But he has no off button for writing. He's tapped himself dry. Name 3, not 2 not 1, name three great songs you recall that he's written in the 21st century and would love to hear live, like Powderfinger, Mr. Soul, anything from his first four solo albums/Rust Never Sleeps..............Right............My point, exactly. He writes 50 songs and maybe one is memorable.
As good as this is I'm so grateful that I grew up in a time before music videos. The images in my head that I associate with this song are way more powerful and personal.
Thank you dear sweet Neil Young. The moon, it lit the night, the drive from Big Sur to LA, September 8th. Felt comforted, escorted, trusted faith. I thought of you. Hung that welcome moon just like a shingle, I swear! Thank you!
Neil for me this song is charged with emotions. It takes me back decades to when families were everything, your heart, your survival, and feeling life would always be intertwined with each other, never to change. Until... The boat that was coming up the river equipped to blow you away, to me it touched on Vietnam for a sick moment. and all the young boys who turned into men the second their boots hit the ground, their spirits too faded away and apart from a family's security and love. Today your words, and song could be from any event that took place. There will always be that element on earth wanting to kill for gain. Just as there will never be a shortage of Mothers tears. This song of yours evokes tears because it hits each one according to their own experience. I've been around for nearly all the years allotted to a human, and I and my family have always been a fan of Neil Young music. You still bring it Neil, Long May You Run...
Pepper Ann I registered for the draft in 1971 and I too see Vietnam in this song. I wonder whose perspective this story was from; US solder, North Vietnamese solder or perhaps all all solders?
I bet I've played that song on my guitars at home more than any other. Sounds awesome acoustically, electrically, on a six string banjo...whatever. I love that song. Long may you run, Neil.

I never really liked this song until I heard this version (now it's one of my favorites). The stripped down acoustic version allowed me to hear the emotion of the song that I couldn't hear in the electric version. Sometimes the intensity of electric guitars, amplifiers and "rock" over shadow the feeling in a song (in my opinion). Thanks for sharing this version.
