cant wait to play this game with my grandkids and remind them the good ol days when i was hyped on the alpha 2 beta test
Yes 😂
This is so funny I almost fell off my dinosaur...
Game won't be out for 3 more years. By then society will have changed even more with many more choices, probably Xbox Z and PS6. This game doesn't have much chance even though it looks decent now.
@@HermannTheGreatThis comment makes no sense... That means this would apply to any game in development lol
@@MixMeister5000wish I had a dinosaur to fall off 😢
I'm loving the armors in the game. Not over the top and look like something a sane person might wear. No butt capes. No strobe light shoulder pads as wide as a Buick.
Star Wars Galaxies did cities in a great way, way back in 2003. It's nice to see cities being attempted again with new ideas.
Back in SWG a player would have to pursue the politician profession to become a Mayor, winning elections would generate xp to unlock different abilities for the mayor to use with the city.
They'd start a city by buying a City Hall from an Architect and placing it, then you'd have to grant a bunch of players zoning rights to place their own houses, also crafted by architects.
Player houses could have vendors in them, and the mayor could charge taxes to generate income for the city to maintain some service buildings like a cloning center (respawn), medcenter, bar, shuttle ports, garages, all the services players would need.
As your city grew with more players you could choose better bonuses for that city, like improved crafting rolls or better payouts for missions from that town.
That game was so ahead of it's time, and it never got iterated on. That was like first pass mechanics. SWG should be mined by modern MMO devs for base ideas that they could spice up and flesh out for an even better game.
AoC cities sound like a really great idea. Now if only someone did crafting/resources the way SWG did...
😊
they ned to bring back SWG
@@unknownv8462 SWG needs a sequel made by people who understand SWG and have ideas on how to iterate it into a more accessible game without compromising on the spirit of the game.
@Gibblets411 just so you know they did an artisan announcement for the foraging/processing/crafting system and SWG was referenced twice as the inspirations behind certain mechanics
Watching Asmon deal with being a mayor would be content for sure lol.

I was a bit sceptical back in alpha 1 but holy shit, look at the progress they've made since then. Node system looks very promising and last showcase with the cleric update shown us a combat that actually looks like a playable game. Now I'm kinda excited about Ashes of Creation

I'm even more so now... To many spells, to many classes, the pvp is going to be unbalanced so hard. I see the macros coming lmao
Realistic economy and the building aspect are all huge appeals to me. I'll definitely give it a try when it comes out. It will be interesting to see if it ever has a chance to be a major player in the MMO space.
Albion Online. Thank me later.

@@sassario5459 after 3k hrs of albion i can wholeheartedly say that the game is trash.
Now I cope on Ashes, surely it will do better
I tried Albion, and I love Albion Online. But I also don't like the toxic experience of a full loot PvP environment. It sounds amazing until you actually experience it.
Too many times with that game, I sit down to have a good time and then wind up facing feelings of frustration, anger, and loss over a game when I'm ganked in an unfair fight.
I conceded it's not my cup of tea, though it is an incredible system at its core. So I admire Albion from a distance, but don't play. Plus, I got tired of paying for Premium.

Looking forward to seeing the different themes based on races. Im really looking to go wood elf and just have a chill life in the woods farming, crafting and trading/selling to other nodes or traveling players. Living in a moderate sized wood elf town
That is until the nearby guild buys out the village in order to expand their own territory in an attempt to monopolize the entire continent! 😅

What would be really cool is if the choices of the node could effectively create Factions or even "good vs evil" allegiances.
For example, you could have a Node that aligns itself with the evil world bosses and can help defend them.
It would create an amazing and shifting dynamic faction system

I remember playing "Rend" game and this kind of system where you build and defence our own colony was really great.
Hyped !
The donation system to build construction is similar to Warframes - It’s a good system.
housing system quite similar to Star Wars Galaxies (2003). It had a completely revolutionary housing/town system for the time. With it's whole ecosystem & professions, mayors, voting rights etc. Happy to see this

Prison Node is a neat idea, I played an MMO a long time ago where pvping flagged you for arrest by town guards. You couldnt leave the prison until your sentence time was carried out, was usually for an hour or so. had a visiting room where free players could come see the incarcerated players, people even found ways to smuggle items into the prison lol. There was also a room full of rocks on one sice and grinders on the other, you had to move the rocks to the grinders and you would be slowed down, each rock you grinded reduced your sentence, and the rocks could be stolen by other players trying to reduce their own sentences... it was actually pretty awesome, there was even a quest you had to go to prison to do.
the visual identity will be recognizable when you play the game. That's how it is for every game.
indeed, older mmos are recognizable cause there old, everyone knows there look.
No, Visual identity is something you have to get just by looking, thats what asmon meant by that and he's right. You look at at WoW you get it. even if you didnt play a lot.
devs, you can add a evil type of node now, lots of ideas that Asmon talked there
It seems like this was built for dad gamers, and as a 38 yr old dad I can get behind that 🤣
I think node currency is a good idea because it offers an incentive for the people of the node to thrive in their specialized area i.e. warriors node/science node/mercantilism node as to increase the long-term value of that node's currency. I do think that long-term value is a worry for the node currency, but at the end of the day, the threat of that currency becoming non-valuable over time is looming and should exist so that the people of the node push to make their node popular for one reason or another. Interestingly, this model makes sense in real life, on a international scale, and existed on a local scale 1000 or so years ago. Gives the game the medieval feeling. Then again, having your node's currency be less valuable may not be a problem that persists so long as the people of the node push to have their node become more and more popular. It certainly adds a unique aspect to the game economically and is DEFINITELY better than Albion Online's economic system as that system collapsed early in the game due to the ability to buy in-game currency with real money. Obviously, that is not an issue for Ashes and should add depth to the game. When I look at early warframe, this system of node currency reminds me of the guild-owned planets and how the materials fluctuated in value based on the taxes on said materials from the specific guild-owned planets. That game was insanely fun in that way as it introduced the idea that mercenaries would fight for guilds and try to take over the other planets and reduce the tax in order to re-align the value of the materials. I am excited for this aspect in that same way.
As a Winstead, I will own that node.
Warframe has a similar system to this. Every guild gets a home base where members contribute to the building of new things in the base. It worked pretty well for my guild because the guild master would give pretty good rewards for the people who donated the most.
When you only watch the gameplay videos you miss a lot of information.

I am pretty sure they have talked about transmog items. I hope there are cool skins as a boss drop in an area. Or an accessory like wings, horns, tentacles, or spikes
You could also make the sacrifice as a sort of vote system but make it a reward instead of punishment, like players of that node select a player to sacrifice, permanently deleting that players character but that player is reincarnated at lvl 1 with a permanent stat boost. give sacrifice slots per capita of that node.
Giving me SWG vibes, MadSeason is gonna love this
It's depressing to think that SWG did this better in 2003. Really makes you see how stagnant MMOs have been since WoW dumbed down the genre.
One big server completely misses one of the main points of nodes. Each server is supposed to evolve differently based on how nodes progress. Meaning you can go to one server and experience a different world.
Part of the part of the point is you area will updste and the oldest houses will update and grow. But there only so many cities so. For another place to update they haft to attack its neibors
In the shard i used to play Ultima Online, there used to be a prison, so the world had a faith system and priests had an imprisonment spell, the order of Law (so the real players cops of the server) could then imprison you if you were a criminal (robed people, killed people, etc). While in prison you would remain in a cell for time calculated according to your wrongdoings, i seen player with over 1 year jail time (one real time year). You could be broken out though, you could get a band of people together and break into the prison, that would be in the bottom of the Wrong dungeon and bust you out. It was such a fun system....
This game looks very beautiful and smooth to play, cant wait to try it once it fully releases.
As if a game where less than 1% of the players can be mayor of a village and regulate taxes would ever take off. Also this city is obviously handcrafted as a showpiece. Player run towns will look like crap and be an assortment of houses and crafting stations, without all the additional cosmetics that have been plopped down in that Potemkin village.
If you actually watched the livestream video of what being a Mayor entails, more than likely will be a fraction of players that actually want to do that job. What this video also doesn't tell you is how the process of constructing buildings actually functions and that you can't just build only x type buildings without citizens actually supporting it. They need to contribute and support the construction for it to work or else it doesn't get built.
Why would you want a game where more then 1% of players could be a mayor?
again , if u watched the video you would of actually knew that a lot if not most of the mayor jobs and acitivites will require the players"citizens" for them to work so a mayor will most likely be nothing without the support of the players
16:53 Mega Server does not work in a SandPark or Sandbox style MMO where players own land in the Open world that is not instanced. That along with about 50 other reasons is why Mega server just doesn't work at all for a game like Ashes.

Fyi the node currency is generic. So whatever node currency you earn at node #1 will also be usable at another node. There can be reputation requirements in order to use that currency at any given node, though
The thing about having cheaters and the like serve their sentence in-game is that I don't think any company or dev will tolerate some breaking their ToS (especially cheating) still play their game, and I don't think they would risk allowing a cheater to access the game and probably cheat again or cause further harm.
People are forgetting that the game has Elections where ANYONE can sign up to run for votes, it's not just one guy running it forever, you can also lay siege to a City and take it by force.
I really hope there's a decent nomadic / survivor option that doesn't necessarily require being part of a community. I like to roam around and be part of different communities just a little bit.
I wouldn't count on it. They've been pretty consistent on their stance that AoC will require involvement in the community and you're expected to be a participating member of a node. That being said, there may be a node that specializes in goods that appeal to your playstyle and allow you to contribute while still remaining pretty nomadic.
You can, its going to be brutal but you could do your own thing, maybe even be a part of a small bandit clan with your friends and just spend your days hijacking valuable resources from guild caravans on trade routes lol.
@@temposloth Actually there is no such thing as a ''participating member of a node'' While you gain XP within a node, the node itself gets experience, so there are no tasks that you are helping others with to level up the node per say, so everyone no matter if they are expected to be a participant or not will help level up the node. also as you said there are a lot of different types of nodes,
Economic - Trade and Merchant Focuses
Military - Combat and Class Training Focuses
Scientific - Artisan and Construction Focuses
Divine - Faith, Skill, and Equipment Augment Focuses
There could be a node that has a coliseum type battle tournament for amazing prizes or prestiege, a last man standing tournament that only one person can win.
the playstyles in this game are so vast that he is bound to find something to do that is appealing to him.

I saw a mission where you had to escort a caravan once a year ago I believe, so it's probably you can't teleport with resources. Which in my opinion is good cause you have to worry about pvp. And not just put your entire house in your inventory and boom you're in the next city that has 0% tax rates.

@@Synkronist its like albion online i doubt it will be as hardcore as albion though u lose ur items on death in that game and like 30% of the items break and cant be used no more
I don't think people realize that nodes support the playerbase. The mayor gets control over how the citizens of the node get benefits, but the mayor does not get to pocket the money made from taxes. That money goes to the node.
Now, mayors would be able to manipulate taxes to their benefit, like dropping the taxes before they make a big purchase. But they cannot specifically profit from other people's taxes.
The problem with megaserver is that one of the games sellingpoints is that servers will be different, depending on what nodes are unlocked etc.
3:01 no, but you can have a weapons factory, start a war between your node and another node and then sell weapons to both parties

Visual identity is much more important than people think. It's not just about being pretty to please players, it's about being recognized just by looking at a photo or watching a video and immediately associating it with the game. I don't even need to hear the ad guy to know that the commercial before the video is about Albion Online, the style of the game is remarkable and easy to identify, and games like that are easier to advertise.

In the Spirit Relics MMORPG design, it is going to build up to a crime and law system that will allow players to be imprisoned or tortured if you are a member of a settlement that has a court building. The time and severity of the punishment can occur based on counts of crime the player is CORRECTLY claimed against, meaning the player has committed those crimes. So you could be caught for theft, but get away with murder or vice versa. With incorrect claims, and overly severe punishments cause debuffs to settlements and monster attraction, as they lose favor with the gods of order. So players should strategize their claims based on a mix of truth, hidden or real, and the risks.
As for the mask made of a player's face, there will be black market systems that will allow trade in origin settlements where some activities are normalized, but will count as crimes when sold and bought in other settlements, if set by founders, or by vote depending on the settlement settings. I can't wait to make a video about it.
There will also be a segment on cults, bounties, and how these all tie into each other. I can't wait to make this video, episode 5 is coming in a few weeks, but these specific episodes are probably going to be sometime after episode 6.
Dear lord, please let them cook.
i am so excited about asmons gaming outfit when listening to this brainstorming!
holy shit your sacrifice rant made me giddy. also in regards to the cannon, you would want them alive and conscious which prolly not easy to get someone conscious into a cannon, so you should put them into giant sacks i think would be good.
31:24 I'ma be honest. Kinda wild to me that Steven didn't think to try right-clicking to buy something from a vendor.
I think visual identity is really important because it can also open up new avenues for monetization outside of micro transactions.
I’m sure WoW sold a fuck ton in merch and I don’t think it’s a big step to assume the Merch wouldn’t have sold as much if it lacked that visual identity.
They should make it for RP purposes that you can actually add like.. having your character always walk/run like an old man, or add a limp to your walk which you cannot get rid of for x-hours of playing time.
By the time this game comes out, Asmon will have beaten ffxiv and baldur's gate 3
On this visual identity thing, it's going to be hard for them to nail it down when the entire point is that all the different races and choices in node XP are going to influence the outcome of the aesthetics of the towns/cities.
This was NOT a node system stream. It was a village (aka Nodes 3) demo stream. They didn't show Nodes 4 or 5 or even demo how the nodes system works in general. It's been 2+ years since they showcased villages in Alpha 1. They've made improvements, but this is two years worth of progress? Added more tall grass, increased graphics due to engine upgrade and added some scripted npc's? So at this pace the game will release in 10 years.
Asmon talking about Executions. I will add to it and a steal a bit from George Carlin.:
" I’d be in favor of bringing back beheadings!! Huh? Beheadings on TV, slow-motion, instant replay? And maybe you could let the heads roll down a little hill. And fall into one of five numbered holes. Let the people at home gamble on which hole the head is going to fall into. "
People are acting like these things have never been done in an MMO before. Star Wars Galaxies had this feature in 2003. You could have a town, a mayor, a city council, a bank, townhall, guildhalls and players could have their own houses. Nothing was instanced and it always stayed there until the city owner decided to remove it. I miss that game and wish there was a more modern take on it. It also had a player driven economy where you would have crafters create all these items and list them on a bazar for money. There were master crafters in food, medicine, weaponry, armour and even droids and tamed creatures. And they crafted these items with resources that spawned in the persistent world. Things like steel, iron, copper, even food recipes needed their own resources.

I think its Middle-Eastern in origin, it'd be like a safe place at a crossroads on like the Silk or Jade road/trading routes where people could safely trade goods without fear of getting attacked/robbed. Fantasy games do better when they look at real history!
should add positive boon from bless of higher power or no boon maybe in negative in other way around...for any towns.
this game reminds me of everything that Chronicles of Elyria was supposed to be
this will be a nieche MMO with 20-30k players, no casual will play this.
except that there are already 500 thousand registered accounts for ashes waiting to play this game since 2020. so joke's on you i guess
And still this is going to be an MMO like other MMO only people who like MMO will play,
Example wow get 50k on new expansion realse then it drops half ors even less
The wind blowing isn't in sinc with the cloak and the grass I've noticed, they need to work on that
"You have 5479 years to build this building."
I think like 5 servers would be better then 1. Not too many but 5 so people can have good pings ect. Game looks great
the windy affect on the cape needs to be dialed back a little when not moving and walking
Yaasss, coming through with the uploads 🔥 always got your vids playing before i go to sleep 😆
