Angelo Debarre improvises over the changes of All Of Me. Excerpt from In The Style Of Angelo Debarre Vol.6
We've already released four volumes where Angelo shares his thoughts on music. What more could we have done? Actually, Angelo has a specialty: playing in a very relaxed way over fast tempo songs. His secret? To feel the time at half the time and to phrase in that way. So if a song is at 300bpm, he will often feel it at 150bpm and phrase in that way. He will go in and out of the real tempo and the half time feel, thus creating very interesting solos! All the playing examples will be transcribed, and we hope that students can incorporate the time feel into their playing so that blazing tempos are no longer a problem! It takes a while to get used to this feel, and you will have to work a lot on triplet phrasing (which end up being quarter note triplets over the fast tempo). Here's a perfect demonstration!
Rhythm Guitar: Denis Chang
Angelo Debarre is a French guitarist born into the Django Reinhardt Gypsy tradition. Having lived in a caravan for many decades, he spent his youth performing in France with family and friends. On top of his love for the music of Django Reinhardt, he is also well known for his passion for eastern European music which he discovered in the 80s, when many eastern European Gypsy musicians were performing in Paris at the Roue Fleurie. Today, he is recognized as one of the top Gypsy Jazz guitarists in the world.

I love the last second when he remembers to breathe
For those who criticize he's too fast and sporty, I inform you Angelo is capable of playing medium swings and slow ballads and any kind of waltz like a genius, just check his recordings and live footages around. He's playing here to demonstrate, simply because he probably was asked to do it because he's completely in control to do it. Up tempo stuff is something a pro musician should be able to play when required... it's only one part of his playing. I hardly understand what's wrong to be criticized here anyway... Every phrase is musical, it always has a beginning and an ending. The rhythm control is just flawless, same for dynamics... just wow. I'm going back to my practice room.
I agree - he's one the most melodic and soulful players out there but he can burn it up when he wants to.
oh , to be criticized as being too fast and sporty hahaha .... one can wish! Seriously though, Gypsy Swing kind of leans a bit towards fast playing a lot but not always. Personally I have never reached the level of fast precise picking and I use many hammer-ons offs so whenever I see these kinds of players just running up some scales (similarly Flamenco players with fast picado doing scale runs like Paco de Lucia) I'm still amazed a bit
Personality counts for more in my book when it comes to swing jazz, without trying to mention obvious names like stephane and Django they sound like they are having the best time playing together, something I don't hear too much in many modern players, who seem to be more preoccupied with finding new ways to clutter everything up, leaving little breathing space or room for a silent smile
I need to practice more
Angelo is such a monster player. The fluidity in his playing just blows me away...
How he feels comfortable playing with that heavy, thick jacket on, is beyond me.
@Alex 0ut-Of-Magic i only play with a leather thick jacket for the comfort.
Such GREAT playing!
This guy kills it every time-wow
I heard a Donna Lee lick
Yes I did
In which part?

Angelo... wow il décoiffe, technique mais aussi toujours mélodique et inspiré, et le rythme... purée.
Have to really like that you have guys like Angelo, Bereli, and Stochelo effortlessly letting it go. Nice!

The spirit of Django lives on!
Heart racing, head swimming!
Man I love your style both music and fashion
Gambling jacket
Even at .75 speed I'd need a while to play this, awesome stuff!
If I wear this jacket I'll play like that too

GİTAR USTASI
Супер класс!!!👍
Oh ya !

Angelo debarre is the kind of guitar player where you check if your video isn't on 2x Speed
I love that someone would thumbs down this. Must be too hard to relate so it’s a negative. It’s amazing but also I know I’ll never achieve this one minute of music so I almost want to thumbs down! :)
How to play like this.. even only for 1 minutes, i want to play like this
Holy shit!
Very interested what guitar and strings :)
speedy Gonzalez (but for real!)
I can use parts of the music of the maximum 30 seconds for my channel, I leave the credits (Translate)
It sure is cold in here. Has anyone seen my leather jacket?
Holy shit!! Gobsmacking. Name and shame those 34 dissenting numpties.
How long does it take to get this good?
Depends on how much and how efficiently you practice. But honestly? A fuckton of time. Think several years if you work it
Can you do that a little faster please 😎😂😂✨✨✨✨♥️
whats the guitar ?
Hold my juicebox
Watch in 2x speed
0:18 the unforgettable Mario lick
WTF?
Dude may as well plug in and turn the knob to 11!
I play a bit of Hot Club.
And I like playing at a speed that doesn't give folks heart problems. Damn!
What is the make of his guitar????
Looks like all mahogany.
Next fallout song?
Play it x0.75 speed... ;)
0.5 is best 😂
What just happened???
Wew

Stochelo bad dream
뭘 본거지?
I think it was a little slow
how. the fuck. do you even. start learning this
and he leaves the jacket on .
20 years of practice and you too can play like that in no time at all. 😁
dude .. you don't know who is angelo debarre!
I think he needs to watch Joscho Stefan to see it done properly!
hahahaha
Good playing but.. it's NOT an etude 😂
I mean I dont wanna hate or anything, I mean the music was awesome. But its kinda obvious its sped up, isnt it? Like, the head moves.
Still great music, I would prefer to hear and watch it at the original speed tho.
I honestly don't think the vid is sped up.. the head movements don't look that weird, his facial expressions look realistic and familiar, being a guitar player myself.
Also he didn't play *that* fast, it was really great playing but not of an unbelievable level where he had to have messed with the recordings.
You obviously never saw him in concert
too many notes
Non mi piace .
Speed without emotion . The music sounds like an exercise .
Great playing but django is musical poetry to the ear compared to this. Too fast, too much, this is not music (which should have soul and heart), this is sport.
skijumperwannabe thank you for your comment, i will send your message to angelo. He values your expert opinion. He will probably change his style completely thanks to your brilliant insight
so in other words what you're saying is that you cant play
@@patrickburden5416 look, he plays like the devil, no arguement about that. I haven't seen someone play so accurate and fast, it is mindboggling. But I can't hear All of me ... btw, I am a bad player but I can listen, like everybody else. And I dont shit on people just because their opinion differs from mine.
This whole thing about some playing not having soull or being musical just because it's fast needs to stop.
Music is not about playing as many notes as possible.. You feel music.. I found that awful.
You merely "feel" at a slower rate. He feels at a faster rate. Not sure how speed dictates feeling. Nice non sequitur.
