Hello my fellow dweebs :) An early reaction for you this week as a ❤thank you❤ for putting up with all the episode 4 copyright nonsense. I hope you enjoy watching my reaction as much as I enjoyed watching this episode!!
someone pointed out a very interesting theory about that.. rick primes dianne may have actually rejected him later on.. so he killed her from existence out of spite to the other ricks.. guy really is a heartless bastard
From that speech about how Wife Guy was the only other Rick to invent portal travel on his own, my personal theory is that Rick Prime's Diane died turning him into Rick Prime, and he created the Omega Weapon to hurt C-137/Wife Guy. All the other revenge Ricks lost theirs because of that. He just plays with them like C-137 plays with the Citadel Ricks. C-137 created the Council and the Finite Curve just to try to track down Rick Prime. Literally everything he's done has been for this. Rick Prime, having lost his Diane equally had no purpose until he found Wife Guy and was pissed off that someone would turn down infinity for something he himself couldn't have.
Easily the darkest Rick and Morty episode (and one of the greatest), IMO. And massive props to Ian Cardoni (Rick's new voice actor) for voicing the different Ricks in this episode, especially for voicing Rick Prime's descent from cockiness to anger and pain as he was getting beaten to death. Considering how awesome this was, I wonder what the finale will be like
I greatly appreciated that the music track played at the end when Rick's whole life's purpose becomes empty is the same track they play in season 1 Rick Potion #9 when Rick cronenbergs Morty Prime's universe and they bury their own bodies in the backyard. Rick had the same thousand yard stare that Morty had after he buried his own corpse and then went back to watching TV.
Mazzy Star has some of the most haunting songs I’ve ever heard. Ryan Elder is a mad genius in his musical choices, not to mention his original productions for the show.
The post-credit scene accented just how poignant and tragic Rick’s story was. Slow-Mobius’s widow was starting to go down the same dark path of grief and revenge, but by pure chance she bumped into somebody early along the way that helped kickstart the process of feeling whole again. Her timeline diverged, probability did its thing, and she went down a different path. By the time she’s made a second family with her new beau, we see Slow-Mobius’s picture still on the bedside table; he’ll always be missed, and she won’t completely move on, but at least she’s surrounded by new loved ones and looks happier for it. Rick didn’t have that chance, but we do see him surrounded by loved ones at the dinner table at the end. Same situation, same choice: succumb to despair, or move on despite it. Rick has the opportunity for a new purpose, if he wants it. The former Mrs. Slow-Mobius said yes; Rick is undecided for now.
Absolute genius, just like every other part of this episode. There aren’t many times I would say that a production is perfect, and this is one of them.
Thru various reactors I've seen this episode several times now, but this was the first time I noticed that the plans Evil Morty took were labelled 'Booger Aids.' I love callbacks like that and this show is loaded with them.
Slowmobious showed up to the party Rick threw when Beth and Jerry were gone early in the show. I think it was season 1's finale? Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I'm impressed with the unexpected amount of media literacy and how well-spoken the takes were. Off first impressions I figured this would be another hyper-expressive reaction with not much insight but this was a pleasant surprise.
Now this was a nice surprise. While I guessed we'd see Evil Morty again, I had figured he'd have been reset in Season 6 and was after C-137 for that once the dinos fixed the Curve. I'm also still kind of trying to process just how much hatred Rick Prime must have had for his wife. Murdering her? I can rationalize that. Murdering other hers and then un-existing her? What could she have possibly done to Prime to deserve that? How did he become who he is?
I liked how evil morty and rick played off of each other. Evil morty was only right once. Then he got a big head and acted condescending to rick, only to be proven wrong at multiple turns. And the final turn of events. Evil morty got to walk away with the doomsday plans, Rick prime died calling out what a scrub Rick was. And Rick got to avenge his family, before returning to prove Rick Prime’s dying point.
I really appreciate how you talk abt it at the end like an actual art piece to deconstruct a little. R&M has evolved into a pretty thoughtfully written show over its course but i feel like bc of how it is on the surface nobody really bothers to be analytical about it in that way.
Just dropping in to say that I appreciate your channel so much! I love your insights into the characters, but most of all, I love your genuine enthusiasm! A lot of creators who react to shows will fake excitement for clicks, but as this video illustrates, you are truly engaged, and have a deep emotional investment in these character arcs. Also, this ep is a work of art and I give it a 10 out of 10. Some say that 7:5 vindicates Dan Harmon as a showrunner minus Justin Roiland, but I suspect they wrote this together years ago, plus Justin was still on as a producer
Did everyone miss that c-137 Rick is living in Rick Prime's house with his family? That means the Morty we've been following just lost his real grampa, and c-137 did it.
@@teabeasley he said you LIVED in my house, not that you live in my house. Past tense. Do you not follow the show at all? Morty is the only Prime left, the cronenberg universe is the prime universe. They haven't lived there since season 1 or 2 lol
Holy shit, I just realized that the sad music playing when R&M return from their adventure is the same as when Morty first took the place of another Morty in another universe, and he was having an existential crisis. Here, Rick looks like he just woke up in a completely different world not knowing what to do with himself.... Morty Prime also just completely ruined the satisfaction Rick could've had with killing Rick Prime. Although, if it's satisfaction that Rick was looking for, and he's capable of creating a coma-contained Heaven for any individual, he could've definitely created a coma-contained Hell for Rick Prime that he could watch and enjoy whenever he wanted. He could also reduce Rick Prime to just a head that he could wake up and mock whenever he wanted like, "How does it feel to be owned by a lesser Rick?" Maybe even jump into Rick Prime's Hell and exact Prime's torture personally, on some GTA type energy.
What I liked was the parallel music and ending of our Morty feeling lost and insignificant after his original Earth went Cronenberg and Rick now having the same ending. Our Rick seems to have always known that all Dianes were killed or removed from existence previously. I believe this to be true because we never saw any Diane in any other dimension or any Rick going live in a dimension where Diane might have still existed.
Excellent review of one of the best, if not THE best, episode of R&M to date. Looking good, here’s hoping your TG was excellent as well. Watching all these since I found your channel, stuck around because of you. Allows-y!
Off-topic, but one thing that stood out to me in this episode is that the voices were indistinguishable from Roiland's. I'm impressed; hopefully, the subtle differences become forgettable.
Season 7 was so advertised as the Rick Prime season that no one envisioned the key aspect of it all would be over so soon. Makes you wonder how this season's finale will play out and if Evil Morty's prediction will come true. Anyway, next week. Remember Morty's Mind Blowers? Did you like it? You want a spiritual sequel? No? Well, too bad, you’re getting one anyway!
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but how did Rick Prime's self-healing ability get shut down so he didn't heal? They showed him healing some during the fight but I missed what Rick or Evil Morty did to shut it down...
Evil Morty shut all of his abilities down entirely with his stun darts(?), whatever they are completely disabled Rick Prime's abilities while also allowing data transfer to Evil Morty. We can see that our Rick disconnected the cables from the stun dart in Prime's head but never actually removed the dart.
While I love the show, I can't help but think the reason this episode is more in tune with previous seasons is that it was pre-written a while ago. The end of a series long arc would have been hashed out well before the season it appeared in.
Granted, I haven’t seen a lot of season 7 because I don’t have adult swim, but I have noticed a lot of the episodes seems to involve people becoming one. Rick and Jerry, Summer and Kuato Morty, and the arrival of Unity. While I don’t think it is consistent so far in every episode leading up to the mid season finale, it fits as Rick Prime died but embedded some doubt and maybe some hatefulness to Rick C137. Rick C137 will need to atone with Rick Prime’s damage or Rick Prime will be with him forever.
I really feel like Slo got erased for a reason. Maybe it could be plot related or the writters needed to set something up but they didn't just get rid of him for nothing.... I think

This episode shows how evil Rick Prime really is. He killed his own Dianne.
Without care he erased her. Making all Ricks who they are.
Why did he end up like that
