    I've got the Gig2 symmetrical and had it for a week now and it's been rock solid using the WAS-110 into my UDM-SE.

    Great to watch such an informative video, thanks for posting! I live in a small town who are only just getting VM rolled out so nice to see that these new technologies replacing DOCSIS make all the difference for reliability.

      Did they do your entire town? And did they do it all at once? They’re building here but not my street yet 😢

      @ still waiting for the line to go live, I can’t say I’ve seen any other works ongoing so maybe it’s just behind-the-scenes work ongoing to prep for launch now

      Typically takes up to a year for Nexfibre to build and go live must say they are pretty quick at building compared to others.
      Keep an eye on my fibre checker on my website to see when your live fttppro.co.uk

      Nexfibre usually cover as much of a town as possible either using PIA (using Openreach duct and poles) or digging their own trenches.
      Here in Shrewsbury they did it in phases and half of the town was built by VM under a different project using RFoG where as my half is Nexfibre XGSPON

    Similar experiences and speed figures here (Sheringham, Norfolk) 1gb/1gb. The router interface is really cut down and Im missing my ubiquity control panel with wireguard and ad block suppot. My estimated bill has a £65 charge for non specific extras (paying £47/month including the £6 synchronous charge) will keep an eye on them!. The install in Sheringham didnt go to plan as the PON/customer numbers were wrong across the town. I did get connected 8 days later (an automatic £6.10 / day reduction in charges according to the website, will keep my eyes open for that one too!.
    Othe than the router and the feeling VM will be squeezing tighter and tighter in the future Im pretty happy with the speed. Now then .lets see if we can work out how to use our own routers....

      I also had a delayed install as the pre pull had not been done I would check you get your compo as when I called up to check mine I was told I was not eligible they seem to think they have a way out of paying it!
      After hours spent on the phone arguing the case they finally applied a £100 credit on my account which is equivalent to what I would have got with the auto compo.
      Just keep an eye on your bills and what goes out your bank account!
      It is possible to use your own router I am using my PFSense router feel free to email me info@fttppro.co.uk for more info and I hope to share a video about this soon!

      Hi, I live just outside Holt (North Norfolk) and I have ordered the new Virgin full fibre 1Gb connection which will be via a hub5x. I currently use a Unifi Express with several access points for my WiFi and the Express just takes a single Ethernet feed from my zen Fritzbox 7530. Everything is working great with my current DSL connection. When I switch to the new Virgin hub5x will everything just work as it is now, I.e connecting my Express into the 10gb port on the hub5x or will I need to put the hub5x into modem mode for everything to work on the Unifi side, I.e. for the Unifi Express to continue to push mesh Wi-Fi around the house without issues? Thanks in advance for any help.

      @@chrisbleasby hi Chris
      There is a way to bypass the hub5x but it’s too complicated/expensive for me to handle (see UA-cam for the video covering this)
      I have forgone my ubiquity router for now but my ubiquity access points still work (I programmed them with the hub 5x ip address as the gateway before I unplugged my ubiquity router).
      Later this year Lightspeed and BT will be providing fibre to the home in Sheringham also, alternatives for the future perhaps.
      In the meantime I can side run WireGuard by having a GL.inet router plugged in to the hub5x
      I cannot run anything else without a modem mode in the hub5x as that would mean problems with double Nat.
      Not ideal but to be honest the upload and download speeds have made up for a lot of:-)

      @ Hi Stephen, so the Unifi Express won’t just work as it does today, I.e with access to the console so that I can see all traffic information? All I want the hub5x to do is to provide an internet feed to the Unifi Express, I don’t need the hub5x to provide WiFi, just to route traffic. Thanks again.

      @ with no modem mode on the hub5x attaching a UniFi express will give you 2 routers and double Nat. I have put my unify router back in its box till the 5x is given a modem mode or I switch to another fibre provider that provides access to a fibre modem.
      Would like to be proven wrong if anyone else has got an easy solution …

    How do I know if I can get symmetrical download and upload in my area? Right now I’m 1gb down 100 up

    • @nsmmedia
      @nsmmedia  Місяць тому

      This all depends on which type of Virgin Media you have checkout my blog to find out which you have you need XGSPON for symmetric fttppro.co.uk/the-three-types-of-virgin-media-broadband/

    Hi, what are those iperf commands you're typing in? I can't quite see on my screen. I don't think the IP address of the server is correct anymore as it doesn't work for me.

    • @nsmmedia
      @nsmmedia  5 місяців тому

      the IP of the iperf3 server i was testing against is 94.103.243.26 aka Full Fibre Ltd speedtest server.

      Yes I agree some of their routing/peering is odd!

      is there a way to see who would have the best peering in my area? Like I can see from your location you have 10-11 ms to London. But I have 7ms and im based further away than u in the northwest of UK.

      That’s not good you may be entitled to some compensation under the Ofcom automatic compensation scheme which Virgin is a member of
