the reply is technically only 3 months old, because it came out 4 years after Aris' comment. ergo, it's moment of birth. Ahh.. the cycle of life. And that, my young chap is hilarious.
This is probably the most clear and useful movement guide i found on YT. I'm on Ps3 pad and i just started TTT2 (30hrs at the moment) and keepimg my guard up while backdashing is one of my main problem. I'll keep training tho! Thanks a lot for your good work!
Hitbox seems like the best device for Tekken. I cannot tell you how many times I've gotten hit by something because of messing up a backdash cancel on stick. With perfect inputs on the hitbox, this should no longer be a problem!
OMG. MY WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. This is amazing. I had been trying to bb, db, b, db... and was doing OK at it but never thought of utilizing socd's. This changes everything for me. Thanks!
People who started off playing fighting games on PC via keyboard like myself. I've tried many times to get into using a gamepad or a fightstick, but I could never stick to it. So when this product came out I just thought it was a GODSEND. It's just the right kind of controller for peeps like me who've started off pressing "WASD" for their directionals and would like to continue pressying buttons to do their directional inputs. xD
I can honestly vouch for this product. I got mine 2 weeks ago, I have now pretty much gotten used to it. I wont lie, its a bit confusing at first, but you just cant give on it right away. this has greatly improved my execution.
I got mine about 2 weeks ago too. I adjusted immediately, but I also come from PC gaming. The transition was non-existent. Definitely the best controller I've ever used for a fighting game and worth every penny.
Tekken has a "buffering" system which allows for short cuts that can make execution simpler. So instead of doing a string like 1,1+2, you can instead do 1 (hold 1), slide 2 which the game will interpret as 1,1+2. The term SOCD is just a coined term to describe opposing directions. So what they're doing is applying SOCD to the buffer system to increase execution speed for movement to something that's hard for humans to do consistently, in this case, a consistent (safer) BD that's easy to do.
So tell me how you hit two directions AT THE SAME TIME with a stick? Forward and back like he does in this vid. iWR can also instantly be done at an inhuman level with this thing. iWR on stick is hard as hell.
Ordered one of these just for Tekken. My thought on this is this: "You mean I can ignore the arbitrary execution barriers and focus on the REAL game? The one about outwitting my opponent and applying strategies and tactics effectively? No more bullshit from the archaic movement system?". Thank you hitbox,, seriously. Games are meant to be played and enjoyed, not to be endured.
If taking advantage of the SOCD cleaning to get IWR, I'm thinking you'd hold in the direction you want to go, and then use 2 other fingers to immediately hit the direction you don't want 1-2 frames apart from each other using the slide method. If Going Right: R+[L,L],R+attack. In this case, you'd use your ring and middle fingers to hit left, and when they're off the button you hit the attack since R is still pinned by your index finger.
This is so enticing. I play stick and am currently learning pad, but I really want to try out the hitbox as well. I will definitely look into ordering one this week.
I can totally imagine what you're up to. I mentioned Ryu for a reason. I'd say why here, but I don't wanna spoil any surprises. Dustin, perhaps you should title it FADC, and the advantages of Internal SOCD Cleaning.
In this respect, I do agree with posters Sticky and Steve that this is roughly on the same level as programmable devices. To John GRIMM: The fact that the SOCD "counts" as a direction either way, is what make this completely different to a normal netural input. Yes, it achieves the "same" thing (i.e its neutral) but that one input extra to get an iWR makes all the diff, because fwd dashing is a very easy input. Imagine simply having to tap twice to get (not tap and hold) to get a run ?
My hitbox is rather different. Left is priority over Right, and Up is priority over Down. hold both Left & Right you will get Left; while holding both Up & Down will give you Up. Advantage to me as a Guile player, I can remain Down all the time, and tap Up + K, to execute the Flash Kick and go back to charge in the shortest time possible
If you're can use a screwdriver/hex wrench, all you need to do is flip the top panel (and of course replace the buttons on the other side. Nothing difficult.)
And how is it an exploit? There is not a single input the Hit Box is doing that you can't do on a stick, unless you're saying that a neutral input is impossible on stick, which is all SOCD is. The only thing you could possibly complain about is the speed that you can do said inputs, and that's not an exploit, that's S-Tier.
The users on Shoryuken forums just found weird unexpected benefits to this like how to exploit the SOCD Anti-cheating to make other commands easier or better in terms of execution. Hold the direction you want to go, tap the opposite direction to want to go, to 1-2 frame double taps. You can also use this SOCD cleaning to get the fastest dragon punch in the world T,T+D+B,D+T where T=Towards, D=Down, and B=Back. Imagine this in SSF4 with Ryu. [DP XX FADC Ultra].
Any tips on dealing with the strain on the fingers? I can move the fingers on my right hand (my writing hand) easily but when it come to my left hand it's so much harder and strenuous. For some reason I can't 'mirror' what I do on my right to my left.
And of course one has to bear in mind that being able to flawlessly BDC will NOT turn you into Knee. You STILL need fundamentals. Being able to BDC this easily only allows you more freedom to focus your attention on OTHER fundamentals of Tekken. You STILL have to block lows, break throws, punish, mix up, hit confirm, and gain the practice+experience to beat your opponent's character AND their mind. Using a Hitbox doesn't automate ANY of that.
I seriously cannot see the problem.. no it's not a "natural" way to do it, but it makes it easier. It allows the players (pro players even) to focus on knowledge of the game, and not so much execution of difficult moves like OTGF and EWGF. Ive ordered one and I'll get it in february according to the website, and im so picking up a mishima when I get it.
loved your video mate thank you for making this I have trouble with my guarding and this video helps me a lot Gonna try some of these stuff tomorrow and see if there is any improvement ALL in time of course Do you have a video of HOW i can do a tag with Jin and Kig ??? or literally anyone else i don't mind !!! Just someone i can use for Jin !!!!
How did you make that red light up fight button overlay. That exact one. I have use some in the past but I can't ever find one for hitbox only joysticks. I have tried "gamepad viewer" but they don't have a layout for hitbox.
that's understandable. It is an arcade game so sticks is fan favorite. However most people don't use the stick because it's a classic. People use it because they think it's better. if it was a lot better to play on a controller then people will play on a controller. It's just how it is for a lot of people. A lot of people are using the hit box because they think it's better for them and are willing to re learn the controller scheme like people do to go from pad to stick.
I've fallen in love with this stick. never seen this kind of stick before. though m a stick player but i think this thing is ten times better than that. is this the first stick of this type?
If playing with a keyboard called cheating? There are players in Evo use a keyboard for Street Fighter. Don't forget players in PC also has the option to play. FPS, is using a Razor mouse called cheating? Same thing applied
the back dash doesnt work for me i tried the exact inputs but it doent work if i do it faster or more precise while just inputing them and im using the pad and i use a arcade stick
I might actually get/make one of these. ive really wanted to get into tekken for awhile, but ive always found the movement so damn hard, but this looks way easier. k-backdash on stick is really hard to be accurate with, and that looks easier than a qcf.
Austin Hays Buying a hitbox specifically to avoid having to practice and learn a technique = you're a bitch. I'm sure I have lost to hitbox players online. But if I faced someone in person I'd take that shit and bash their brains in with it.
Austin Hays I'm being slightly sarcastic... slightly. Use a hitbox on 3d fighters and you're just asking to be lambasted. Yeah, it's a silly game and you can use whatever you want. But buying it specifically to make advanced techniques trivial? Lol just don't tell anyone you use one.
It works in T7! Do you have an official Hit Box where Left + Right = Neutral? A lot of other boards do not have SOCD cleaning. You also need a crisp timing to get the best backdash. Be sure to watch and listen to the rhythm of my fingers. :D
It would make any running move cinch, . It could also open up so many more possiblities because of Tekkens input methods (i.e the hold one, press another, get the combination of buttons, rather then a priority link like SF) which I am sure applies to movement as well given the SOCD works. If SOCD worked for up and down without jump, man, think about how easy potentially iWS could be as well. Look, its not necessarily "wrong", but the "essence" of Tekken to me is lost through devices like this.
Hey so I'm having issues doing the SOCD backdash. I try to hold back and hit down the forward but Jin doesn't look like he's backdashing like he does in this video. it looks really awkward. what am I doing wrong?
Hitbox Varmintb4by what's ur psn or do u have facebook? I can do SOCD backdash look's awesome, but my wavedash could be better , may we could give us eachother tips bro
yea, i'm a stick user, and I dont plan to fork up money to buy a hitbox, but i would like to try it out myself one day. If i were to somehow get it for free, I wouldn't mind trying it out to see if i'll like it, some ppl bitch about hitbox for being unfair and it shouldn't be allowed in tournaments or whatever, but it's not like it's a programmable stick, i dont think anything's wrong with it, just another form of a controller, it has its pros and cons
Wait, Mishima Wavedash would look like this? f, f+b, f+b+d, f+d, f...? Never imagined, that Hitbox SOCD f+b=n can be used like this... I need to buy a hitbox...
Also to John G: "If a neutral input is manipulating the game design then it wasn't designed for you to ever let go of your controller and is probably a bad game" this is an interesting comment. SF does NOT reward you for letting go of your controller there is no auto block like Tekken, yet its probably the most popular fighting game around at the moment, I wish Tekken was, but far more people consistently play SF then Tekken in Sydney, I play both competitively. Anyway my 2cents.
Just bought a hitbox and cannot get iWR moves to come out. I see you posted on Zaibatsu that "plinking" (whatever that means) forward to back and then hitting forward works, but I'm not getting anything. I guess you are trying to say that we should let the second F come from taking our hand off B, and then hitting F. I've tried that method but still cannot get iWR moves to come out. What am I doing wrong?
That's how I normally do it, but I want to utilize the hitbox to get it out more easily. I don't know what I'm doing wrong because in theory this should work: f - f (hold) - tap b + 2
No, tap->hold->tap is faster precisely because you can use two fingers. Think of it this way: Tapping one finger three times is slower than drumming your fingers. This works with perfectly with ff moves, and they come out instantly, just as fast as a single f move because I'm laying down two fingers at a single instance, rather than having to move them in an down-up-down motion (essentially, not needing to raise my finger from the initial press, which requires time). The problem is that the hitbox does not seem to recognize this as fff, even though it should, theoretically (or perhaps the problem is with T7?).
Damon Verial it could be tekken I think there is a rythym to it, I don't have my hitbox yet so Idk for sure. I play on dpad and if i do f, f,f +2 as fast as I can it doesn't come out. That's why I said f, f, N, f +2. This works point blank, 90% of the time every time
Ok, so i went to hitboxarcade.com and i saw 2 hitboxes, one for the ps3 and pc, and a second for every console, yet the one this guy is using in this video has some special artwork on it, and the ones on the website are completly blank. Can someone help me?
The same type of "cheating" as going from pad to stick. HitBox is simply the next evolution. Did you cry when you had to buy a stick for fighters to be more competitive? Now there is new hardware so like all technology you upgrade or stay behind. If it makes you feel any better plenty of people win with just pad or just a stick.
IMO it still comes down to actually applying what you know consistently and good decision making at high level. Movement on three different devices (pad, stick, hitbox/keybord) all becomes seamless enough when you get the muscle memory for it. Stuff like Bryan's Taunt JU in terms of clean execution for intermediate players is nice on hitbox. But actually applying it in matches to get results is just a different story altogether.
Well you are talking about an ARCADE game, so it's technically designed for stick in the first place. And actually, overall stick is a bit tougher to use but it allows for more overall execution.
Dustin, from now on, whenever you mention SOCDs, you must mention the fact that the SOCDs are being nullified internally by the Hitbox itself. If you don't mention that in the actual video, and you mention doing SOCDs, they'll think it's a feature of the game and not the device. You made that mistake in the charge moves tutorial, and almost if not every other tutorial you've made that I've seen. Other than that, you always do a good job.
doesn't just rolling the fingers on back and down work for a proper backdash cancel? b, n, b, d/b, n, b, d/b, n etc.... tap back,on the second back hold it and almost immediately press down as well, let go of both tap back and tap down while holding back for a slight amount of time. because AFAIK this is one of the most proper pad strategies, you just roll the thing between back and downback (and let go after d/b) at a very specific timing after the initial back and neutral input.
The clean neutral part of a BDC without getting any down inputs inTekken is what makes the technique hard. Neutral is a very important input in Tekken (is featured a lot in the notations) and to be able to achieve the state like this just seems like a dishonest hack.
Not really, the real reasson of why people chose arcade sticks over control pads is not a matter of "stick vs D-pad", which one is better to pull QC motions is not important, people preffer arcade sticks because you can't use "piano-ing" techniques on a control pad, you need an arcade stick with 2 rows of buttons easily accesible to at least 4-5 buttons, 1 button for each finger, (2 buttons for the pinky), the only pads that I know of that are "piano-able" are the MD and Saturn controllers.
Tekken is like an internal combustion engine. They perfected an engine that's 30% energy efficient. That's a flawed design but hey, gotta love that Ferrari. Same with this game. Hate to admit I enjoyed it but... I don't want to grind for many years just to get well at an execution. This game seems to care more about execution than your intelligence. I'm actually enjoying chess now. I can definitely play that when I get old and fragile. But who cares what I think. The young generation will keep financing Namco.
and with that logic fighting sticks are better then the common ps3 controller because you can certain stuff a lot easier on a fight stick then on a controller.
I like a complex and intricate system. What I don't like is when system is convoluted to all hell, and that's where I draw the line. Movement in Tekken has to be the most convoluted system I've experienced in a fighting game. And this is coming from someone who loves the franchise to death. If there's ever one thing about the series that needs to be streamlined, this is it.
Great vid guys, I'll put it up on my site asap. BTW this shit is mad cheap.

Wasn't expecting to see a 5 year old Aris' comment here lol.
Quality video for keyboard users as well!

Awesome guide, will need to try this. I think this will do nicely for all my characters especially my main, Alisa. Cant wait to try this out!
I got mine about 2 weeks ago too. I adjusted immediately, but I also come from PC gaming. The transition was non-existent. Definitely the best controller I've ever used for a fighting game and worth every penny.
left + right... man I would love to do that on stick...
You can bro, just don't touch the stick at all 😂😂
@@adinothe3znite970 duh 🤣🤣🤣
u can get a cross up soon
Tekken has a "buffering" system which allows for short cuts that can make execution simpler. So instead of doing a string like 1,1+2, you can instead do 1 (hold 1), slide 2 which the game will interpret as 1,1+2. The term SOCD is just a coined term to describe opposing directions. iWR can also instantly be done at an inhuman level with this thing. iWR on stick is hard as hell.
yeah man ! btw love ur videos ^_^
And now you're shilling mixboxes. Why mainman. Why have you forsaken us?
Ordered one of these just for Tekken. My thought on this is this: "You mean I can ignore the arbitrary execution barriers and focus on the REAL game? This is so enticing. I play stick and am currently learning pad, but I really want to try out the hitbox as well. I will definitely look into ordering one this week.
I don't have any plans on using a Hitbox but that was fascinating to watch.
Dude...the part about SOCDs blew my mind. Imagine what it would be like in Marvel: You could wavedash
El mejor tutorial sobre Back Dash! xD
Thank God. I've been trying to figure out the best way to BDC on my hitbox.
Great Video! Can't wait for next gen Hitbox for my XB1 :D
I can totally imagine what you're up to. I mentioned Ryu for a reason. I'd say why here, but I don't wanna spoil any surprises. Dustin, perhaps you should title it FADC, and the advantages of Internal SOCD Cleaning.
i thought.. i find myself weird using keyboard for playing fighting games.. not i don't
SOCD dashing... so perfect
you can do it on controller if you segment the buttons. Also tons of people play on keyboards where you can do the same thing.
This video blew my mind. Thanks for the info. Must...master...dashes..

wow as a korean user, i taught that korean stick is easy and nice to do backdash.but aocd(?)is really amazing and i wanna buy that controller

Trancer006 Yes,it does👍
I don't think you need to do this for tekken, double tapping back in Tekken 7 doesn't open your defense.
Hello, are you gonna adapt the hitbox for the wii u too? Thanks
loved your video mate thank you for making this
I have trouble with my guarding and this video helps me a lot

awe yiss! Instant WR3 pressure all day everyday! XD
practising this method does it goes well for arcade stick as well ?
For the SOCD backdash are you holding back the entire time? This doesn’t seem to work for me.
Yes: 1. Back (Hold) 2. Forward (Tap) 3. Back (Release Forward). Left + Right = Neutral, so the game reads Back, Neutral, Back.
Wow this is great thank you.
FUCK THIS IS INCREDIBLE... LOVING IT...!!!
This is a Godsend for me, I play fighters via qwerty. If they only had a left handed version!
Just Perfect ! you rock mannn!
Do you all make hitboxes that are compatible with both PC and PS4
that is so cool, better than psp buttons
does this also work on chars with sways?
I might actually get/make one of these. ive really wanted to get into tekken for awhile, but ive always found the movement so damn hard, but this looks way easier. k-backdash on stick is really hard to be accurate with, and that looks easier than a qcf.

Does the SOCD backdash (hold tap tap) work for Tekken 7? I heard it got patched.

I want one so bad.
The one true controller
It looks like Hit-box users have a huge advantage over stick/pad players since they can SOCD consistently.
Not like there's any big names though.
Wait, Mishima Wavedash would look like this?
f, f+b, f+b+d, f+d, f...?
Never imagined, that Hitbox SOCD f+b=n can be used like this...
I need to buy a hitbox...

Damon Verial timing. IWR 2. Do f, f, n, f+2. The f+2 must be hit at the exact same time
That's how I normally do it, but I want to utilize the hitbox to get it out more easily. I don't know what I'm doing wrong because in theory this should work:
f - f (hold) - tap b + 2
It sounds like you're making it more difficult having to hit, hit and hold, hit with different finger. Vs hitting one button 3 times
This works point blank, 90% of the time every time
That Stick is ridiculous
SOCD KBD doesn't work for me on Tekken 8 for some reason.
Check out our T8 and T7 playlists, there should be examples in there.
Thanks.
Marvel dashing with hitbox is ridiculously easy. It's not even funny how fast and consistent you can be.
how to miss grab please upload
What kind of pad is he using.
Its called hitbox
We can do that with a PS3 controller ?
i feel like its trade of..... movement is easier but execution feels better on stick.. like doing downforward etc
Can u do this on the dpad
of course but need much more training those people only know how to do moves with easy kids method
HaTeS2LoSe Go play on a dance pad if you think playing on inefficient controllers somehow makes you a better player.
Get a life
You reply to a two month old comment i know you have no life
I use d-pad, gonna train hard. :)
First time that i saw this kind of controller.
Neutral is a very important input in Tekken (is featured a lot in the notations) and to be able to achieve the state like this just seems like a dishonest hack.
what about joystick? lol
Lol! Outdated
Good alternative for this is computer keyboard. Just make the up button the space bar.
and with that logic fighting sticks are better then the common ps3 controller because you can certain stuff a lot easier on a fight stick then on a controller.
