Yes we get wins under Southgate but that seems to be down to the quality of our players forcing the result and not from any form of tactical mastery. We’ll never win this tournament with that starting back 4 - no way in hell that team can defend against some of the top teams and not concede 3/4. So much promise in attacking areas but so short defensively.

The problem here isn’t about the team, it’s having too much high expectations for a team to be perfect. Being higher up in the rankings than another team doesn’t mean they’ll just overpower them and it’s the problem with public perception. Even smaller teams can surprise you without you expecting it. Look what happened to Germany and Spain in the World Cup, people expected them Japan to lose badly because they ranked below those two countries but in retrospect, they didn’t, they beat them out of the World Cup stages. Manchester city was suppose to be the favorites of FA cup against United, but look what happened, overconfidence got the best of them and even leverkusen, everyone expected an easy win or even a treble against Atalanta, a team below the 10th rankings in the serie A but they outplayed them. I’m not English, but the fact is : people have to stop holding higher standards or expectations of their teams to be perfect or else the pressure on them gets too much into their heads and it jumbles their game. Argentina lost matches against Saudi Arabia, a team way below them in the rankings and they also lost to Uruguay in the qualifiers. You can’t be holding teams into a higher bar, you have to let them try their best and see what happens or else this animosity of blaming will get people nowhere.
