explanation from xceleste. But her explanation about rabbit in the moon is slightly different with David (DKDKTV) explanation. You can check if you want.
Hm, i don’t think i’ve seen that one yet. I guess a big part of the difference would be that she’s not from a korean cultural standpoint
I think with the duplicate members I think it’s a clap back at haters who say “there’s too many members” or “they all look the same”
Also yoongi wearing a Snow White shirt I believe is a reference to ppl calling him Snow White bc of his pale skin.
SHARK : HATERS, MUSIC INDUSTRY.
BARS: ARMY. We're gonna protect them for ever!!!!!! 💜
That's why we suggested to do both explanation 😅
jhope's singles Daydream, Ego and chicken noodle soup are amazing dude, Please react to those mvs too. jaeballl
every BTS song always have strong meanings...BTS just being BTS they don't care what haters wan saying about them...like RM said just go in the coffee shop and just forgetting no need wasting ur energy to thinking...just simple ...
I loved the part when you said at the end of the video: There's always someone listening to BTS somewhere 💜
It is Sooo True! 😎
Regards from Japan 😊
I thought it is about being a new me every day, like I'm still the same as yesterday but there is something new about me today and again tomorrow... About the 1000 people inside me
I wasss waitingg for this one since yesterdayyy
Yehey its up! Been waiting for this after you MV reaction😊
I remember watching his reaction to Butter then now to "as an American fan of BTS"

its because you think idol = celebrity when thats not the case.
idols are a specific type of music in korea and kpop is not even really well liked in korea.
theres whole other music industry's outside of kpop/idol music in korea. kpop is not korean pop or korean popular music.
theres a entire pop scene, rock scene, hip hop scene, r&b scene, trot scene etc that are separated from kpop. kpop is seen as the disney music of korea. bts is a group that many koreans say have surpassed their idol/kpop niche and theyre true artists.
many koreans will tell you kpop is not popular in korea for adults. but bts is loved by all age groups.
the same can be said about singers like IU or a group like epik high who while they are signed to kpop labels (or were signed to kpop labels) theyre not really kpop.
its very complicated due to the false narratives the west has about kpop and trying to push all korean artists into a box so theyre not taken seriously outside of korea/asia. in a way koreans do the same to kpop but thats a whole other conversation.
you should react to bts vs kpop by bbygang and youre wrong about kpop by bbygang.
It's interesting my mom always taught me about the rabbit in the moon too but we r south african. Maybe our country has something similar to Korea, when it come to folk tales
That person would be me. Awake. Listening to bts.
Can't wait til you see the shooting sketch! Side note: Red looks so good on you and this camera
I think you really should look at the 2018 MMA performance of IDOL, you would love the staging
Been waiting for this.
Hi Alex! Can you react to these mv from BTS
Boy with luv (feat: Halsey)
Airplane pt.2 (Japanese version is only one with mv, so be careful. You would love it tho)
Dope (iconic song)
Fire (you like fire in their videos, so….yeah, fire)
finally. thank you 💜
dunno if anyone else mentioned this so, to add onto the list of clapbacks to critisizms and BTS embracing those parts of themselves, i've heard (not certain if true) that Suga has been made fun of for being quite pale, so in the MV he wears a jumper (sweater) with Snow White on it
This was awesome! Thank you 💜
DKDKTV has a couple of these reactions. And if you watch the video where BTS watches their Idol video for the first time, they laugh and clap - I’m thinking the meaning Jin assigned to his drawing is “dick”.
It's my first time hearing this explanation I've never watched this in other reaction channel cause I like your channel
You should also react to BTS IDOL explained by xCeleste she talks more about the visuals about how BTS purposely use CGI and filter and RM filters on Vlive
Face off was so dope 7:13 what a cool movie 🎥
