@@daceuro A right handed bass has the horn always in the way when you play it upside down (That's how I play). A left handed bass strung right handed is much easier to play from an ergonomic point of view. You can reach all the frets. The strap mount is in the right place etc...

Haslip was the man. Replacements did not do him justice..!(sorry felix) Will Kennedy is my all time favorite jazz drummer behind only Tony Williams in my book. Gotta love this stuff !!
Carlos C. Rivera Dane Alderson does pretty well as far as I can tell! Of course, you can barely hear him on the two albums he is on, so who really knows? 😜 #turndaneup
As a lefty or southpaw, when we take a righty bass or guitar, we still play it tuned in 4ths EADG. Remember, the bass or guitar has been flipped upside down in order for us to be able to play it. As I mentioned before, we now have basses available to us lefty's that are strung EADG. We can also choose to string it GDAE if that was the way we learned to play bass.
El virtuoso Bajista JIMMY HASLIP dueño de un portentoso alto sentido rìtmico y sensibilidad mèlodica, pareciera que hubiera estado siempre con la banda!
He most likely learned to play bass using a right-hand version, and played it by holding it in the reverse manner of a right-handed person. Upside down. Back in the days, lefty instruments were hard to come by, so most of us southpaws learned to play in the fashion that I described. As custom models became readily available, we were able to purchase instruments made specifically for us lefty's.
I'd put Jimmy against Jaco everyday and twice on Sunday. If Jimmy had passed in that untimely manor as Jaco did, he'd certainly be celebrated as much if not more than Jaco is. 6 string Bass!
Jimmy is a left handed player but some how plays a right handed bass upside down . Jimmy is a Bass prodigy and yes I agree the Jackets are not the same without Jimmy something vry special about what he added to the Jackets .
So... Let's take a right handed 4 string bass tuned in 4ths EADG. Flip it over to the left, upside down GDAE and it is now tuned in 5ths like a violin or mandolin. Other stringed instruments tuned in 5ths are Violin, Viola, Cello, Tenor Banjo, Mandolin.... etc... That's interesting.
Jimmy "Anonimous" Haslip, è sicuramente bravissimo, ha una tecnica prodigiosa ma suona solo scale pentatoniche in 16 e anche in 32 e fa vedere la sua bravura. Per me suonare è altro.
Why can't most audiences really applaud a great piano solo when they hear one? 4:52 - Haslip looking a bit like the 'Anonymous' face...Having said that, Jimmy is far from that...great solo.

THE GROOVE OF WILL KENNEDY ! ! ! Magnificent group !
Ferrante should be recognized as one of the most talented contemporary musicians.
Jimmy Haslip is left handed and plays a right handed bass upside-down. He is a legend.
Its actually a left handed bass with the strings upside down, which is even more mind blowing.
He'd probably prefer to use a right-handed bass, but then he'd get neck-dive because of the body style difference.
So is Will Kennedy, who has his ride on the left (as opposed to normally on the left).

He started out on his grandfathers old acoustic guitar which had only 4 strings left when he was a kid and he got used to that.
Jimmy Haslip is such an awesome Bassist, cant be topped. Great vid, thanks for uploading.
One of the brightest fusion bands around. All number one!
They are so incredible. They play tight together but each are never on top. Its like a ragtime fusion. Amazing!
Perfect comment.

MAN after that i can’t sleep... my favorite band just killed it again.

EXCELENTE.
Lord have mercy! How are they doing this?
El virtuoso Bajista JIMMY HASLIP dueño de un portentoso alto sentido rìtmico y sensibilidad mèlodica, pareciera que hubiera estado siempre con la banda!
El fue co-fundador junto a Ferrante.
Whoever edited the slow motion shots in should know you don't do that during a live performance. You leave it uninterrupted. Jesus.
True idiocy
That stuff!
They just don't sound the same without Jimmy!
It simply should not be called the YellowJackets anymore... with out Jimmy Haslip. Love all other members though...
genial!!!
Permanent play list resident ! :)
And the oscar goes to ... the punk that did the Slo mo shots !

Guys , Does anyone know what kind of a bass he is playing, is so beautiful , I want to buy one like that, thanks for response.
Yeah, bop this funk!
I wish Jimmy hadn't quit the Yellowjackets. That's all I'm saying.
Haslip & Trujillo..... look alikes (atleast for me :-) )
Nice~
YJ straordinari! Sarei curioso di sapere su cosa hanno da ridire quelle 24 persone che hanno votato col pollice verso
Top
I sometimes wonder where Jimmy goes while he is playing.
Heck yeh
V for Vendetta + Penn Jillette = Jimmy Haslip
PUB Carambar ? merci Monsanto !!! :-(
I'm a drummer... And I wish I could do this
I'd put Jimmy against Jaco everyday and twice on Sunday. If Jimmy had passed in that untimely manor
as Jaco did, he'd certainly be celebrated as much if not more than Jaco is. 6 string Bass!
They were born 30 days apart but Jimmy studied under Jaco for 9 months in 1975 and went on and on about how much he learned from him.
Jimmy is a left handed player but some how plays a right handed bass upside down . Jimmy is a Bass prodigy and yes I agree the Jackets are not the same without Jimmy something vry special about what he added to the Jackets .
Editing. They place certain clips like slow them down, a different scene, because Im looking at Jimmy and he is on it on that bass solo.
Bob Mintzer too
for real
SABORRRR....
Woah that's a big pocket
Wow, an actual jazz band playing at a jazz festival. That's weird..
Just curious my friend. Why do you say this. I think I know what you mean !!!
holy shit. Is this guy playin with a lefty but strings upside down? And he's performing like that? damn
They need Jimmy back, just as they did William for the true Chemistry!

No needs effect for video. Just the way they are.
Hardly call this Jazz. ...Blues-funk
moronic to label this as anything other than brilliant.
