Increasing nutrition on Sheep and Goats

- If your kidding or lambing in May like us, you will want to start increasing the nutrition of the livestock as the kids, lambs start growing larger and the mother is gearing up to produce milk.

I was wondering if you run sheep and goats together , particularly at breeding season
We have sheep and want some goats but do not have the infastructur to keep the two species separate
We run them together until breeding season. I've heard you could have problems if you breed them together. Sheep breed goats then abort and go out of heat.
We been running our sheep and goats together for almost 3 years , the only problem we had was the ram and buck would try to block each other from breeding but we got kids and lambs every year.
Do you use the tubs when you are feeding grains also or is this a situation of one or the other. Hay and tubs or grain and hay

It depends. If you are protein defecient when growing out lambs or kids on grain, you will need some protein also. Maybe tubs are your best choice or some other option for protein. If you are on dry grass in the winter you may want to supplement protein to get more digestion from the dry grass. If you have stockpiled fescue, you may not need extra protein at all. You may need to send off forage samples to see what is lacking, and if you need to supplement anything. Make sense?

What are your thoughts on unrolling alfalfa for supplementing protein? My ewes will be lambing in May and are on a cover crop mix that is mostly just sudan left that they’re eating on. They’re still doing well on it and there’s quite a bit left for them to eat but I’m planning on unrolling alfalfa for them every couple days starting any time now.
The tubs are running about 105.00 here in West Virginia
