      Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy. Emulation is very exciting and as you know i leverage it often. I feel so thankful about the real hardware but even more so that we have such robust emulators!

    Oh - my SimonGK built custom A4000 black powder coated sheetmetal case was delivered today for my brand new ACILL A4000 black motherboard. Waiting on Kavanoz to finish building Black daughterboard, ReA4001, and BFG. In 24 hours it went from England to Michigan where it is sitting at my door for when I get home. Impressive UPS delivered that quickly considering the bulk/weight/size.

    It's ironic that PCMCIA was almost completely useless back in the day except for a CD-ROM drive, but now it's so handy and tidy solution for transferring files, and for ethernet which I believe is faster than many other solutions.

    • @HoldandModify
      @HoldandModify  Рік тому +2

      Yes! It’s one of those things we got lucky with. A lot of folks used it as ram expansion. Slow but at least something.

      Um it was pretty darn Handy for me back in the Days, with the VideMaster, PCMCIA ethernet and wireless cards that worked immediately right from a PC (people lied back then about PC parts not working on Amiga).

      @a4000t Рік тому

      Actually there was 16bit sound cart for it,scsi,cdrom,fast ram cards,video digitizer,etc.

    • @uberdude2555
      @uberdude2555 Рік тому

      @@a4000t I'm taking about the Commodore era when the machine was released until it was officially discontinued, the vast majority who used the PCMCIA slot *then* it was for either one of two things, a CDROM drive, or a controller for a 3.5" hard drive, the PCMCIA memory cards were available back then but they cost a Kings ransom, most users instead opted for a memory card in the trapdoor expansion which was many times cheaper. There are some oddity cards for the PCMCIA, a digitizer card, sound sampler, not sure when these were released, but the Parallel port equivalents were cheaper and much more popular. There was AFAIK never a 16-bit sound card for the PCMCIA slot, even to this day no drivers have been written. The useful everyday stuff we take for granted on the PCMCIA today, CF storage, wireless ethernet, these didn't appear until the late 90's, possibly even the early 2000's.

    As for that HDMI thingy...
    You can always use Anti static bag to dress it up against making contact....
    Just don't cover it too much like a blanket... don't want to trap heat on it

    I was staying in London briefly (6 months or so) around the time of the A600. It felt like an odd duck at the time, hard to explain.
    I had an A500 and 2000 but my all time votes have to go with the A3000 and A1200. My A1200 is my goto workaday and I now have acquired an heir and a spare (motherboard).
    The A500’s will always hold a place in everyone’s psyche of that time. Such a revolutionary machine and affordable (relatively speaking). I have such an early one it has the mechanical switches on the keys. Love that thing! Lol…
    Lusted for the 1000 but alas it was out of my reach then. Sorry, I digress. It’s nice to see the A600 has a niche now and is finding use and appreciation thanks to folks like you and Chris. Nicely done video, cool new intro.

    The one thing the A600 has going for it is its small size. With a few nice toys inside it becomes a very respectable piece of kit. I have one sitting in the useless corner of my L Shaped Desk. Does not take up much space but man does it collect stuff I am working on yea it's a staging ground for my other Amiga Projects but soon it will be cleaned up and ready to run again. Never ever say your done with any Amiga because someone will come out with something, and you're bound to open them up again. I own 3 A600's but one I have to repair and hopefully I will get to it very soon.

    I personally liked the A600, my feeling was that where Commodore went wrong was to release the A500+, had they not done so and instead released the just the A600 at a reduce price point I think the A600 would have made allot more sense. The A600 had many enhancements over the stock A500 and also brought over the fresh Amiga case design that the A1200 would also follow.

    • @timvangenechten5258

      The A600 had some clever and welcome updates for expandability and file transfer. Sadly, they improved almost nothing to help game developers. The Blitter badly needed an H-Flip function, and more PCM sound channels could have been a very welcome addition. The A1200 had better layer and sprite options, but it still wasn't as vast an improvement as it could have been.

    • @HoldandModify
      @HoldandModify  Рік тому +1

      $300 to $500. $300 I think is fair especially if it’s not recapped. Most seem to pop up for $400+. Some with add-ons. Others without.

    Dan Goswick hand crafted a mount for my A600 RGB2HDMI he converted from the A500 version before there was an A600 pcb...and it mounts where the old RF is. It is not something everyone could do though.

  • @boydpukalo8980
    @boydpukalo8980 Рік тому

    That something you mentioned is called janky! I would 3D print a mount for the HDMI adapter and keep that ribbon cable entirely inside the case where it belongs. Someday you will forget about it dangling out the back side of the case and rip that ribbon out of the board. Pretty cool seeing crossover / collaboration between your channel and Dr Chris’s. Videos came out the same day too I think. Keep up the good work.

    Never had an amiga back in the day … decided the A600 would be the perfect machine for me. I don't need a serious working machine because my work wants a bunch of workstation and server hardware. Had my eye on an A600 for a good price. Then someone released a vampire board and the asking prices went up by about triple. Didn't have it, and couldn't justify it for a games machine if I did.
    I said nah, I'll go for a Raspberry Pi or minimig … More hardware that's kinda unavailable these days-though that's at least starting to change. If you place a pre-order, you might be waiting many weeks (as opposed to months) but you will get them for what they ought to cost.
    Looks like you made some basic, smart upgrades to this thing.

    With the expansion slot to be used for adding Fast RAM.
    It also wouldn't have hurt to have the A600 running a 16mhz 68000 or 68010...
