Thanks for posing this. It was great to see a bit of Rita's fling with Alan again, after all these years. And I'd forgotten about the storyline about Rita's stolen necklace. I believe that it somehow played a part in Ed finding about Rita and Alan's affair.
I don’t think this originally aired on February 9, 1981. It must’ve aired sometime in the summer. Since they’re talking about everyone hanging out around the Bauer pool, and Rita was in a bathing suit. Pretty certain none of this would be going on in February. 😂😂. Just a couple of observations. Loved the show at this time. Huge fan from ‘77 until the early ‘80s before the Reva and the Lewis’s took over. 😳😳
@@flagler88 I remember reading at the time (Soap Opera Digest, maybe?) that Lenore Kasdorf had first agreed to renew her contract for another two years, but then abruptly changed her mind at the last minute before the contract was signed, and so the writers had to tie up all of Rita's loose ends very quickly, without much warning. It seems that they are just starting to lay the groundwork here for Rita's departure, with the business about the stolen necklace. As I recall, Ed somehow found out about the necklace, which caused him to put the pieces together and figure out about Rita's affair with Alan, which ultimately led to her leaving town.
Dear Guiding Light: Winning a crappy *daytime* Emmy is not a valid reason to change your closing credits to show off the statue. Did you ever see The Sopranos or some really good show do this?
I watched this story arc when it was originally broadcast. It was standard procedure at the time for soap operas to run closing cast/production credits 2 or 3 times a week, not after every daily broadcast. All soaps did this.
@kellymcquay2626 I hated Reva from the beginning up to the very end. I wanted to throw up when she was with HB, She said something like what about it old man. I think she was in swim suit at the pool. Old HB was salivating to get with what everyone of her sons sampled. Sleep with a Lewis, cry, sleep with another cry,, repeat, repeat. The whole Shane clan was disgusting (Rusty was ok but no loss when he left). Only Lewis I cared about was Mindy.
I like the Chamberlains and the Reardons, but the Lewis family was a mistake. Except Mindy, of course. What would the Four Musketeers be without her. Seemed like a silly attempt to capitalize on the success of Dallas by adding this wealthy cowboy clan. In the process, they let go of a lot of likeable characters and storylines.
I don't remember this story line at all. It mist have been when I was working 2nd shift. When did Alan and Hope split and Alan and Rita get together as a fling? If anyone can help? Vanessa and Ed???? Shes disgusting 😂
I don't remember the entire timeline of the Alan/Rita affair, but it was something like this: After Rita and Ed reconciled after she lost the baby, they started socializing more with Alan and Hope. One time, Alan accidentally walked in on Rita while she was changing, and (ahem) seemed to like what he saw, lol. Alan and Hope were having some marriage troubles. I think it had to do with custody of Phillip. Elizabeth wanted Justin and Jackie to get permanent custody. Hope sided with them against Alan. Somehow, Alan and Rita ended up in Jamaica at the same time without their spouses. One thing led to another and they began an affair. I remember Hope arrived in Jamaica because she had just found out she was pregnant but she didn't catch them. Hope found out about the affair later and drove her car into a tree. Alan realized he didn't want to lose Hope and ended the affair. After Alan Michael was born they reconciled. Rita left town but wrote a letter to Alan telling him she was in love with him. Vanessa, who was after Ed, found the letter and made sure Ed saw it so he would end the marriage. Rita disappeared. It took like a year to find her. This happened entirely off-screen. I think the original plan was for Rita to return with a child to put a crimp in Ed's burgeoning relationship with Maureen, but that never happened. The character never returned to the show.
This is PURE GOLD. You have no idea how meaningful these episodes are to me-indeed many of us. Thank you !
I thank you for this episode of Guiding Light with Rita Bauer. She was my favorite character back then.
Thank you for this episode with Rita
Thanks! I've been waiting years for these!

Thank you! I hope you have more Episodes from 1981 ❤
Thanks. Never seen this. I think this is the latest appearance I've seen of Rita or Dr. Jackson.
Vanessa looked like she belonged on a Tournament of Roses float in that blouse. LOL
I agree with that!
😂😂😂😂
Some Mansion in Springfield is missing its curtains
excellent please post more !
I loved Rita too! Huge loss for the show when Kasdorf departed. Then it turned into the Lewis hillbilly show and it was ruined.

This is around the week of June 08, 1981 and not long before Rita leaves town.

Yes...We wouldn't want the Inn to get a "Worse reputation " Than Rita Bauer has !!!😂😂😊
We All need a secretary like Diane Ballard !!!😂😂 What fantasy world does Nola live in ??😂😂
Good Lord Vanessa what are you wearing? 😂😂
WTF is Vanessa wearing? Was she planning to star in Springfield’s revival of The Pirates of Penzance?

Im not a fan of the Chamberlains, Lewis' and Reardons taking over GL
Reva was the problem

Agreed. Everything was cheapened. Whom ever decided to fire/write off/kill off so much of the mid to late 70s to early eighties cast was a fool.

@@merricat3025I couldn't stand the Mindy character. She was better after they recast the role. Imo.

I hate Nola
You just paid Lisa Brown (the actress) a HUGE compliment. That's her job to make you hate her.

RIP Lisa Brown.
We great a break from her in 1985 !!!😂😂
Couldn't stand Nola! Liked Kelly, however. 🔥😉👍
I loved Nola and the reardon family!
