I'm from Belgium, but I live in Karlsruhe, Germany. I was saddened by your choice of Belgium as an unfriendly country, but I must admit that, despite my memory telling me that this wasn't the case in the 70's and 80's, today's Belgium is probably not a friendly country anymore. France, I get. It's been smug and unpleasant as far as I remember. Germany's Baden Wurtemberg, on the contrary is to me one of the friendliest place I have ever found. But the absolute worst to me was French Caribbean. Also pretty low on my list was Turkey, namely Istanbul. And the best of the best is Japan... It's extraordinarily polite, helpful, honest, and respectful. There's simply no word good enough to describe my experience in Japan...❤️❤️❤️

And Istanbul is an interesting one because many of the locals seem friendly from the outset, but many of them are looking to scam you and/or are jealous of tourists, so I can see that one! I made a Danish friend on the underground in Copenhagen. I was trying to hide my beer, and he said you're allowed to drink as long as it's not shit beer. I showed him the beer, and he said "That's shit beer". Then had a chat with him about his life, and what to do in Malmo while his family looked on in mild amusement. Also I transmitted through Paris recently, two people helped me out on the metro. Once, pointing me out to the right platform when I asked (right train, wrong platform), and when a guy pointed to which door was opening. But they do have a stereotype, for sure.
Ahahahahahh what a legendary danish guy ahahha 😂 I think they do have a good sense of humour, even if they may seem “peculiar” ahahah. And it’s nice to know that there are helpful and friendly people taking the Paris metro ahahhah

Luxembourg was the worst by far. Snotty and sarcastic. France has some stereotypically unfriendly people but they seem to be a minority and we met some truly nice people there too. As for Germany, been to Cologne and Freiburg and found very friendly people in both. Frankly I found it to be one of the more pleasant countries. Belgians are reserved but if you need help they go out of their way for you. The Dutch, OTOH seemed a bit grumpy. Like you, I have a lot more countries to check out.

I was in Brussels, Belgium on a day trip and I had just arrived at the centre. For some reason I can't recall anymore I wanted to know what the time was, no watch or mobile phone around, so I had the idea of asking someone on the street. I tried to stop some guy at his late 30s and while he was walking, he never actually stopped, listening to me asking for the time in English, he outburst with an explicit rage of anger murmering something in French and he instantly stormed off. I was really shocked but I tried to justify the event by seeing that the centre was already packed with immigrants and he may have thought that I was one more of them asking for who-knows-what... Anyway, this incident made me think twice about interacting with locals there again. Another time, I was somewhere in the depths of France. I was at a store where there was a lady who was helping people with their purchases. When it was my turn, I showed to her my stuff to buy and as I desired to communicate more properly with her, then that I was already in command of the italian language, I tried to figure out my way to a French structured question. So, these words came out of my mouth : Est-ce que je peux avoir une confection de cadeau? I knew at the moment that this "confection" coming as an instant translation from the Italian was too risky to dare but I took the shot anyway. She was outright petrified, turned her frowning eyes right onto me and said with an acid, high-maintenance voice stressing each syllable separetely: pa-pier ca-deau. Another time, some years before that, I arrived at the Orly Airport and I was wondering if there were any carriege trolleys around to use. I spotted a man of the airport security standing aside doing nothing more than watching around and I asked politely: Excuse me sir, do you happen to know if... and he instantaneously responded "Tout a fait". I thought that something went wrong so I tried to take it again from the start. "Tout a fait". Again. Tout a fait, tout a fait.... tout a fait. Soon I realised that he was just mocking me and I felt I had no other chance than to threw to his face a nice Greek embellishing sentence of pride, as I did and then I stormed off. What an @ssh.. On the other hand, during my spending some time in Budapest, Hungary there were 3 at least cases of people that offered me a ride without me even asking them. They went on to make the offer all by themselves just in order to help me out.

@@TravellingWithCon Faro is the city we arrived to. People are polite, educated & multilingual. The city is more like a big museum if you into that but if you want to have fun & get the most go to Albufeira & Lagos. People are very will mannered & the shoreline is something else.
Austria/Oesterreich is a wonderful tourism area, and we've lots of immigrants from the east too. We're so welcoming to everybody! The people are very open/liberal and friendly usually, especially in the South and West! Don't judge a country by a short impression! I lived in the US and it took me quite a while to adjust in the beginning. There is always a little bit of a culture shock!

So Austria the opposite of Denmark. In Denmark if you stay only some days or a fortnight it can be quiet pleasant... But as soon as you start living there or staying longer you'll get depressed and only want to leave (Why you think Denmark is the countries with the highest use of psycho drugs?).

Her first phrase can be understood as both a question and a statement in both english and danish, it just comes down to the tones you use, and it's the same tones for danish and english, so definitely not a language or culture barrier on her part, you were just ignoring her.
Ahaha I will have to disagree - I am English and I definitely understand the difference between “you’ve booked for 2 nights” vs “you’ve booked for 2 nights?? ahahhahah. I can assure you, the woman said “you’ve booked for 2 nights” in the most standard monotone ‘statement-esque’ manner without any change of tone in her voice whatsoever. To me that sounded like a clear statement!

To me its Switzerland. Especially the Swiss German speaking part. It just didnt seem to be really welcoming. Yes, they do like your money, but thats about it. I feel there is a lot of hidden xenophobia. The absolutely most welcoming country to me has been Israel, 100 %. I am German so I thought I will receive a lot of hate towards me, but omg, I have been invited to Shabbat diners, met my boyfriend on that trip, so many nice conversations, fantastic food and scenery, very liberal attitude of many people in Tel Aviv. I am so in love with Tel Aviv. Its my spiritual place.

And yes, it would be best to avoid that region until they found a solution. Even Tel Aviv had a Drone attack recently, it used to be a very safe city.

I do social experiments to understand the attitude of the people, so I visited some of the night clubs in Munich and Vienna known for racist behaviour as per various reviews. But I have had a positive experience.
Interesting that you found people friendlier in the part of Spain that was ruled by Muslims for centuries, and the grumpier people in the christian north. I wonder why.
