"What if we didn't include time machine cards in the new board game?"
"Time machine."
+
*chuckles*
Nicholas Zangas wow
What-
*T I M E M A C H I N E*
Oh no TIME MACHINE TIME MACHINE TIME MACHINE
*C* *L* *E* *F* *A* *I* *R* *Y*
ᴰᵒᶫᶫ
JWITTZ
is my favorite youtuber
What is this!?
A post for *germs* !?!?!
(2nd place horrible joke goes to saying "enhance" several times)
ᶫᵒᶫ
Creetz How you do that poppí?
I actually laughed when he said that.
The sequel no one asked for, but the one we deserve.
That should have been the tagline for Cars 3.
Nitro Indigo What did we do to deserve Cars 3?
RandysRage Cars 2, we didn't deserve cars 2 therefore we deserve cars 3
Jory Porteous perhaps
Lightning McQueen McDied to redeem the franchise.
"TIME MACHINE!"
*reaches over, takes time machine, rips it up* NO.
well
TIME MACHINE
I didn't like. It was 69. If I liked it would be ruined.
Linda Byrne wel now it’s ruined
pull a Seto Kaiba on the Time Machine card
My favourite quote from you in the first Episode :ITS A CRUEL GAME WHERE PEOPLE CONSTANTLY BACKSTAB EACHOTHER,and this one:
Its the Poke-Hunger games out there
You should ductape the 2 games together when you finish this game you move over to kanto
Then make a food Hoenn board and add that
@@chazdasavage6049 *good
lol, at that point it will be a day long
Oh my God, there was a _second_ Master Trainer game?! I knew about the first one, my cousins had it when I was a kid, but I've never seen this one before!
McJohnson There are at least 3, my cousin had the third
Ya the second version was a very limited release and it goes for a bit of money now.
Korflog666
I have it. Never played it, but I have it lol.
McJohnson There is even a 3rd one
It seems that only cousins had the game.
My cousins had the first :p
"A wild snowball effect might happen: the losing player gets pushed down by the bigger player"Economics 101 lol!
I think that could of easily been solved (the EXP aspect) by just not being able to gain EXP if your opponent is too far below you, like in the actual game.
That's a good house rule to implement. If your opponent's total point value is, say 15 or 20, below yours, you don't get EXP. It will add time to the game, but it will be more enjoyable.
DrewPicklesTheDark E9
So this board... allows you to go into the ocean and drown, go to a small field in the center of the map, and go to the uncharted north, just to capture extra Pokémon.
I wonder if someone could combine the best parts of the two games. I'd like to see TheJWittz make a video where he shows his own custom version.
ryan girard if you have both copies of the game you can actually do that, theres nothing too different to stop you from mix and matching the items on one of the two boards
that's not true. You don't play as just Ash Ketchum. You play as
Ash
Ash Ketchum
That Kid
Gary's Rival
Saktoshi
And The Guy From The Anime That Looks Kinda Like Red
what about bike thief?
I think one of them is the guy who destroyed Mistys bike
Scrumpy boom Or the idiot that uses a Pikachu against a Raichu
I swear Ash's Pikachu has a Light Ball.
This need more likes
CodeNameZ that was ash idiot >:^
With a few house rules I feel like these games could be a lot better! The way you reveal a secret card to boost your power in battle has a lot of potential for fun mind games. ^^
it's probably for the best to set personalized rules for such games. They just aren't included in the manual cause of how long the booklet would be. A lot of board games like this could just as easily have personalized rule books as big as a DnD game if you put enough effort into thinking about it
Yeah a house rule to weaken the gym badges would probably be a good idea. Maybe remove the free pokemon you get for defeating them?
And in the first game, house rules that say you can only use time-machines on your own rolls and that you can't break up an evolutionary line with a forced trade would probably make the game a lot less frustrating.
AlteredNova04 gyms are cake. I add 1 to all gyms for balance
A house rule I would make: You make a checklist to check which gyms the player themselves have defeated, meaning the gym battles aren't 1st come 1st served and the game is fair!
There's a game called Cosmic Encounter that has a rule a lot like this
Jwittz! Not everyone plays as ash! You play as, satoshi, Gary's rival, anime red, and that one guy who never wins gym battles!!
Lol
mewhunter
Satoshi, Ash, Sasha, Red but dumb, The guy with the hat, and The kid thats 10.
Don't forget bike thief.
dont forget person who lost to a mega charizard with a ash-greninja
And Oshawott torturer...
I had the first Master Trainer game as a kid & about three or four years ago, I wanted to relive my memories playing it so I was able to track down & purchase a copy with all pieces still remaining, the box was a little beatup though. It was $60, I image with the video you put up on the first, more people wanted it so the price went up quite a bit & I'll say locating a copy under $100 before the video was up was tricky on its own but totally worth the work since it felt so good reliving my childhood memories playing that game. I even brought it to some Pokemon events which drew in interest from many people. You speak on how these games have to going at each other's throats, I can see the second one being more bloodthirsty than the first. Since the first one takes forever, by that point the complete strangers I have played with actually encouraged & rooted on anyone who even had a chance of winning. Mainly because we all wanted to see someone actually beat the darn thing but it was cool having people try helping others in a game that has you turn against one another but I guess I can say we're lucky these games aren't as evil as Dokapon Kingdom.
Do a livestream with some of your friends on this game
I probably will! We're setting up a tabletop streaming setup for games like this
Dion6103 thank you. I would love to see the frustation of these games first hand.
Say hello to insanity for us when you find it.
Steaphan9 lol so true
TheJWittz let me get that invite tho
I love the way these capture the exact essence of the Pokemon games, it's amazing to see how well the games translate to cardboard
JWITTZ THIS IS A WONDERFUL VIDEO!!! It makes me REALLY want to play these games!! There is just one problem..... ITS SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!!
I have a friend who has these games but he doesn't have the patience to play board games.
He said 3 is the cheapest so you may have a way to play after all
Batman4003 I don't have enough friends who will want to Finnish the game with me.
Batman4003 I’m looking into buying Dark Souls the board game. I could buy a TV with that kind of money.
Try Tabletop Simulator
2:43 Whats with Voltorbs face? Looks so miserable 😂😂😂
Optimus because it knows it has no purpose but to explode.
Look at the electrode tho :P
Electrode is like... :O
Electrode is h*eccing elated
Y
I want Master Trainer 1 so I can torture my friends but it's so dang expensive... ah, if only someone just scanned the board, chips, and cards into a computer. Then I could print 'em out and use my own dice and paper cutouts of Ash as place markers.
Have you heard about tabletop simulator on steam?
@Bill Blass no that i know about it, it would be crazy to control that on a phone
My daughter just turned 6 and I bought some board games for us to play and my older brother reminded me of how we used to play the original Master Trainer board game like crazy. Googling it brought me to your channel. Loved the first video and now I'm here. You got a new subscriber, buddy.
( ' ')>⭕️ I am taking your Totodile chip. Goodbye.
+TheTotodile Takeover treat him well
Holy totally tubular Totodiles! JWitts replied? I am honored. I will treat him well! As a matter of fact, I shall go get my Totodile plushie now!
+TheJWittz And what if I wanted the Chikorita? She's all mine. *insert Diabolical Laugh here* No but seriously... seeing these 2 videos... I wanna play the games now, but 2 things, I don;t have any friends, and I don;t have any of the board games... Hey, I got an idea, be my friend so we can play. lol, now I know that'll never happen... sadly.
Keiichi Izumi I'll be your friend... if I had any idea how I could meet you irl.
+TheTotodile Takeover Nice of you to say. Though... I think I'd rather get to know you first than you popping up on my doorstep out of the blue lol. But we both know that'll never happen either. I've never really been good company, being alone all my life, I don;t have anything interesting to say about myself, nor anything in general except for video games and Anime, nothing else. Oh... and I guess I should mention now... I had no intentions of guilt tripping you or anyone else to say something like that... I only just stated the truth nothing more.
I'm so glad you're delving your channel into board game stuff. Board games are super interesting and usually rather un appreciated and undervalued. These are great vids JWittz, keep it up
CLEFAIRY!!! Doll...
Nearly spit my lunch out.
Thomass nearly spit my dinner out! Gonna rewind just to get a laugh
When you enjoy yourself making the videos, it comes through. I'm glad your fans have been supporting you enough that you can do what you love, cause these videos have care put into them, and you can really tell. Keep up the great work.
If we got a gen 7 one it would be impossible to get an evaluation 802 chips but I don't care I still want one
It would be nothing but chips.
You and your friends would make it ran pokemans for a good 30 minutes.
An eshop only virtual board game could work. Especially on the switch.
It would probably just use the regional Pokedex Pokemon
don't worry! we (sorta) have Pokemon Duel...
I am actually working on making a Pokémon biard game with all 802 Pokémon in it. :D It's far from being finished, but once it is, I'll post everything online to downlaod for free. :D
OMG my friend across the street growing up had this board game! It was so much fun to spend a day playing it! The box was ruined so we always just called it the pokemon game. Thanks for showing up 7 years later to give me a HUGE nostalgia bomb but here we are!
The first game simulated socialism, where everybody is unlikely to succeed. This one simulates capitalism, where one guy crushes everyone else.
StoneXL HoW eDGy
Santeri less edgy more historic comparison
Or reworded slightly, the first game simulated socialism, where everybody has the chance to succeed after a slow grind, but there are methods to keep them in check. This one simulates capitalism, where one guy crushes everyone else because they were lucky enough to get resources first.
ddogbud Time machines are the best socialist regulations.
StoneXL where’s communism
Tabletops are amazing. Keep up this side series as long as you possibly can.
When he yelled clefairy doll I literally bursted out laughing!!!
Still one of the best Nintendo UA-camrs, keep it up dude!
Been a fan for 5 years, don't ever stop what you're doing!
>Red
>On the anime style
>From America (?)
Didn't see that coming
Seeing all those little green clips around the Pokemon chips brought back so much nostalgia, I definitely would power level one Pokemon and just dominate with that
I can't wait for the Master Trainer 3 video. It's the only one of the three that I have. There's also another Pokemon board game that I remember having that was set in Sinnoh. It came with a DVD, and you had to watch the DVD in order to play the game. I forget what it was called, but if you find it, you should review that one too. Keep up the good work.
Pokémon Champion Island was what the Gen 4 game was called. I remember having some good fun with it, especially with 4 players. Plus the clips from the anime always put a smile on my face (Team Rocket's blasting off again!!)
I never knew there was a Master Trainer 2 and 3 board game. I own the original and thought that's where it ended. Can't wait to see the third iteration of the game in your next video. Keep it up!
So I was playing the credit card monopoly with friends yesterday. We all started with 5 million, but I won with a nice little fortune of 54 million. Two of my friends noticed my victory was inevitable, so they gave up. The third was stubborn and ended up losing after he landed on my Boardwalk hotel.
I only played the original board game, so this was quite interesting to me. It is making me remember the first time I entered the world of the Gold and Silver games, though, and the sheer joy I felt every time I found a new type of Pokémon. If anyone I knew decided to randomly bring over one of these board games, I'd be up for it.
Looking forward to the final installment of this trilogy!
Another brutal board game?! SO WANT!
I actually like this series so much that I would love if JWittz called his viewers "Master Trainers" forever.
Is no-one going to acknowledge that 4:56 he rolls a 6 but moves 3.
Because you have to stop there if you pass by
I gotta say, I am enjoying these videos. I'm kinda hoping that it doesn't end with the third game. Who knew these existed? Dang!
Keep it up TheJWittz!
Don't know if you know Jwitz, but you can get Master Trainer for Tabletop Simulator for cheap, giving you effectively online play-ablility with your friends~ While it's not exactly the same as buying a old physical copy, you may do well to suggest in in your next video for people interested in the game with their friends but not willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for the physical set.
I remember playing this game as a kid one time and having a Magmar with three ENTIRE rings of the +1 chips. You're definitely right about the snowball effect.
Your hands are so expressive
I first read that as "Your hands are so expensive"
I was confused lol.
Tom Bridges Me too.
I remember I had master trainer 2 when I was very young. This video was a huge nostalgia trip for me and now I'm sad that we got rid of it
I would actually enjoy this game playing with my own rules if I had it
Omg i love this series, please never stop. It's like a documentary
REVIEW MASTER TRAINER 3 ASP!!!
Is there one?
if you watched to the end of the video, he brought it out. I actually owned the third one and I loved it as a kid.
Oh, that's cool.
+AwaShinima Well, in the end of the video, he shows it, doesn't he?
ASP:
Absolutely Soon Please
ASAP:
As Soon As Possible
I think you meant the second one but I've got you covered with my fake acronym.
JWittz:”no time machine this time.”
Me (a team rocket grunt):”let’s add the time machine and the old type of training.”
You should do a series about your board games
Cool intro, I loved the first 1999 edition, never got to play the other one, didn't know there was another one until I just saw this video! Thanks for sharing and creating!
Josh, you should do more board game videos!
So THAT's why I remembered the Pokémon chips but nothing else from the first master trainer video! I didn't even know there were more! This is definitely the one I played as a kid.
Play it on stream please!
Yeah, I think he should too.
Thanks for covering these dude! These were SO confusing as a kid
Wait THERE IS A SECOND ONE??? I need to have this!
Good luck. It's now a collector's item worth hundreds. Used or new. Trust me, I've tried finding it online for cheaper to no avail.
4:21 my fav part
*C* *L* *E* *F* *A* *I* *R* *Y*
doll
0:00 JWittz i choose you.
use game review
Oh man, I just went into my closet thinking this sounded familiar and found the 3rd game just as you revealed it existed. Might have to give it a spin before the next video!
"super ball" "hyper ball"
ah, i remember catching lots of legendaries with my trusty hyper balls!
these are great videos. thank you for them. they are actually well edited and good quality, so don't be concern for that.
When you're accidentally early...
CactusErebittsu same...
"We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."
-Bob Ross
CactusErebittsu me
TheJwittz Oh my god lol
TheJWittz
Well you responding was a happy little accident for me!
Thanks for making my day.
"...Wait, what? No, JWittz, I don't want to see your "Pog Collection"."
Last time I was this early........
Trump Running for President was a Joke.
This is the game that my family played with! We usually played with house rules to make the game more fair. My siblings would let me start with a Pichu so I could eventually evolve it in to my favorite pokemon, Raichu.
This is not the sequel Gotham wants, but the sequel Gotham thinks it wants to deserve to have!
I'm 20 years old, owned master trainer 1 for as long as i can remember and its been my favourite board game of all time.
NOW I find out there was a sequel?!?
-rushes to eBay-
Lol i have two of the first game
I remember having a pokemon board game, based on third gen, that used a board combined with a dvd player on the television. That game was so fun when I was younger.
I was going to add a comment but I decided not to
Would anybody else like to see JWittz get some special guests and play this?
I feel like pointing out issue of battling for exp points or the issue of a force trade isn’t as bad as it seems. The force trade allows for players who are behind to catch up and the exp system rewards aggressive players but also leaves them open for the force trade to be more efficient at creating a balance of the two. that’s how I personally feel about it but any game mechanic is open to interpretation. Love your channel, keep up the great work.

"It's actually REALLY FUNNY when someone gets stomped..."
I spit out my drink, I wasn't ready.
i'm not big on board games but i'm loving you talk about these master quest games, I'm actually hyped to hear about the 3rd one. You know, Mr, TheJWittz.. since buying the actual board games of these are expensive.. could you do a video of you and your friends playing one? It would be super fun..
I want to see JWittz play one of these games on steam someday. That would be really fun to watch.
Would love to see you do more videos about board games that aren't necesserily nintendo related. Looks like you've got a decent collection so even just a top 10 or maybe some playthroughs with you and some friends sounds very enjoyable :^)
Jwittz, buddy. Mind making a few scans of the game pieces and sending them over? This game is long overdue for Table Top Simulator, and you could be the hero we all deserve.
How did I live my life playing Master Trainer as a little kid without knowing there were two sequels??
Nice video. I happen to have been lucky in finding the original Pokémon Master Trainer at Goodwill for a dollar. One player token was missing a head, 3 item cards were missing, and the rulebook was replaced with a printed rulebook. All chips were still there at least.
Pokemon Master Trainer: "you thought i was down and gone, but NOW I AM REBORN!"
TheJwittz: "No god Please no"
It's neat to see the board games I can only vaguely remember being explained to me.
I think it's funny how it ends up emulating the canon relationships of the games. You all start at the same level, but ultimately only one is going to progress while beating down the others. Just like the games' MC vs their rivals.
I have lots of nostalgia for the second game. I eventually got the Hoenn one as well, and the funny thing is I remember it being not particularly brutal, but also just not that fun. My sister and I pulled out this game a lot and played with a variety of house rules, but despite having Hoenn, I think we played it 5 times max. Over many, MANY years
Best videos I've seen from JWittz in a while
This series is so cool! Thanks for making these videos man
I didn't know this game had sequels. I WANT THEM!
I remember playing the first game with my best friend's brother and dad because she didn't care to play. I remember a long slog through the rules as we learned to play. I honestly just liked looking at the box art :)
You may play as:
Ash
Some kid that cannot age
Some kid who is shipped with every girl protagonist
Some kid who keeps on releasing strong Pokemon
Some kid who has stupid partners
Some kid who refuses to catch a legendary but wants to be the Pokemon master
Hope this was helpful.
I just found a complete copy of Master Trainer 2 at my local thrift store! I played the first one when I was president of my college Pokemon club, but to have one for my very own is awesome!
"Between a video game character and their anime adaptation"
Pokémon Origins: *Am I a joke to you?*
Never heard of either one of these games before.
*Josh reveals Master Trainer 3 at the end*
OMG I HAD THAT GAME
You make everything fun to learn about, Josh. Keep em coming!
Thanks for making this! I always wondered how the second game turned out. I never could get my hands on it!
I played this game, and me and my friends have some custom rules that make it pretty fun.
Firstly, you don't keep any Gym Badges chips, But in order to go past a city, you must defeat it's gym. As well as this, all players must fight all gyms to fight Lance at the end of the game. And he must be defeated to challenge Red.
You don't get any bonuses in Power for defeating a gym and you don't get any Pokemon for winning. This means you must buff up your ranks in the field before challenging the gym.
Exp Point chips have been nerfed in our rules, you get an extra power for every 3 EXP you earn. If you manage to surround a Pokemon chip with EXP, in our ruleset you are allowed to evolve it if you wish and it is able to evolve. It will lose it's EXP upon evolution, and if another player has the evolution then it must be forfeited to the player who evolves the Pokemon. This means Evolution rarely happens, but it can allow easier evolutions. Baby Pokemon also only need to get a half-circle to evolve.
The game progresses until all players have defeated Red. This means if you aren't the last to defeat him, you will be able to go back and power up and evolve your Pokemon even more. However once you have defeated Red, you can only battle other trainers who have also defeated Red, otherwise the players dragging behind get destroyed. We also give a bonus depending on who defeated him in what order. Usually if we play with 6 players, the first player to beat him gains 5 extra points, 2nd gets 4 etc.
The game does take longer under our rules, but it is also a ton of fun.
PART THREE! This series is amazing
Loving this new series on Nintendo board games!
I bought this game about 20 years ago for like $20 in a retail store I just checked Amazon and saw it at about $600.. I had no idea the game would become so rare. Just got it on a whim as I was into Pokemon at the time.
Oh, my gosh! This is hilarious! I remember that game. It was a trainwreck, but a fun trainwreck. The random Japanese names threw me for a loop.
Alright, time for this board game to make a re-appearance, with all twenty thousand pokemon accounted for. Including variants.
2:38 voltorb lookin like his dad just self destructed
I really want to see JWittz and some of his friends play these games on a livestream. :)
