@@MtbFrequentFlyer We rode them repeatedly (scouting lines and such) in prep for my son's first downhill race at Southeast Downhill - Sugar. Great time! Of course, the weather on our pre-run day was WAY better than race day.
We rode there for my first bike park experience 2 years ago. The first feature other than the green trail that we rode was the rock roll. I was 54 years old, and I was the one in our group that went first. I didn't think it was that bad. I still haven't done the downhill into Donovan's Dungeon though. That right turn at the bottom scares me a little. When we were there the first time, they had just opened up Hare Scramble and Supernatural. All of the rock gardens on Supernatural were really raw and much harder then. They hadn't filled in the rocks with dirt, so it was much chunkier. There was 1 left turn down a hill (10:34 in your video I think) that no one made it through without crashing in our group. When we went back the next time, they had moved some of those rocks to create a line through it. We are headed back on Sunday. As for comparison between there and Beech, I like both. I thought Beech was a bit harder generally. I hate the lift at Beech though. As a guy with a bad knee, it is hard to get off the lift without getting hit by it, unless you are sitting in the outside position. But the grass turns at Sugar are pretty lame.
Yes... they get 3 to 4 months of skiing. Only because of all the snow they have to pump out. I am not saying they should just drop the skiing thing. But they could have a solid 7 months of mountain biking good Revenue coming in.
Nice edit bud i have never been to sugar mountain but most people have told me that it's easy n beech is better. But after watching the video i want to go check it out.n i have rode beech mountain several times n windrock so it will be interesting to see how it compares
Hey man nice to meet you today at Kolo! Sorry to interrupt your group lesson lol. Just had to say hi to a big influence of mine. Anyway, I find Sugar to be more difficult than Beech for skiing and MTB tho the green at Sugar is easier than Green Mamba.
Some of my friends went to sugar and beech a couple of weeks ago, with sugar getting the better rating. Much faster lifts and not as blown out. Looking forward to new bike check. Cheers!
After my recent trip to Kanuga, I don’t think much around here beats it. As far as a lift bike park goes, I can’t speak on that because I haven’t been to one yet. But if I’m just making a decision off your videos, I’d definitely say Beech looks better. I love your videos but this one makes me want to skip sugar and go to Beech. I’ve been to both on ski trips but I definitely want to take my bike out there. Love your channel man! Hope to see you out there one day! Keep it up 🤙🏼
If you want flow go for beech Sugar doesn’t have many features either so that is also a negative but the lift is quick and so you can get more runs by the end of the day… I might have to do a beech vs sugar video soon
Not my favourite type of riding. But you made this look like a good time out in the bikes! Love the drone footage to. Adds a great element to the video 👍
I just went to sugar for the first time today. The rock roll was very intimidating, but not that hard after all. The bumps on the bottom killed my hands though!
So for those of us who’ve yet to hit a gravity park, how does Sugar compare to Pisgah (say the old Middle Black, Daniel Ridge, Avery, etc.)? Is is that much gnarlier?
It’s not that much gnarlier … but maybe steeper in parts. The braking bumps make it tougher and just the shear amount of descending you get in a day can really do a number on your body (and bike … check those bolts and axles!)
Have you ever ridden Sugar mountain bike park? How do you think it compares to Beech or Windrock? Let me know in the comments below!
Heading up for the first time on Sunday!
Nothing compares to Windrock lol
Great video! I work at the mountain and at the grass turns at the bottom, we are extending the trail through there.
Next up, to complete the trail through the dungeon. Then on to the new Cat1 race course
Yep I managed to mess around on the part under the lift on Donovan’s but couldn’t drop in the sketchy entrance lol
I was the one on the gray Santa Cruz that went through ECR to the rock roll with you
@@danielb5223 Thanks so much for helping me through that section!
Its was an honor. Love getting folks over their hurdles. Make the sport that much better
Love Sugar. The Harescramble/Supernatural combo is so much fun!
I had a blast with those trails! Could ride em all day if my hands didn’t go numb lol

I definitely have always liked beech more in the past but this last trip was much more enjoyable since I wasn’t afraid of the tech like I once was!
great video!!!
Thanks mate!
I wish both Resorts would take it more serious
I agree
So much could be done to make both better and more fun

Would be nice if I didn't have to travel to Snowshoe 3 - 4 times a year 5 hours away to get that type of fun.... sorry for rambling ✌
just got back from snowshoe! second trip this year and might have to make a third lol
I was thinking of going up here on a hardtail. Is that a bad idea?
It’s possible but the hard tail is gonna make it a much tougher day
eyo it’s bert from kolo
Hey Bert! How did the races go Friday?

I definitely don’t think sugar is any easier! Let me know what ya think when ya make it up there!
I need to try out Sugar Mountain Bike Park, we love Beech and it is so close we could do them both in one trip.
I plan to do a sugar vs beech edit soon !
Mtb Frequent Flyer I will like to see that.

No worries mate! Glad you came and said hello!
I agree and think sugar just has more elevation to make steeper stuff

Thanks bud! I definitely prefer flow to tech but I think it’s good for me to branch out and try different stuff out of my comfort zone
I just went to sugar for the first time today. The rock roll was very intimidating, but not that hard after all. The bumps on the bottom killed my hands though!
Man those flat grass turns are rough! Definitely my least favorite part of sugar!
Sugar is no joke I thought it would be easier than beech but it’s not.. just as steep just as rocky just as beat up! I’ll take snowshoe any day!!!
Have you ever ridden Rope Mill in Atlanta it is right next to blankets creek.
Sure have it’s pretty mellow but fun for beginners
@@MtbFrequentFlyer ya i def think blankets is better but its pretty chill.
@@MtbFrequentFlyer have you ridden all the trails there?
Did you get your bike back?
no he got a new one
No but hopefully new bike day edit will be coming soon!
Nice work on the rock roll at the end Caleb 🤙🏼 …. How are you getting with a new bike?
Hopefully new bike day will be coming soon but no luck on the stolen Reign
@@MtbFrequentFlyer yeah once it’s stolen it would be hard to get it back.
@@MtbFrequentFlyer what bike are you looking at?
@@DMMTB Something enduro ish or maybe heavy trail
