lately I’ve just been focusing so hard on fundamentals and being critical of my own work that I’ve pushed almost all the fun out of it but this helped me realize what I want to make and that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Great advice all in all , thank you Ethan and sinix

I relate this this. Just studying anatomy and perspective and looking at all the other fundamentals left to learn and I actually feel like I’m developing slower than when I just drew fanart and learnt as I went XD need to find that middle-ground somehow...
Eriko. Oy true that. Personally for me I fucking suck with drawing things like environments and vehicles, but those are the two things I’m working on right now. When I decided to do something I personally like (obv characters) I find that I really enjoy it and I want to be more creative. I may get to something I want eventually

Step one: sketch any idea absolutely from your head, and when you're done, realize all your mistakes and bad proportions.
Step two: draw it again using references to make your cool idea look good.

yeah if you wanna draw to have fun and replenish motivation and do what you truly wanna do and express go fucking wild til you develop enough motivation to start practicing your fundamentals and improve, and in studues you have to REFERENCE thats what he means when he says never draw from imagination
Thank you Sinix and Ethan, you always reach out to the community and are a joy to watch. With that being said, I think there is more to the "how to ungive up" question.
Finding or telling yourself "don't give up, (because if you do) then that means you don't really want it, do you?" Can be pretty harmful, as a person who actually experienced that, it's not that you run out of inspiration, you just don't act on it. It's not that you don't want it so much, it's the toxic misconceptions about yourself and art that are keeping you from doing it.
It's a mental battle, and a tough one too, I'm only saying this for the students (lol), that hear these kinds of advice and then fall deeper into dispair. You can bounce back, but it doesn't start from practicing art, but from fixing your own ideas about how a creative process should look like and reshape it, you'll be surprised what toxic or unreasonable things you were convincing yourself were correct or true.
Then: NEVER Draw From Imagination!

I really appreciate that last piece of advice. I’m 24 and i feel like i just forced myself into burning out, and wasted most of my time, no pictures i can even be happy about. I regret it a lot but now i can get better.
Whoa... I needed this. I've been struggling for art for like a decade. It's never really gotten anywhere or progressed, and that's because I lost the passion. I felt that every time I picked up a pencil I had to be studying anatomy, or how to render, or most of the time I just didn't know what to draw because anything I thought of "I couldn't draw".
Recently I just started doodling for the sake of it, and it helped me overcome the anxiety of creating. But I've gone back to the fear because I'm over analysing my work. "It should look better", "I need to be studying how to add colour properly", "I'm making mistakes and not learning from them!".
So to hear Sinix say to develop the passion first to fill your resource tank is so liberating. I've been so focused on how bad I am that I never really allowed myself to succeed.

this video actually conforted me, I've been in an artschool for 2 years now and Im just so burnout with classes and fundamentals and tasks I lost interest in actually creating things for myself... u guys are so gentle and nice. Your channel is amazing thank you... btw waffles win obviously
The last point about fun really spoke to me. I used to draw so much because it was fun and I didn’t care about how „right“ it was, but then I took a year long break and when getting back into it thought I should start with fundamentals, but that didn’t give me the same passion for art.
Now I focus more on my ideas and pretty colors and see which fundamentals I lack to bring them to paper and it’s slowly balancing each other out.

I think I get that, about feeling so motivated that learning more about the fundamentals and doing studies inspires you, you want to do it, rather than you need to to improve. I'm no professional, I'm just a kid, but recently I've been really focusing on taking my art to the next level (thanks a lot to your videos Ethan, they really showed me what my next step should be) and you know, all of a sudden, I wasn't in the mood to do a random doodle, or a picture from my head, I felt excited to take a picture from life and study it and break it down, I don't know what it was, it just felt good.
Waffles are better because their squares hold more syrup, butter, or whatever without getting soggy.

3 weeks ago I could barely draw a stick figure and it looked pretty broken, i always wanted to put my ideas on paper,with the help of your videos, and alot of daily practice and sinx videos ect. Also would like to comment on ethans point in the beginning, I think Ethan is a more reliable teacher because he is kind of strict, he doesn't allow shit art or anything like that, and even though I didn't like ethan at first he is the perfect strict teacher unlike the other ones that will just spoil you when you fail, so he really challenges me to be better and I think it is the thing that keeps me here unlike other channels
