    Jimmy Haslip is left handed and plays a right handed bass upside-down. He is a legend.

    • @PeachyKeena_
      @PeachyKeena_ 7 років тому +10

      Its actually a left handed bass with the strings upside down, which is even more mind blowing.

    • @daceuro
      @daceuro 7 років тому

      He'd probably prefer to use a right-handed bass, but then he'd get neck-dive because of the body style difference.

    • @timroffe9460

      So is Will Kennedy, who has his ride on the left (as opposed to normally on the left).

    • @Oasisbill
      @Oasisbill 5 років тому

      @@daceuro A right handed bass has the horn always in the way when you play it upside down (That's how I play). A left handed bass strung right handed is much easier to play from an ergonomic point of view. You can reach all the frets. The strap mount is in the right place etc...

      He started out on his grandfathers old acoustic guitar which had only 4 strings left when he was a kid and he got used to that.

    Meu grupo preferido, bom gosto, criatividade e coesão no desenvolvimento das frases melódicas ritmicas tudo perfeito.Comecei a acompanhar desde os anos 80 quando se apresentaram em um festival de Jazz no RJ. Naquela época era o saxofonista Marc Russo excepsional improvisador de uma beleza no saxofone alto impressionante, praticamente era o que marcava o grupo.Depois da entrada do Bob Mintzer houve uma mudança mais jazzística belíssima, sempre alto nível.William Kennedy e Marcus Baylor impressionantes na precisão ritmica, simplesmente intocáveis.Meu baixista preferido de bom gosto raro e frases emblemáticas na minha opinião sempre uma marca do grupo Jimmy Haslip.Tenho certeza que toda essa máquina sonora é movida por uma mente brilhante a do pianista Russel Ferrante excepsional.Agradecemos a esse grupo por existir e por preencher nossas vidas com o melhor do jazz moderno.

    As a lefty or southpaw, when we take a righty bass or guitar, we still play it tuned in 4ths EADG. Remember, the bass or guitar has been flipped upside down in order for us to be able to play it. As I mentioned before, we now have basses available to us lefty's that are strung EADG. We can also choose to string it GDAE if that was the way we learned to play bass.

    He most likely learned to play bass using a right-hand version, and played it by holding it in the reverse manner of a right-handed person. Upside down. Back in the days, lefty instruments were hard to come by, so most of us southpaws learned to play in the fashion that I described. As custom models became readily available, we were able to purchase instruments made specifically for us lefty's.

    I'd put Jimmy against Jaco everyday and twice on Sunday. If Jimmy had passed in that untimely manor
    as Jaco did, he'd certainly be celebrated as much if not more than Jaco is. 6 string Bass!

  • @IamUncledeuce

    So... Let's take a right handed 4 string bass tuned in 4ths EADG. Flip it over to the left, upside down GDAE and it is now tuned in 5ths like a violin or mandolin. Other stringed instruments tuned in 5ths are Violin, Viola, Cello, Tenor Banjo, Mandolin.... etc... That's interesting.
