You have answered my search. I thought there was a problem with my boat. The hum was so noticeable inside the cabin, less so outside. I thought I was going nuts.
I thought I was crazy when I told my aunt I heard a weird humming on the beach in Washington. Then I found one in a tidepool and had no idea what it was. Now, I know!
Very cool. Never knew about these fish until today, it’s interesting to see more information about a deep sea fish since it’s otherwise hard to get an up close look at their lifecycle and adaptations otherwise
I have photographed a small cluster of these fish here in El Sargento, BCS... southern Baja, Mexico on the Gulf side of the peninsula. The environment in which they live is different than Elk Slough in that there is no rocky tidal zone exposed at low tide. Twenty years ago, there was, but now, the sand has filled it in. I wonder if this change of habitat has impacted its population here? Thank you for sharing the unique adaptations of this very special fish. I know more now because of your work. Thanks.
Is it True that This Story was A Cover for the Navy Building Underwater/Underground Tunnels in the San Francisco/Sausalito Bay Area? The Noise was Never Noticed over a Hundred Years Before the Complaints Mentioned in the Description And Never Heard Again Since That One Time... So the "D.U.M.B." Tunneling Is A Very Real Question, And Why The Deep Underground Military Bases Are Being Made All Over The USA. Answers Would be nice.
I 100% THOUGHT it was a tunnel being drilled under the sand in Malibu . sounded louder than a diesel truck reving its engine. Low and behold I saw a male midshipem under a rock. thinking it was a lingcod I shot the fish with my speargun and stopped hearing the sound. still didn't realize it was the fish till I found out online these fish make that sound, LOL I was so sure it was something being drilled under the ocean floor. funny how powerful such a small uncoordinated little fish can make that sound

The editing is hysterical its like a twilight zone episode and then you snap zoomed into the fish

I almost thought I was about to hear a dramatic reading of HP Lovecraft :D Great video though.
Is the humming fish of lorax
Are they lit up due to the hum sound?
Do they always sing G3?? Or is it sometimes B flat 3?
Really fascinating 💙

Very cool singing fish!
3:36 Run! The Midshipmen are coming!!
These fish are a fascinating grab-bag of weird evolutionary traits.
Move over Giant Oarfish, I got a new favourite teleost.
I just thought of a five fish doowop group when you said they compete
What about type II males?
They don't hum. They're entire existence relies on stealth.
Thanks for sharing! I actually enjoy the voice haha
When it talks about its habitat range, it should say Gulf of **California, Mexico (not Gulf of Mexico, that is in the Atlantic coast!)
just amazing indeed, how very awesome
Hi! Could I get permission to use a portion of this video for a web series about acoustical science mysteries? Thanks!
Do you happen to know this one: ua-cam.com/video/GvsuxHL_EYQ/v-deo.html

Howo he tastes?
Why do I hate its name so much?
Let me guess. Because it has the word "man" in it? 😅😅
I have found it difficult to remember.
