@@bajorekjon yeah he clearly got a better emotionally and mentally and with his family each season, although very slightly. Melfi both helped and hurt almost every aspect in Tonys life.

I always liked that they actually addressed the whole criticism that any well-meaning shrink wouldn't try to help a mafia boss. Was Melfi naive the whole time? Or perhaps it was a bit of professional arrogance * pride, refusing to admit it was always a lost cause? That would mean her treatment of Tony was more about assuaging her personality than Tony's. In the end, she "catches up" to what other people had been telling her all along: he will never change for the better - give up.
The critique of the show in that regard kind of always ignored that part of the plot was this very issue ! Melfi's intellectual conflict is really a stand-in for ours.

BTW Asia and BJ… *NEW YORK* has *FIVE FAMILIES* that the small *NEW JERSEY* Crew has to report to in real life. For whatever reason this show basically left the other 4 NY families out of it. NJ can’t do anything without going through NY or they’d be toast.

    • @mattwatson
      @mattwatson 29 днів тому

The Soprano's are based on the Decavalcante family, they aren't under any of the 5 families of New York so don't have to report to them.
Most of the 5 families have their own crews in jersey and some of them alone are now bigger than the Decavalcantes.
The Genovese and Lucchese New Jersey factions are the most powerful families in Jersey now, they are almost their own families with bosses and a lot of independence from their families in New York. Then you have the Philadelphia Mobs jersey faction who are very powerful in south jersey, including Atlantic city.

If you guys want to re visit the show in a great way after it’s done Michael Imperioli (who played Christopher) and Steve Schirripa (who played Bobby) made a podcast on UA-cam a few years ago called Talking Sopranos. They rewatched then broke down all 86 episodes in order and each one they invited an actor from the show on for an interview. I honestly learned 100X about the making of the show and what happened behind the scenes from hearing all of their stories and recounting it, really fascinating stuff you’d never have known otherwise. I also believe they started it in April of 2020 and let me tell you it was one of the only things that got me through the pandemic 😂

Song in the ending of 19th episode is somewhat important. It was a darker version of a common Italian lullaby called "Ninna Nanna," and the lyrics partly are being sung by a mother speaking to her son Antoneddu (Sardinian for 'little Anthony'), telling him that she would rather see him dead before becoming a bandit in the countryside like his father. Also I think that in the end Tony is out of charachter, when they say that he can't bring pizza inside. Because usually he likes to argue but in here he just looks defeated.

Top 5 HBO Series ranked by me.
    01. The Wire
    02. The Sopranos
    03. Game of Thrones
    04. Deadwood
    05. Oz
    You're getting there. ;)

I'd put Succession 3rd, because the others either had terrible endings (GoT & Dexter), or were cancelled before they finished (Deadwood). And yeah... Dexter isn't even on HBO.

Ugh. Aj's attempt is so heart breaking!!!!! Gets me every time!
Also, regarding Dr. Melfi ... I get it but also, she allowed her personal life to get in the way of treating Tony. And as someone who's majored in forensic psychology ...it was very unprofessional the way she handled it. Breaks my heart.
My poor Bobby & Sil 💔🙏🏼

The Sopranos was the first TV series that combined movie production values, gritty realism and character arcs. Imho the only other series that came close or equalled it was The Wire. Next for you? 😊 lotta luv
