- The Type 10 is an advanced Japanese main battle tank. It became the 4th-generation military tank that the JGSDF (Japan Ground Self Defense Force) has been equipped with, and boasts significant enhancements in its capability to respond to anti-tank warfare, mobile strikes, special operations force attacks, and other contingencies.
The use of modular components significantly improves the side armor compared to the Type 90. The Commander's Panoramic Sight has been moved to the right and is located at a higher position than the Type 90, giving the commander a wide range of view.
According to a GlobalSecurity report, the vehicle is expected to be armed with a new 120 mm smoothbore gun developed by Japan Steel Works, who also license-produce the Rheinmetall L44 120mm gun for the Type 90 MBT. There is an option for longer barrels of 50 and 55 calibers (L50, L55). The gun will fire newly developed armor-piercing ammunition, but is also compatible with all standard 120 mm NATO ammunition.
The most remarkable characteristic of the Type 10 tank lies in its C4I function (command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence). This can be incorporated into the JGSDF network to enable sharing of information among tanks, as well as connected to the infantry's outdoor computer network "Regiment Command Control System"(ReCS) to facilitate integrated military operations with the infantry troops.

History has shown that small, nimble tanks with a hard-hitting gun are extremely effective against slower, heavier tanks. What Japan is doing with their Type 10 is channeling the T-34/85 ideal of the Red Army during WWII. Low cost=Mass production
Good speed+Agility+numbers=Heavier tanks will become overwhelmed.
I really don't think type 10 would be low coast. Type 10 is one of the most expensive tank in the world.
SuperTomcatAce at $8.4 million a piece, that's not cheap (compared to the PLA's ZTZ-99 which costs $2.6 million, die Bundeswehr / Heer Leopard 2A5 at $5.74 million and the British Army's Challenger 2 which is at $6.3 million (or about £4,217,000). The only real thing that's more expensive (if you include inflation and if you have to build them brand new) is the M1 Abrams, at $8.58 million)

amazing big upgrade to the type 90. Type 10 just incredible what it can do. The armor tech behind must be just as amazing to me.

I haven't heard of a french tank that could do 70km/h in REVERSE. I thought this ability was unique to the Type 10. I did a quick search as well and no, they don't have tanks that can do that.

Badass little tank would give tanks in a higher weight class a run for their money easy.
Looks like a very nimble and capable tank. Much better profile and angling than the Type 90. Slightly surprised the .50 isn't on a RWS, though.
All those who tell it is a copy tank! Most of 3.generation tanks look like each other. So shut up and respect ! Even if it looks like an usual tank, its technology best ever.

The Abrams can't do 70kph in reverse (heck, it can't do that when moving forward due to the governor!), nor can it manipulate it's suspension.
Part of that though is that the Abrams is 32 years older than the Type 10, which only entered service in 2012. While the Abrams was ahead of it's time and is certainly on par in terms of combat performance, the Type 10 has new technologies incorporated into it that give it a definitive edge when moving cross-country.
In terms of armour though, I would not be surprised if they are about the same, due to the modular nature of the Type 10's armour leaving doubts on it's performance.
However, we will not be able to fully compare the two vehicles until the Type 10 has seen some form of combat.
CXVII MMDLII Also Abrams was by far the most inefficient tank the turbine constantly running even on a stop it required 500 gallons of fuel and was unreliable and did poorly in starting in cold weather also can't go through rivers or water deeper than the hull

Type10:日本製 44口径120mm滑腔砲 RHA:548mm
Tpye10はType90よりも攻撃力が上昇しているが、それでも他国の主力戦車よりも攻撃力が低い。これは対歩兵戦において機動性を優先したセッティングが成されているからである。
ただし、将来的に対戦車戦に投入する場合は55口径120mm戦車砲に換装可能なよう設計されている。
つまりType10は55口径に換装するだけで世界戦車ランキング10位→1位を獲得できるポテンシャルを秘めているのである。

Light, fast, agile, and with a 120mm smoothbore gun? Nice. I want to know how fast they can fire. I also want to know how they would perform against moving targets while they are on the move. Love the sounds though. Needs more horsepower.
The auto-loader gives it some 12 RPM. Next version should have more. It has hydropneumatic active suspension, inherent gun stabilizer and some of the best on-board digital fire computers. Indeed, it needs some more HP.

The best tank would be putting a 710hp Diesel engine in a m4a3e8 sherman and giving it 97mm armor all around and giving it a 105mm gun in a turret. Also reinforced suspension, transmission, top hull and wide tracks and 10speed gearbox. Also Carry 45 Rands of 105mm. 20AP 25HVAP. Also also on sind newer Sights And even a very quiet exhaust pipe.

well, the problem is what if it gets hit? 105mm shells can easily penetrate 97mm of armor, hell even 400mm of armor, that tank would be only good as a Fire Support Vehicle...
Ever imagine if one day that thing got an APS like Trophy?
The acceleration seems somewhat sluggish but once it picks up speed it looks to be quite fast and the rate of fire is impressive for an autoloader.
