I had heard he passed but I was somehow unaware why my friends were so upset… now I know. May he Rest In Peace… Hermey has been my favorite elf all my life…
They (my friends) were probably buzzing about it because they’re all Marvel fans but still. Now I know anyway… I would have loved to meet him and get him to sign my F.H.E (Family Home Entertainment) Rudolph VHS from when I was a baby… and I would have loved to show him photos of my Hermey figure that I had created in ceramics!!! It was back before I’d ever seen Rudolph merch in a store, so I really went out of my way to try to make my Hermey look like something you’d buy as a Christmas decoration… and I was working on making the gift box he was carrying an actual little box to store little trinkets or candy in. Sadly though… someone broke both Hermey and Rudolph when they were on the drying shelves. :(
Growing up Paul was my neighbour! He was a tremendous source of joy throughout my childhood, and he always made my day whenever I ran into him 😊He is sorely missed
I will forever and ever love the original movies till I die and they will never get old, live on Rudolph and all the original classic holiday 🎬 live on!!!🙂🙂
I could not agree more! Especially Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, this movie, characters, songs, stop/animation grew in me as a child, and will live in the child in me forever until it is my time. Blessed are tho the dreams and the imagination of a young child!!! 🎁😇🎈❤️
@@katerinakittycat3849 do you think he ever had assistants and stuff? Like a real dentist office has? Or is it possible that over time he had hired more people to work for him to keep the business thriving? Like you know what I mean? Tbh I imagine him like starting out working alone, and then eventually he'd advertise himself and his business. He ends up making a lot of money, and then he gets partnered with an actual dental place. And so therefore, his company expanding into like a huge corporate dental hospital or whatever it's called.. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up CEO or head dentist of the damn thing. Idk just some random thoughts I guess
Nice guy. Spoke to him on phone when working at computer store back in mid 2000s. He was gracious to answer all my questions about his career. In addition to Hermie, he voiced Spiderman in the late 60s cartoon series.
He was one of the last actors who were voices on Rudolph that were still living. I didn't know he passed away. Jules Bass is still living. Though he was a creator/producer and not a voice.
He says he didn’t get the appeal or popularity. My own thoughts combined with other people I’ve spoken to. Not just the bright, colorful imagery, which is part of it. Not just a simple yet dramatic story, which is part of it. Not just the memorable, tuneful song, which is part of it. For so many of it, it’s the innocence of storytelling. No double-entendres, no snarkinesss, no cynicism, no politics or subtle agendas, no crudeness. Just good, old-fashioned entertainment!!! We need more of this.
I gave him and his son a ride once about 40 years ago. He flew his own airplane and I shuttled them in my old Land Rover from his plane to the hanger at the Hamilton Airshow. I recall him being very nice and personable. I also remember him on This is the Law.
I was delighted to see the voice of Hermie, but got tears when they said he did Spiderman. I just was suddenly a ten year old getting up for Saturday morning cartoons to watch Spiderman and ten AM.
Paul Robert Soles (August 11, 1930 - May 26, 2021) was a Canadian actor and television personality. He led the voice cast in such series as The Marvel Super Heroes (1966), voiced the title character in Spider-Man (1967), and portrayed Hermie in the 1964 television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer; Soles was one of the last surviving participants of the special's voice cast.
Wait.. so he was the last one to go? Out of all the cast members of Rudolph?! Wow.. that's impressive.. and that sucks he died last year. I didn't even realize that. Honestly I would've thought he died like earlier than that but no.. and now realizing it. It's been a year since his death. Well okay.. I know Jules bass wasn't a character in the film but I do know he worked on it and he had died this year. But Paul died first and then bass. Although I might be completely wrong. But still. And I'm just gonna say.. I think Hermie was my favorite character in that special. Idk why that's just how I feel at least his voice actor is in heaven now. RIP Paul soles
When I see this film now it makes me sad knowing that when you grow up the magic is lost knowing it;s only a film. When you are a child you can step into the movie and step into the magic of Christmas!
As others have said he passed earlier this year, May 26, 2021. And he was still working. Did the voice of a goose (apparently) in the show Extroverted. (Haven't seen it.) They mention he was the voice of Spiderman in the '67 - '70 version of the cartoon, but he also was the voice of Bruce Banner in the '66 cartoon The Hulk. This is probably why he was brought in to have a part in the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk. Not the only time he worked in a movie with Edward Norton, having been in The Score in 2001.
it's funny that paul mentioned windsorcon because i happened to have met him there. he signed my copy of rudolph even though when i went up and shook his hand he got my name wrong lol

Sadly we lost Paul Soles this year, thank you Paul for the wonderful memories and may you rest in peace.

He was very funny on his own. Amazing guy.
Aww, so much for him seeing a 100th anniversary.. 😞
Growing up Paul was my neighbour! He was a tremendous source of joy throughout my childhood, and he always made my day whenever I ran into him 😊He is sorely missed
I’m 64 and still enjoy this cartoon.

That's not amazing...🙄
And he died back in may this year. R. I. P to a legend!
Hermie was 84 here. My favorite elf, ever.
May you rest in peace Paul Soles. You're with Rudolph now.
Just found out he died not too long ago.
RIP, good sir. :'(
Loved him as the passenger who falls asleep on Steve Martin's shoulder in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Wait, seriously? I had no idea that was him!
50 years later and he still didn't go to elf practice
XD
Well no because he was too busy with all those dentist appointments

He was voicing Spiderman instead of making Toys

This was nice to see. When I was a kid the holidays didn't fully kickoff until I saw the annual broadcast of Rudolph.
Same here.
God bless you Hermie.. You'll always be loved. RIP Mr. Soles
Aw he loved Billie Mae so sweet
We severely undervalue Canadian talent like this.
What a kind man. I'm glad he's still alive
Nope. He died on May 26, 2021 at *90 years of age.*

@@MyNamesComics, don't have to be rude
I’ve watched Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer every single year for 45 years. My kids too. It’s just not Christmas without it 🦌❄️🎄🎅🏻♥️

He was also the voice of Spider-Man in the 1967 cartoon. This man is 90 and a meme legend!
Fun Fact: Paul Soles made an appearance in The Incredible Hulk in the MCU.
I was delighted to see the voice of Hermie, but got tears when they said he did Spiderman. I just was suddenly a ten year old getting up for Saturday morning cartoons to watch Spiderman and ten AM.

I loved that movie as a child at Christmas time. My children grew up on it as well. Now their kids watch it..
R.I.P. We share a birthday.
Sadly, Paul passed away in May of 2021.
Paul Soles played the pizza store owner in the 2008 The Incredible Hulk movie!
He was also the voice of Spider-Man/Peter Parker from the classic cartoon series from the sixties.

Whoa what a great guy!
Hermie!!!

If all the voice actors get reincarnated for the 100th they will be successful voice actors once again
Awesome!
Now, this won't hurt a bit...
WHY WEREN'T YOU AT ELF PRACTICE?!
Paul Soles voice of the elf and the Amazing Spiderman.
