  • I have always wanted to feature this train - the "Atlantic Coast Express" was the premier multi-section train on the Southern region of British Railways. For that I needed an engine of the 'West Country' or Battle of Britain' class, but I did not have that big an engine on my roster; we are still waiting for the long-heralded Dapol model.
    Then Hattons "pre-owned" list showed an old Farish die-cast BB model! I thought "There must be room in that 'spam-can' for a decoder" . . and there is, but isolating the motor was a bit more of a challenge! The wheel flanges are huge, details are minimal, and it make an awful noise . . but it runs quite well, and will do until the better model arrives.
    For me, like many others of my generation, the ACE was symbolic of holiday memories of my childhood . . .so this video is a little bit different . . .
