Sarah I love your work. It's so relaxing and comfortable to settle down to sew and embroider with you, a refuge from the high powered fast paced life that surrounds us. Also, love to see your sweet cat.
Lovely tutorial. Your peacock is stunning!! The reverse appliqué piece you showed us is called a Mola, made by the Guna people of Panama and Colombia. A traditional fabric art which is sewn into a blouse and worn by the Guna women.
This is a great video...... but... all of your videos are great !!! I have always loved the look of applique, but had no idea how to do it. Now you have given me some great techniques to try. Thank you Sarah. You are a wonderful teacher and so inspiring !!!!
Hi Sarah i recently found you and i love your works of art! You are a wonderful artist. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your designs so generously. 😊 love them all!
Ooh Sarah, 2 videos and 2 lovely projects in one week, what a treat!, and thank you for all the fantastic technique information, just loved appliqued Ginger cat too, and he seemed to approve, only leaving the table when he was sure you'd done him justice!. Thanks for all you share with us x
Absolutely fascinating to watch & see how this piece developed! Many Many thanks, Sarah & Ginger Cat! Great photography for this video! I enjoyed the clear close-up shots!
Just discovered your channel with this video and, wow, how you’ve kick started my creativity! Not really an embroiderer, but I make use of the blanket stitch, back stitch, French knot in many of my fabric creations. I’ve subscribed and look forward to learning more in the months to come. Here’s a heartfelt thank you, Sarah! Lili
I am grateful for the reminder to practice, it applies to many areas of life. I have been asked by my granddaughter to teach/help make a dress in the Australian school holiday yikes , it has been 25 years since I did any garment work 🎉
Love your tea cup piece and your flower in the flower pot with Ginger Puds ....and your Mexican reverse applique quilt is amazing ! Thankyou for sharing 🐱 🧡 xxx
Very nice, Sarah! These applications are amazing! You make the process seem so easy, yet from my meager experience in appliqué, I know it’s a slow, tedious learning ordeal. I’ll be coming back to this video often when I again try to appliqué🥰
Well thank you so much for your inspiration, lessons and teaching. I have just started doing slow Applique/ embroidery, and came across your videos. So pleased about that, I'm having a binge.
I have enjoyed this video Sarah and can't wait to have a go. I have a pair of applique scissors that I purchased when I was learning to make Irish Carrickmacross lace. Happy New Year.
Hello from Texas. I have "had a go" at the applique. Just a helpful hint. When I cut my patches out of fabric, I like to use Mod Podge for fabric. It is washable and keeps the little peaces from fraying. Mix it half and half with water and brush it on the back side. Let dry overnight. You can cut out your designs and sew them down.
I was really happy to see this because I've been doing a bit of applique but only with felt, as I wasn't sure how to deal with fabrics that can fray. This is so helpful!
Enjoying watching, great tutorials. I’ve been sewing for many years but never really got into embroidery, wanting to change that and hopefully create a beautiful sampler as I’ve always admired those beautiful antique pieces. Some cat advice kindly meant and to save any unwanted injury to yourself, a little blow or stronger is much safer than a swipe of claw. 🙂
Love, love, love this video! How wonderfully creative you are Sarah! I especially liked the reverse appliqué technique-and the stick! What a creative addition! I think Ginger Cat approves his appliquéd doppelgänger lol 😂 Thanks again Sarah-you really make learning fun!
Another great. Video I have come across! You are a great teacher! Another technique to turn edges over I have used, it has cut down on bulk is sewing a thin piece of cotton fabric, tulle etc., put two pieces together, right side together. Then sew all the way around your shape. Slash down the middle, turn inside, then applique on to your background fabric after cutting out bulk material and ironing it.
Sarah thank you for being such an amazing instructor. I love ginger cat 🥰 too cute!!! Can you give us suggestions on where to source pretty scenic fabrics and your method for fussy cutting in such detail. If this information is provided, just let me know where to go. Thank you for creating a very peaceful and lovely creative environment. ~Monique
Thank you for this video, I've been wondering about appliques. I do have a question: what if I wanted to make my own applique? I'm going to guess I'd have to do a sturdy stitch around the entire thing and then cut close to the edge of my stitches... or maybe I could leave a bit of the fabric and do the tucking under technique? Hmm. Just thinking out loud, I guess. 😊 The peacock piece is absolutely stunning, by the way. Seriously love it!
Im a new fan! I live your clear and simple approach to teaching. For a slow learner, I am able to follow you! Yay! May i ask what is the contraption that your holding your applique project in? I definitely would love o e, where can i find them? Any ideas? Thank you very much for sharing! Also, your sweet accent is so lovely to listen too!!
Thank you Sarah. Always well filmed and explained. I wan t to use organza for an insect wing. Do I need to use Pellon - I don’t want a stumpwork wing. any advice will be welcome.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your embroidery videos. Your passion and dedication to this craft truly shines through in every video. Your attention to detail is truly impressive, and it’s clear that you have a deep understanding of this art form. If you’re interested, I’d love for you to take a look at my own embroidery channel and let me know what you think.
Sarah, you are not only talented, but sweet to watch. I just keep watching and trying out your ideas. My issue is pattern ideas. Do you have a book I could buy of your ideas and work? I have 5 cats, one black, two black and white, gray and a gray and white. I started out with one male(fixed), and the others just adopted us.
Are you sure you did not pick up the reverse appliqué piece in Panamá? It looks like a Mola, a reverse appliqué textile art form practiced by the Kuna (Guna) people of Panamá and Colombia.
Im curious to know (from Sarah and the rest of you viewers at home:): What is your favorite fabric to work with and do hand embroidery on? Personally, I prefer linen or a thick cotton. Blends are OK too, but I really enjoy using 100% linen the best I think. Probably because it's what I learned on like so many others.
I like doing embroidery work with the hoop but why is there extra material left around the hoop. It seems to me. That the people who design the work should finish the work. Completely. By getting rid of the extra material left.the extra material gets in the way.i would like to know why the people who does the design. Should finish the

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing the applique stitch. The way I was doing it showed sometimes. Can't wait to try your stitch!
I was really happy to see this because I've been doing a bit of applique but only with felt, as I wasn't sure how to deal with fabrics that can fray. This is so helpful!
Felt is lovely to applique with Laura, although I did get told off for using it once as it wasn't for 'serious embroidery'! :D
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery I suspect almost none of my embroidery would be considered really "serious" anyway! 😉
So cute!
This video gave me so many ideas 🤩

Another great video Sarah. Would you ever use Fray Check on the edges to be sure they don't fray before you sew them down?
You can yes Mary
