  • I get asked all the time how I got into my job as a full time content creator, so I thought I'd share my career trajectory, when and why I started Instagram, UA-cam and my blog. This is a super honest vlog that I'm a bit scared to put out there, as I know there's a lot of judgement of this job, but I also think transparency is great, so here goes!

Really interesting to hear your journey Flora. I think many of us non-influencers wonder how it happens and appreciate the inside story. All the best as you branch out, while still keeping the running content of course!

I think it is a great idea to combine the trailrunning content with biology and ecology. As a trailrunner myself wonder alot about the ecology and conservation of the nature i am running in. I can only respect your choice to be a content creator, and i think you will reach at least the same or even more people in a positive way.

This was really interesting, thank you for sharing! You've motivated me to write another post for my own blog - not that I expect to ever reach your size, but just for my own benefit

Charlotte Clarke UK is amazing, and she's really down to earth. I don't think she's an 'influencer' yet but her current ultra-training videos are great

There's an insanely healthy attitude in the running space where creators talk about what they earn from UA-cam, at least to ballpark.
I find this very interesting personally, and think it's a nice way for creators to hold themselves accountable to the people who generate their money through views.
I would love to hear a breakdown of this as you offered at the end.
There's nothing worse than seeing someone in a mansion, making a different kind of content, then beg (ahem, sorry I meant ask) for merch purchases to 'help out'.
    Also, yay biology and conservation.
I think as your influence grows, you could maybe use this to lobby race organisers to be better at waste management. I raced a beautiful countryside road marathon in a remote part of the UK last year and felt sick to my stomach with all the runners just dumping their gel wrappers and bottles everywhere.
The organisers did announce and put in the literature that there's no course cleanup, so use the bins provided - but clearly that didn't sink. I wonder who cleaned up, if anyone and how accountable the organiser would be held. Because 'we told people not to litter, what more can we do?!'

      Thanks for this!!
I actually have been lobbying race organisers since I started racing, each time I see waste or unsustainable practises at a race. More often than not I'll send an email after the race (they must hate me!) 😅 I think if more people did that, they'd change pretty fast.

@@FloraBeverley Indeed. I sent an email as well, and to be fair got told it would br raised at the post race debrief, but that's all I heard.

Great chat! Would it be feasible to start a secondary channel to do videos on women's health and training specifically in sports? You made me aware years ago of the discrepancy between the time and resources spent on men vs women over the years, and the studies that ARE out there might be tough to find/ understand. I think women in ALL sports could really benefit from a channel that discusses solid science in the topic!
You really nailed it when you mentioned how limiting it is for children, and the adults they become, when they're told they're bad at something, do something else. We're ALL able to become at least proficient in any topic with enough time and effort. It's a shame when we're taught that, if you're not a natural, and great at something immediately, to give it up and not even try.
Thankfully, I never had that "knock myself down to be more attractive to men" issue... I learned early on that it was the cool/nice guys who encouraged me, and the jerks who tore me down. Thankfully my growing mind hit on the simple fact that I didn't care what jerks thought, because I didn't want to be around them anyway! 😂 I was the only girl in the cross country team at my school, and competed ferociously with the boys for 2 years. My all guy team rolled their eyes in the beginning, but by the end they treated me like their sister, especially at the away races, when my awesome coach would put me in with the boys, and not make me race alone against a whole girls team! 😂 "She runs with the boys. Period. " Thanks, Coach O'Neil!
Sorry for the novel. I'm looking forward to what comes next for you, being a tree hugging trail runner myself!

Haha I love all this! I'd definitely like to discuss women in sport more, but I need to educate myself further before educating others I think. Always learning! 😊
Love that story of you on the xc team. I played squash in the boys team too for a year! I loved it, except when they made me compete against a 12yo boy who just kept complaining that the only reason he would lose to a girl is because I was so old 😂
