Just a tip when cleaning your chain, always turn the wheel so that where you are wiping, the chain ifs travelling away from the rear sprocket. Even just turning the rear wheel by hand, if your hand gets dragged in between chain and sprocket you are going to hurt yourself!
I've been using ACF50 for a few years and it's amazing stuff. But the best £57 I ever spent was on the pet dryer which gets all the moisture of and just for good measure I run the bike upto temperature on the side stand. DON'T waster your money on a bike dryer as if you look closely it the same unit but without out biker dryer on it 🤣🤣
Great vid and advice, looks like you were under a bit of time pressure though to get the spraying done on the day and left part of your rear wheel exposed to the blow off from the gun. The sheets are great for this but just to double up a little tip would be to wrap the tyres in cling film so as to avoid any over spray or vapour settlement getting on them 👍🏻
I've been doing exactly the same for years. This system works, end of. I also do this mid season as the bikes look amazing after and as you importantly said, a thorough clean give you the opportunity to get to check the bike as you go. Great video 👌
You should also mention that ACF-50 is quite thick and does need warming up. The best way is to immerse the spraying container in a vessel of fairly warm water for about 20 minutes to make the ACF-50 more runny and sprayable
Nice video, well presented, but Im shocked that the health of your bike is more important than the health of your lungs !!!!!!. Also, using a spray gun means most of the ACF50 goes everywhere but on the bike .
Interesting. I have recently bought a brand new suzuki vstrom 800DE and want to ride through winter so looking for the best ways to protect from salt etc. I already have a workshop compressor so for this I would only need to buy a spray gun, some product and a motorcike dryer.
I used to commute through the winter and used to paint ACF50 on to unpainted metal, chromed bits and bolt heads etc with a stiff brush. Also sprayed it inside my frame tubes. I did used to find that road grime seemed to stick to it a bit though - but rather have that than corrosion. Never liked the smell of the stuff though - but it looks like you do!
Cracking video mate. Really appreciate it and I'll 100% follow your advice on the ACF / pet dryer combo - I need to use my bike 365 ( minus icey days). Great content - appreciate you putting it together
watch this video again your self how you clean your chain, you are seconds away from losing your fingers mate. you should always do the opposite. I couldnt watch!!!!
That bike (pet😂) dryer looks exactly like the one I bought for £50👍 I had "proper" bike dryer lined up for £95 which looked very similar but they're both just hot/cold air blowers, right? I use a product called Corrosion Block, also made by Lear Chemicals who make ACF50. It's maybe slightly more viscous, still sprayable and is made for the saltwater marine industry. I give all my bikes the treatment from new and maintain it. Why is the plating on nuts, bolts and fasteners so CRAP on just about every make of bike you care to mention? You leave the showroom on your nice, shiny new model and a couple of weeks of unprotected, wet weather riding can have it looking very second hand indeed. As you say, no need to stop riding in Winter if you're prepared to take some preventative measures and keep on top of cleaning.👍 I've just bought some XCP rust blocker spray to try so I'll see how that compares
I used ACF with the squirty bottle year one, used a compressor year two onwards... compressor was like using a cheat mode in a game, ridiculously easy! I did use about 10% of what you used though! 😅😅 I did bag up the hand controls too as I didn't want those to become slippy! I ride my bikes every week of the year and they're rust free. Just don't wash them through the salty months. Lightly rinse the crap off and the ACF stays put.
Nice vid. You forgot to mention that it will smoke like hell when you start it up immediately after ACF50 treatment. Not a problem but it can look spectacular to passers by.
Lucky for us, here in Australia we don't have to worry about salty roads and general dank weather you guys experience there. Every vehicle that features on youtube that's in the UK has rust and corrosion issues. Over here, the worst it gets is if you nearly on the coastal fringe and beachside suburbs. That's it. I purchased a motorcycle from a guy who lived in a beachside area and there was significant amounts of corrosion and degradation. Wish he knew of ACF-50. I have spent the last 12 months sourcing NOS bits to replace any compromised pieces and am confident that I'll bring it back to mint condition. I have placed an order for some ACF-50 and hope to start using it from here on in.
You are right XCP does come out top and I have had that sprayed onto my KTM Duke once by All Year Biker, that I mention in the video, but it is quite thick and leaves a bit of a nasty film on the bike that I didn't like, so I went back to ACF 50. Each to their own I suppose, but ACF 50 has always been good enough for me. Cheers for the comment👍
@@TheBoltHoleBiker XCP Rust Blocker is thicker, but it only needs a light application. However, XCP Clear Coat is a lot thinner, and a lot harder to see, not leaving a noticable film. ACF is very good, but it stays more liquid, so tends to run off more vertical surfaces quicker.
Ducatti-when you've got a bike that sweet. I've sen some horrible rust bubbles and holes under bikes. Get down and get under it. Someone else recommended spray wax. Being a poor remter, I don't have a garage.
Have just watched a video on here by Stuart Fillingham and he is testing out a new product aimed at motorcycle protection......Jenolite wax oil spray in aerosol form, has a strong anti corrosion additive and when applied forms a thin coating, so not messy. the big thing is it reckons to last much much longer than ACF50 because a few wash downs and it's protection has about gone where as this does not wash off so easily with soapy water or indeed spray of your wheels from the road. Motorcycles have been my only form of transport throughout my life and in the winter months my chosen ride is my Suzuki GS850 and Squire sidecar so am going to try this new product.
I just use CRC 5.56 Multi purpose spray. And it is Safe to anodize or powder coated aluminium components. And dont spray it directly, I spray it on and dampen a microfibre. And it dont orsve greasy fim.
Very good! My friends will ask how I can ride year round with out rust problems, it's a secret, and can treat your bike for $1000 bucks. This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks, Matt
you know what that stuff is made off ? cant find anything about the actual chemical compounds or "fluids" that are mixed into this ... what i find concerning is that you spray that unknown stuff all over your bike, your garden, house, lungs did you ever find out whats in this stuff ? lets hope there is no ptfe or anything out of that family ...
I would wipe those tyres down with prepsol or a wax and grease remover to get any ACF50 off the tyres, use a filtered respirator when using a spray gun, that shit will not be good for your lungs.
The ACF 50 was designed for use in internal areas on things like airframes ,not exposed external areas . The stuff appears to work as the bikers that use it are fussy & clean their lube their bikes regular anyway . The ACF 50 like fancy chain lube is hyped up to bikers to extract their money . All ACF 50 does is put a gritty oily slime on your motorcycle ,that gets washed off in a short time ,if you ride a motorcycle as it’s meant to be,day in day out in all weathers . The only part of a motorcycle ACF 50 can effectively protect is parts that are not directly exposed to outside elements . Also chain rollers are lubed & sealed internally ,the chain lube is only for hiding the rust ,as any external oil gets squished out when rollers meet sprocket teeth . No point in fancy chain lubes as brushed on gear lube is more effective & cheaper . Hosing off salt in winter & the odd spray of WD40 or similar & a general wipe over with an oily rag until the big spring clean & wax polish & general lube & grease is the way to go . Any rust on frames & stands can be sorted with a tin of Hammerite paint.

@maskedavenger2578 regardless of what you think ACF50 is used for, it is an 'anti corrosion formula' that protects, penetrates, and lubricates... I'll take my chances. Meanwhile I understand there will be some people waiting for rust and dabbing a splodge of Hammerite on the area: concealment for the unsightly win 🏆 😉
I'm suspicious of ACF50, as it's characteristics appear the same as old type wet chain lube, same sticky thin film consistency and smell. I reckon someone realised it makes a good rust inhibitor, got some aviation engineers using it so they can claim it's "used in the aviation industry" and we have what we have, over priced chain lube resold as rust inhibitor.
how does it hold up to heated parts? Such as the exhaust and engine, I've had issues with rust on exhausts and got some XCP after tons of research but worried how heat affects it. ACF I believe (maybe was XCP) says stains might be visible after heat exposure
I've never had stains, but it does burn off of the exhaust headers fairly fast, seems to last on the engine fine, just doesn't like the raw heat of the exhaust pipes. Rusty headers are a pet hate of mine so I tend to re-apply to them fairly regularly.
OK right, but you guys with a garage have that luxury of rinsing the bike and drying, but if you don't have that garage and you get home and it's still pissing it down, you either leave the bike in the rain or try covering it, which is not ideal for sure but a lot of us don't have a lot of choice 🤷🏻♂️
I second the xcp comment for sure. I equally haven't got the luxury of power, storage and water access. I use a 6L pump pressure cannister which is used to spray chemicals or water plants. And just spray acf into a rag and paintbrush. Less mess. Much more energy efficient and less water consumption. Using a bike cover helps to which I've treated with fabsil gold.
Great video mate, handy tips about using sprayer, I just used a plant spray bottle and its pretty useless comes out not properly atomised, also a tip especially for us brits, put the acf bottle in basin of hot water to heat it up before use, thins it out nicely. Great tip about buying a pet drier, never thought about that, I was looking at getting a bike drier but the prices are ridiculous. All the best looking forward to watching more videos from you.
Definitely I’ll get that stuff!! The tip to warm the acf50 before spraying I’ve seen in other channels. Maybe it would have been a good idea to wrap the grips as well, cheers
a comment for an older vid I know, but with your spray gun, reduce the air pressure and the fluid output, will save so much wasted overspray. :) Nice bike though.. :)
ACF 50 is not to be used on Motorcycles as different grade metals used on them than on aviation and maritime. And ACF50 on non marine grade metals actually speeds up corrosion Ask the US Navy and US Air Force maintenance guys at AMARG (Boneyard in the Arizona). Also bennetts have done a thorough test. ua-cam.com/video/wBgF07I7TQM/v-deo.html
Thanks for this video. You say it takes a bit of effort, compared to the 3-4 hours I can take just cleaning my bike (2017 XSR900 Abarth), doing this will be a doddle. Unfortunately, being the second owner, the original owner was too fussy in regards to protecting the headers and certain under engine areas of the bike.
Gee I would turn down that paint sprayer.....wasting so much...would choose a low wind day as well. Heard its very good stuff as you say. Any hint of salt.....my bike stays in the garage.....wont go out if I think its going to rain either....winter or summer....to much of a pain to clean again.....of course we all get caught out. May get the bike out over winter if we have had a good few days of rain to wash the salt away....if not what ever I spray on it the big stay put....cold dont bother me...just the salt. I have a second bike....I use that during winter.....but not if raw wet salt present....to much chrome and polished ali on both my bikes....the spare is lest pretty. My spray of choice is GT-85 from the makers of WD-40....£12 for 4 spray tins delivered.....1/2 can is plenty for the bike.
Good advice ! I don’t have mains power outside living in a flat so I use a worx hydroshot to wash the bike with a bucket and a worx leaf blower to get the worst of the moisture off. I apply ac50 myself most weekends . I ride all year to work .
You have literally just answered my question; l'm in the same predicament as you and also have the Worx Hydroshot. I was then wondering if their leaf blower would work - alas, you have shared the light. I currently use WD40 on my scoot, take it the ACF stuff is a level above this in terms of protection?
Lol, “At least I’m not gonna have rusty lungs.” Definitely looked breezy enough to be mitigated with some well timed safety squints and safety breath holds. Job done. Good vid.
Nice video. I just pulled the cover off my ZRX1200 that been stored for a few years. It was treated with acf and had dust settled all over it. Should I just hose it off? I had no idea you could spray a bike down like that. I'd be scared to death to spray it on my new Tiger 1200 ex display!
I acf 50 my royal enfield himalayan and my camper, got an electric hand held paint sprayer for £15 from screwfix, bike and obviously camper kept outside and used all through the year, not even a rusty bolt! I take seat off, cardboard the discs and just spray! Jobs a gooden, it's good stuff!!
I have been using a leaf blower as a dryer and ACS50, but that is a LOT of product on the bike. I had no idea you could use it on bodywork and the windscreen. I have been just using it on the metal bits. I only used it on the engine case, suspension, and chain. Thanks for the video!
I’ve put the stuff on every bike, road bike and motocross bike I’ve owned several times a year pretty much how you have just applied it. Never ever had any corrosion on any bike even after winter use. For best results you need a spray gun even if it’s an eBay special as it will mist the bike getting into every nook and cranny. Anyone who says it doesn’t work isn’t applying it with a spray gun and isn’t applying enough of it. A large container like that would literally last years as less than a cup full will mist the bike a few times. It also makes replacing anything on the bike a breeze as all of the fixings are corrosion free.
Don’t ride bikes the misses won’t let me get a license 😕.came across acf50 and bought a rattle can this stuff is amazing sprayed my entire underside of my car with it and it’s still going strong after 2 yr even use it on bathroom stuff that says it stainless steal🧐 but I’m thinking of getting the stuff you had and using a spray gun to get it everywhere under the car
I used to use this stuff, but I found it damages the paint, so I stopped, my bike got lots of putting where I used it, I used it online engine covers, the wheels and the frame and everywhere I used it I got pitting of the paint and aluminium. I think I would have been better off just not bothering at least I would not have the pitting all over the fainted surfaces. I think if you only put it on places where you have bare metal it would work great, but that's not much on a motorcycle.
I used to ride all year round in ice and snow just before winter i would clean and polish my bike .then i used to smear a small amount of grease over the crome .mudguards on wheel rims and on buttom of frame then carried ridding till the spring then wipe all grease off the bike would stop salt getting to crome on wheels and mudguards this used to do from 1979 till 1990 s
Ahhhh reminded me of my little brother and his deodorant, one can lasted about a week until he sparked a cigarette up on the way to primary school and imitated an Olympic torch, lol
Cheers! Yes, still got Camille, she doesn't come out much in the winter though - Pirelli Supercorsa's not the best for the winter roads! Maybe on a dry day though...
I don't use ACF50 even though I have it. I thoroughly clean the bike after each winter ride, then dry. Yep, with a pet drier, which I bought second hand for £25. The bike gets waxed once dry and the shiny bits get wiped down with an oily rag. The bike is a Royal Enfield Classic 500 and it has zero signs of rust. I took it through a really badly flooded road last week. A car following me didn't make it. Mind you, the bike started spluttering as the air filter got a bit wet and muddy. Good fun all the same.
Looks like the whole street's now protected for 12 months 🤣
😄😄😄
Swings, slide and roundabout on local park that was downwind, ha ha.
With that fine mist and no mask I reckon his lungs are safe from rusting too.
Completely pointless spraying that stuff over the bike!
Too fine a mist! Think of peoples lungs..

You should also mention that ACF-50 is quite thick and does need warming up. The best way is to immerse the spraying container in a vessel of fairly warm water for about 20 minutes to make the ACF-50 more runny and sprayable
Cheers, I'll do that if I make another ACF50 vid in the future.👍
If u use rattle cans warm them first, it mists loads better 👍🏻
Thank you👍 Lacking indoor storage for my poor bike this is something that should definitely be done.
Definitely, if the bike is kept outside.
Sorry but under test conditions XCP beats it hands down.

XXP is now the better product. ACF 50 i always found to be a dust magnet. XCP in test you can find online will out perform ACF50 in every way.
Great video - your throttle grip is going to be slippy tho !
I'd be wearing a mask and goggles 🧐 Mighty handy with the spray Gun
Waste of money. Have used it on induction hardened bedways and they rust. Buy Jenolite wax oil spray. Cheaper and far superior.
Cheers, I'll look that up.
I don't want my bike covered in that AC50 shit ; it makes a right shitty mess of the bike
Then don't...and maybe don't waste your time watching videos on how to apply it either?! 😎
Will any spray gun do or will I need a specific nozzle size thanks formthe upload, I have the rattle can but always seems gloopy.
I agree about the cans, any nozzle size should do, it's a pretty thin liquid.

I wondered how Z30, rustilo or ensis compared. I tried ACF50 on measuring tools and it was useless, way oil is better.
Dude your "uncleaned" chain looks cleaner than my cleaned chain 😂
Not the Best, but the most Expensive.
thanks for taking the time to do the video mate ,top job
How is your bike now? Can you make a video to show us?
Assume it's safe to breath in?? Lol
I think you've missed a bit 😂
Before storing your bike, spray engine fogger in the intake to coat the cylinder walls to prevent pitting.
Cheers, I'll look into that!👍
Probably good idea to wear a respirator
What about de-tailing is that with doing?
a comment for an older vid I know, but with your spray gun, reduce the air pressure and the fluid output, will save so much wasted overspray. :) Nice bike though.. :)
Do you acf 50 on your chain to protect or clean it
ACF 50 is not to be used on Motorcycles as different grade metals used on them than on aviation and maritime.
Nice one, necessity is the mother of invention!
My streetfighter has the OEM plastic tank w matt finish. Any issue w spraying the treatment on that?
Fantastic video I use ASF50 and GT85 looking forward to more videos will subscribed stay safe 🇬🇧👍
Brilliant! Thanks for watching!
Is there such a thing as a bag to cover the brake calipers? Sort of like a small shower cap.
Not that I've seen, it would be a good idea though!
That one-gallon ACF50 you have there cost around $120 now - October 2022, can cover 1,000 bikes and last 10 years, why so much for a bike?
I enjoyed that, I’ve never used ACF50 before usually just washed the bike and left it but I can see me getting some for my V4S👍
I would, don't want a bike like that going rusty! And a dryer, you wouldn't believe how much water is held in radiator fins, it amazes me every time.
Nicely done! I use this stuff on my bikes especially helpful for those Bonneville Salt Flat trips.
Oh, yes, I can imagine it is an absolute essential for that! Industrial quantities of it!
Watching this in January as my keeway is looking ROUGH with the road crap. Im sorry I didnt see this a few months ago.
Ahhhh reminded me of my little brother and his deodorant, one can lasted about a week until he sparked a cigarette up on the way to primary school and imitated an Olympic torch, lol
Great vlog mate, I’ll have to try that stuff👍
Have you still git the Thruxton?
Cheers! Yes, still got Camille, she doesn't come out much in the winter though - Pirelli Supercorsa's not the best for the winter roads! Maybe on a dry day though...
Good advice. I just bought a big bottle. Looks like you got a lot in your lungs so your organs and brain won’t go rusty 😂
Helpful thx!
After it's applied, do you need to do anything after you've ridden in the rain?
"a little bit goes a long way" lol 🤪 i wonder what your definition of a little bit is ... i did enjoy the video tho cheers and ride safe
I have an old XT660 that I use in the winter, the superbike stays indoors.
Any tips for a rider that doesn`t have a garage and needs to store his bike outside every day after work? Best i can do is a cover...
I ment $100
Hi Does this leave any marks on the exhuat system after it been hot. Thanks 👍
Great video I've just subscribed

Looking forward to trying this got a wee scooter chrome exhaust etc so fingers crossed thanks
