This helped me so much! I have a recital in one week and even though I've been dancing for a pretty long time, I never could get my hair up properly without it falling apart in class. Thank you so much
i've watched so many of these tutorial videos and this one is by far the best one for me. I always have a problem with my ponytail and usually not with my bun, and your way works so well!! Thanks!!
exactly what I needed! My daughter has hip long fine thick hair! I cant wait to give it a try. Her dance studio require a "recital ready bun" for every class!
This is SOOOOO helpful! I am a long-time dancer, and I have have struggled to make a bun that doesn’t fall out. This is the first time it has actually worked. Thank you sooo much!!!
damn that was the best bun tutorial I seen :o I always did it like twisting all the hair then pinning but that way makes more sense!!! a duh moment hahahaha, thanks
this was a great, no "bun maker" help!! i'm so new to the ballet world as my 6 year old is starting next month. gotta get those supplies and start practicing. thanks!!
This is a life saver! My ballet teacher is such a stickler with how I have my hair in a bun and I never really could figure it out! Thank you so much!!
Hi. I want to say thank you for this vid. I had to take my girl to her first ballet exam today and unfortunately my wife could not get a day off from work so I had to do the hair. I was so worried as being a typical dad I have not had much or any practice with hair apart from a standard ponytail. But after this video I not only managed to do it with nets and pins it was good enough for her exam, I was expecting one of the teachers to re-do it. Thank you again and well done on a great video
I'm a budding ballerina (getting my pointe shoes next month!!) and I'm still trying to do my hair by myself. (since 3 years old! I'm eleven now..) My Mum always did my hair, but now she wants me to do it myself. This helps a lot. I always practice everyday with this on. :)
Oh my Goodness you have no idea how helpful this was because I just made my first EVER ballet bun ON MY OWN and that is saying A LOT since I'm very bad at hairdos. THANK YOU BECAUSE OF THAT I SUBSCRIBED
Awesome, I need to do this for my 5 yr old today before we go to dance class, thank you so much for this video, I will be able to do this . Cheers 😘❤️🙏🇨🇦
Thank you so much, this helped me a lot! Cause my dance education require ballerina buns for ballet, I've never done it before and I have long thick hair and this has actually saved my life and me from having an anxiety attack.
Yes, you are absolutely right. For me, I have never been able to make hair pins work because they just fly out of my hair and don't keep it secure. But, the recommendation for many dancers is to use hair pins and not bobby pins. Just depends on your hair!
OHH! I've been a ballet mum for years, and never thought to wrap the hair net around a few times. I've only put it straight on and pinned it under. Duh. Face palm.
Thank you so much. BATD ballet exam this afternoon for my little one. This year they said no bun maker. I will have to struggle with her 24" very voluminous curly hair, even when straightened it's still so big. Wish me luck.
Very helpful! I need to make a bun for my daughter for a show and she has fluffy but thin hair (i've always struggled with making smooth buns for her)...
This was great! Just to add a couple suggestions, make sure the pins and hair net match your hair color and for layered hair pieces that won't stay down, you can use bobby pins in the center of the bun, as long as they go in at an angle and are hidden!
I have extremely long, thick, and wavy hair and my hair buns always fall out so I was worried about doing my hair for dance since I start ballet in three days. This video helped a lot and now I'm not so worried. The only thing is, I have a TON of fly always and would probably use some hairspray or water.
Use hair wax instead! I use my boyfriend's hair wax, and dip a toothbrush ever so lightly into the jar of wax, and brush my hair and bun with it after having done the whole bun. Just use a little bit and try to have an even coat of hair wax.
This is so helpful! I'm so sick of looking a hot mess during class, finally i can look nice. My baby hairs are out of control but maybe some hairspray can help
So glad! Hairspray can help. Also wetting the hair a little bit and taking a tiny bit of gel mixed with water. That helps smooth things out without giving the hair an overly gelled look. I battle the baby hairs too!
You can also use wax :) Hair wax that comes in a jar is often not that glossy and tends to be stickier so you can basically use a toothbrush, and dip it SUPER LIGHTLY into the jar of wax and then use it to comb down any baby hairs :)
thank you so much I just had my first sirious ballet audition and I got in I have very thin hair and it was very hard for me to get it in to a nice looking bun
This helped me so much! My hair keeps fall down in class and I get in trouble for putting up again :/ After this video my hair didn't fall down! Thank you
Yeah! I could finally tie a ballet bun to ballet class! But how do you rell whether or not your hair is thick or thin? People says I have a lot of hair though.
I'm so glad. Having thick hair definitely makes for more of a challenge, so I hope this will make it easier for you! Thank you so much for the comment!
I was just wondering if we could do this with hair pins because we have to for our recital. Please answer it is in 4 days and I am only ten. Awesome video:)
I have been watching a million bun tutorials because for my dance recital my dance teacher wants us to put our hair in a bun. I never put my hair in a bun, ever, in my life!!! And it no not only does it stop right here, oh no, I have to put a BIG FEATHER IN MY HAIR!!!!???!!!!!!!!!! And I have to put and headpiece over my bun!!! I have to use A LIT OF BOBBYPINS FOR THIS...
instead of using small bobby pins, I use hair pins, and instead of a small toothed comb, I use a wide boars hair brush that is reinforced to get my hair back. It's really a preference. :)
great video! any tips for curly hair? my daughter has long-ish curly hair and the top is so hard to smooth out, plus she has a lot of curly baby hair at her hairline right now (she's four). Should I try gel and the finetooth comb? Tons of hairspray?
That's a good question! My hair definitely has some wave and curl in it, and I get the curls at the hairline as well. If it's just for class, I usually let them go, or wear a wide, cotton headband to keep them back. For performance, though, I would probably suggest wetting the hair (with something like a spray bottle, because you wouldn't want it to soak through), and a good detangler to help get the hair smooth. Then, yes, use the fine tooth comb, and what I usually do is mix gel with some water and apply that all over once it is up (that way it's not too think, and the water helps really get the stray hairs into place). After that, if you need extra hold, you can follow up with some hair spray.
Thank you my daughter is preparing for her grade 1 exam - she has REALLY thick hair - this was very helpful - now to practice - by the end of her lesson her bun has turned to poop as she calls it!
Single dad here with a 5 year old in ballet and this was a HUGE HELP!! THANKS!

Thank you! We had off of dance for a month because of nationals and we returned yesterday!

OHH! I've been a ballet mum for years, and never thought to wrap the hair net around a few times. I've only put it straight on and pinned it under. Duh. Face palm.
Thank you so much. This really helps without hair spray even!!
You look really pretty with your hair up
Amazing that just a few bobby pins can hold your long and thick hair. Bobby pins never stay in place for me
This is an old trick I have, try hair spraying your booby pins BEFORE you put them in you head. They will stay in all class that way
Paige Wells Brilliant!
popinfresh Do hairpins work for you?

CoolGirlProductions Yes, have to do what works best for you! That's interesting about a boars hair brush. Will have to look into that. :-)
Ballerinas By Night absolutely! there are tons of alternatives, just wanted to let people know in the comments that there are other options too :-)
Very good 👍 iam sunil from Rohini Delhi 👍
Are there any ways that I can tell if my bun is good or not? My hair is kind of short so I tried my best but I’m still not sure if it is very good.
My hair isn't quite long like you and your friends hair but I do have thick hair like you. Will this still work???
Thx we have to wear our hair like this for my dance concert
