FYI Mercedes Benz transmissions are great for Jeep Wranglers. When my 5 speed NV3500 failed I installed a 6 speed from a 2004 era Benz. Swap out the bell housing from the old unit and modify some wiring it was easy!
I test drove a MB 560SL several years ago. It was a great drive as this was one of my dream cars in my teenager years. One thing for sure, I would modify the suspension if I ever own one. The looks and power are definitely there but it seriously needed some improvement in the handling department.
I’m guessing they added bigger brakes, that would justify the need for 17 inch wheels. But overall I agree with you, wheels look a bit too big for the car.
I miss this car they aren’t to be underestimated these things can rip. Also I think your wheels are pre monoblock they’re Amg aero ii’s which are the correct wheel for the period
Nice car wow! Gearbox is probably from the E34 V8 540i with the 6 gear manual gearbox: Getrag S6S 560G. Hope that info helped you out (?). Anyway, nice channel and great cars. 👍🏻
That’s a cool set of mods. I wonder if the gearbox comes from a BMW 540i? I think they could be had a with 6 speed around that time and as a torquey V8 it probably has a more suitable set of ratios than the revvy six in the E46 M3?
at bespoke in costa mesa they have done them with e39 bell housings and cutting and pasting. Carbu stuff is cool but gotta pay to play. Headers are from elbe engineering in estonia
Man, it really hurts to see you let your hand sit on the gear stick constantly! Puts load on the linkages and causes wear. Never do that. Hands should both be on the steering wheel anyway.

The SL that made 240hp was the 500 and if you've driven both variants the difference is obvious in favour of the 500SL. Cool fact is a 500SL was the very last car off the R107 production line when it finished in 1989.
Amg aero ii’s very rare pre merger wheel and very expensive. You can get monoblocks a lot cheaper but the edges will be more rounded and won’t look as good as these.

A nv3500 and a nsg370 are not remotely compatible. A 6 speed jeep and a 6 speed Mercedes trans are both nsg370. Nice story though.

Actually Bmw does not make gearboxes they buy them from zf and getrag.

yeah i dont think it was a euro car. i think it was a USA or canada car with retrofit euro bumpers. All of the gauges were in mph.
