People in Spain know that if they seek the judicial route to evict squatters, then due to the severe delays amounting to years, the political environment that does not criminalise or penalise squatters, most people seek alternative routes, including services of private security firms like Desokupa to evict the squatters.
Only in Spain, can squatters take legal action to force the property owner to maintain utility services, many times which can not be interrupted to evict squatters! Disgusting!

Ok, I'll bite. Do you know the percentage of the houses that are being squatted are owned by private owners vs banks who have them on their balance sheet as an asset yet haven't been lived in for decades or are you going to push the same right-wing narrative as Stu and assume they're all poor private home owners. Educate yourself about banking, take a (preferably university) class in financial institutions and you'll see the truth about housing.

First of all Happy New Year to you all. May it bring you joy and health.
So Sánchez, has taken stock of the past six months. Stronger, fairer and more cohesive, to face the challenges of the future. He does not say how. Does anyone know? I can't see it myself. Sánchez, what about Spains future challenges, is she prepared?
Honestly, these politicians are full of soundbites, and never allow 'the dog to see the rabbit'. We see more than you think. You must think that we are all fools.

Regarding the high rate of squatting in Catalonia, the main reason is the far-left republican government policies here which favour the "less fortunate". The hands of the Mossos d'Esquadra are tied and they cannot act until a judge dictates eviction but this process takes years. I've lived here for 30 years and have myself been a victim of squatting so I've been through the whole nightmare. Perhaps the best illustration of these policies is Barcelona where the communist grade left wing Ada Colau (former Mayoress of Barcelona) has openly permitted the theft of her citizens' properties for years: you can literally pop out to the shops for groceries to find upon your return that the locks have been changed and there's a group of people in your flat who are then protected by the "dret a la vivenda" law which basically states that someone's right to a roof over their heads transcends the rights of the flat owner who, owning property is obviously is a capitalistic, imperialist pig and deserves to have his/her flat expropriated. Of course Ada Colau formulated these laws from the comfort of her own property while under 24/7 police protection.

Well, this Spanish lack of respect for property/left wing madness on squatters, has put me off buying a property in Girona. There is no peace of mind, especially given the pressure coming from our central controllers, as they transition us from fiat to CBDC's. I reckon France/Portugal is a much safer option and I wouldn't trust southern Spain either, since squatters operate nationwide.

...i thought that if the home is your primary one, I think you are slightly better protected by the law? Is that not the case?
Anyway no way are squatting stats down when the law protects them so well. Has INE included renters who suddenly decide not to pay ? This is on the up for sure. Judging by whatsapp/fb local groups I'm in, squatting is still a huge problem in some areas

It's beyond unclear to me, if your more protected on your main Spanish residence, but common sense would dictate that if squatters can enter any building in Spain, and the police wont remove them, then it probably doesn't matter if it's your home or a let premises. The attitude/reaction of the police is paramount in a squatting situation. A quick check shows that, the opposite situation exists in Portugal/France, police can/will promptly remove squatters, for the criminals they are. @@jmw950

@@jmw950 it doesn't matter if it's your primary residence / property, in Spain the okupas have more rights to it than you. The best defence is to install an alarm with cameras through a security company, this way the initial break in is caught in film and takes away the okupas' tactic of claiming to have been in residence for 48 hours (within 48 hours they can be evicted by you have to prove this) when challenged. This then constitutes intrusion which is illegal as opposed to squatting. I've had such a system for 9 years now after a year- long battle with violent squatters in one of my properties. Since then no problems at all, they go looking for easier targets.

In Australia there are a few birds that swoop during nesting season- September to November Magpies, Butcher birds, Native Mynahs, Plovers to name a few. They then go back to their placid selves for the rest of the year.
As for the screeching of the birds in the background, Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and as I heard in this video, Rainbow Lorikeet’s. These birds are the main coastal screechers, along with Kookaburra’s, some mornings it can sound like Jurassic Park!

Well the number is higher in Catalunien because they welcome more foreners there, with political intentions, to gain more votes. They give then many facilities there and become easyer the posibility to register there, and get money claims, as return for votes, for the Independent governament. It is just a question of i give you favor and you give your vote...

España is not serious about property rights. I have family in Barcelona and they are terrified that someone is going to get into their apartment and they will not be able to get them out without going through a legal process.

Private property rights are essential to a functioning economy. That means they have the legal entitlement to prevent individuals from trespassing and using their land for personal gain. This should be protected by the legal system and law and enforcement provided by the government.

No wonder Squatting is going down in some parts of Spain they have all come to Murcia !! we have had 4 squats within 100mtrs of where i live in the last 12 months and its a sad pantomime watching the Police / Aquallia / Iberdrola constantly coming out and pretending to do there jobs ...the squatters break into the property ...steal the electric ...steal the water and then burgle and attack there neighbours to fund there drug habits and drive round in Non ITV'd cars with impunity and nobody does anything about it

The other main reason why bars are closing, not just in Spain, but all over Europe, is the availability of cheap alcohol at supermarkets. For example, Lidl sells an excellent range of German Craft beers at 99 cents/half litre can; Aldi sometimes sells San Miguel at even lower prices......great quality wine is still sold in supermarkets across Iberia at amazingly low prices. So whose going to leave one's warm. cosy house, and go out to a bar to pay higher prices and be told No Smoking (soon to be banned outside).

It is much the same in the USA. Young people don’t expect to receive Social Security because it is very popular and neither major party can agree about how to keep it solvent. In fact we’re anticipating 25% cuts in the next 8 years or so. People are living longer, many reliant on Social Security only, & following generations who fund current recipients are not as big.

Spain’s property market is heading towards the Great Titanic plunge!
How can you have property owners living in fear of home invasions and then expect them to pay for the squatters utilities.
A squatter riddled mess and a living nightmare for property owners!
    Time for a new Government!

Catalonia squatters are mainly in big cities especially Barcelona - blackmailers who target rich owners of 2nd or 3rd apartments, a lucrative scam, and the local government may not be quick to evict because of feeling sorry for (voting) criminals?

Green energy needs to be country specific Spain has a lot of Sun but would have to buy in Nuclear. Perhaps Spain should build a few hydro dams to also solve the increasing drought problems - and an answer for many countries maybe a small nuclear reactor that should come on stream in a few years

    Book 41, hadith 6985
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and
the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree
    and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me;
come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.
