@Jerry Andersen Actually, lights are bad for hamsters because they like dark. The light makes hamsters stressed so they are more likely to not like their enclosure. It may look good to humans but that hamster must be really stressed.
@Jerry Andersen As the pets caretaker, it's your goal to give them the most naturalistic environment because they can't choose their surroundings. You are making comparisons to the pet store conditions which have well documented links to hamster abuse, as well as city conditions which is not reflective of a naturalistic environment. Don't make assumptions, there is a near decade old study on it here asdresearchinitiative.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/red-light-blue-light-and-white-light-hamsters-and-mood/ . Hamster need a light cycle to know when to get up, just like humans. A light in his nest will confuse his circadian rhythm. If you want an accent light for your enclosure, make it on the outside. The light is for your enjoyment, not for theirs; use it when you want to enjoy your hamster and his enclosure.
@Jerry Andersen adding artificial light to a hamster could mess with how they sleep and the hamster won't benifit from the light other than getting stress and what if he chews it
@Jerry Andersen it upsets their circadian rhythm here's a study from almost a decade ago asdresearchinitiative.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/red-light-blue-light-and-white-light-hamsters-and-mood/ It doesn't matter if the light is amber, that's still white light. While this is really cute, this is way too small for a hamster. The RSPCA recommends cages are at least 80x50cm (most hamster cages sold in pet shops are too small). Also, hamsters have poor eye sight and mostly rely on their brilliant sense of smell, so the lightbulb in the hideaway does nothing for the hamster except cause a hazard if the hamster chews the wires.
