Did you know that we can use the illustrations in our children's books not just to tell our story visually, but to also take it to a completely new level -- for the kids that are reading our book, AND also for the grown ups that read our book WITH them?
That's what this video is all about - visual techniques we can use for our children’s book to help it stand out and to take our beautiful book to the next level.

You are such a gem Eevi! So glad I discovered your channel and website/s. After 50 years of writing mainly for adults, I am now experimenting with writing and illustrating children's books, which I started doing by hand 20 years ago when I voluntarily ran the local library's children's storytime sessions. I've had so much great information from your videos. Thanks heaps!!

Thank you for sharing your insights. Your videos are always clear, concise, informative and helpful. I'm no illustrator, not by a long shot, but I do appreciate learning about those who do.

Cute, really tasteful the seven techniques and your understanding of children's idiosyncrasies. Esp when they are old souls, little children can be so inspiring. Your presentation somehow reminds me of my niece -- by now she has three little boys of her own. It is said that children who design the sun in their own drawings are happy. My niece, as a little girl, more than once drew a landscape with four suns :)

I loved your tips and am in the process of putting some of them to work. I am sooooo excited! I just have one question -- where do you tell the readers about the hidden things to look for? Or do readers automatically know to look for these? Anyway,, I am looking forward to using these.

I'm so happy to hear this, Martha! And you can do it either way! In "The Little Critter" or "Goodnight Gorilla" books, readers aren't prompted to find these items. My video on worksheets and coloring pages has a few suggestions as to where to place such things. I went ahead and copied the link to that video right here. Good luck! ua-cam.com/video/57WmuNXd3TA/v-deo.html

Thank you, Eevie, for these great tips. They are so small yet so powerful and fun! I'm working on illustrations right now so it's a great time to tilt my creative hat more directions to see what I can come up with. Your videos are so instructive!

I love the process. Now I will push this concept farther. I also have a question. Do you have a video or suggestion on how to make a video read-aloud of your book as the pages flip from spread to spread? I want my voice to be reading my book.@@EeviJones

Drat, I'd thought of doing three of the things you did. I thought I had "new ideas" but now I cannot use them, I could be seen as copying, which isnt good. Thing is I'd thought of those 3 years ago, like find a character from the story on each page. Ho hum. Back to the drawing board.

      Hi Jessie,
I shared these for inspiration. Mercer Mayer, for example, used this as early as 1975. As long as we're using our own characters and our own story lines, we can incorporate all sorts of fun ideas for our little readers.
