    What this club needs to understand is you need to finish 2nd this year or we play our PF at the SCG or GABBA….if we get that far. Sad knowing the age of Cripps, Charlie, Harry, Weiters, Saad, Doc etc. The time is NOW! If we can’t make this list win a premiership during this window then unfortunately it’s a long cycle back to the glory days.

    Regardless of poor player selection, poor positioning and other factors we just don't have the desire and endeavour to contest and wear down the opposition. At this level you cant afford to carry 3 or more players week in week out. Unless a miracle occurs we are stuffed. As it stands playing in a GF is pie in the sky and dropping out of the 8 is a very real possibility.

    Good review as usual Bucky. I agree the Cincotta experiment is overcooked and he doesnt get enough of his own ball. Surely we'll go back to having no dedicated tagger. Need to have faith in our own mids to win the contested ball. They have shown theyre capable of it. That said, Walsh does look out of sorts and if he's injured rest him. Go back to the tried n tested guys in their positions now. Cerra - mid, Cincotta - HBF, or interchange as utility, Hewitt can be the mid run with player if needed (would prefer him just to get his own ball (as everyone should) and beat their direct opp player, Kennedy (who was ok fwd) - mid, Young - Key Def. Without naming the non performers (we all know who they are) they can't keep being gifted games hoping they'll get a decent game together at some stage.

    Spot on Bucky ( as usual) .After this game, I questioned whether we had improved at all, and on paper, you would would be questioning that .I personally now feel we have gone back to not being trusted! I understand the need for role players , but there are so many guys that just dont contribute or make an impact, and it's left to just a few , this needs to Improve if we One play finals , or longterm have any success!
    Voss's game plan is built around contest and clearance, and this is a bruising way to play . It takes its toll, and our blokes look sore and pedestrian .Interesting next Three weeks .

    We seem to lack the intensity over 4 quarters that we had 6 weeks ago
    And our mids are getting spanked but i think we showed earlier this year and last that we can fix things and improve on the run. Hard to explain the drop off in our mids.
    Look at Swans though, they've also dropped 4 of 5 and ppl aren't dropping off them completely
    At this stage it looks like Lions gonna be the team to beat imo

    For the worst ground ball team in defensive 50 I don’t know why we didn’t just kick it to the ground in the forward 50 and create chaos for the smalls. We just kept persisting with the predictable high ball to Charlie which aliir picked off again and again. No plan b for the last month . Not looking good

    Take the best ruckmen, best forward, best wingman and best small forward for the year out of a team, throw in a 5 day break, against a team that can beat anyone on their day and you get a 2 goal loss. However in a premiership year, these are the wins you achieve through adversity. There’s still an inkling of ‘it’s a bit too hard’ about the team. They should have won that game on grit.

    feeling f...k mate. i have listened to all your audios this year, but choose to make no comment after the horrific know it all AFL experts decided to tell me I know nothing after calling our season after the Adelaide loss at home. We do not have a game plan under Voss which stacks up.
    There is nothing about Voss's team selections, game style, player development to demonstrate things will change anytime soon.
    This game along with Pies and Hawks will go to script.
    As for players, i suggest we ice Walsh now and get him sorted. Walsh missing a preseason has been a disaster. He does not have the pace and hets caught holding the ball or making poor decisions by foot.
    You said 2 years ago Cotterill is a frightened farmer. He playes bruise free footy and looks like Jaiden Stephenson out there.
    Never play Young again.
    Cut injury prone players end of year. Marchbank, Cunningham, Durdin.
    O.Hollands is a kid and we expect a lot of him. Like all kids he makes a lot of mistakes.
    We are not just playing poorly, we have far to many injuries to manage and players who do not step up

    Lost all trust in them mate . Collingwood , even at their lowest , will still find a way next week to put us away. I'm trying to think ..........when was Cera's last really great game , people are saying they're playing him in the wrong position , but when was his last dominant midfield game , not this year . Things have gone pear shaped since the club brought back in players off injury when we were in the midst of something special that put us 6 points clear in second . Appears to have totally changed the hunger we had . The line-up should have stayed the same until it wasn't working . Then make changes .

    The one thing I have never trusted is the mental aptitude of this team. Even through the strong performances it’s always been there in the background. Never being able to finish off a side, allowing sides to go on momentum runs and end up just fall over the line. Way too many players that are fragile both physically and mentally and until that is fixed, this team wont win anything. Scary part is, time is running out for a few and the competition is only becoming stronger.

    I thought we were lucky to be in front at 3/4 time. I don't know what was said to them at half time, but we played like we wanted to kill the game and hold our lead. It was slow play mode every time. They should know there averages on getting a shot at goal from slow play. Coaches need to be really careful and very specific instructing kids to control the ball because players like control, they feel good when its not chaotic. Chaotic football is stressful by nature and given a choice players will choose control. Problem is control may get you temp relief but it won't get you goals. However Its fixable, I can think of half a dozen things that will fix it so i just hope the coaches can also.

    To kick 1 goal after HT was and let port run over us was just deflating. Whether the 5 day break played a part; after all the players aren’t robots, but what I do know is that no one mentioned the 5 day break back in R12 when we ran on top of Port.
    Irrespective of our outs I thought that was a cowardly coaching performance. It doesn’t surprise me that young played forward, because this coach of ours has shown us multiple times that he will play anyone forward except McGovern, the best forward at the club after Curnow and McKay. McGovern has now twice confirmed that he has asked Voss to play forward and it is evidently falling on deaf ears. In our game v North at HT on fox they spoke to Charlie comben, who said he asked Clarko about playing up forward alongside larkey. Clarko has been happy to facilitate that and said they’re undecided on where he’ll play long term. How many games have hawks won because Sam Mitchell has played Sicily forward? Yet McGovern can’t even play a minute forward. We have more resources than any other club, yet we are continuing to shoot ourselves in the foot because of our decisions, and lack of decisions in the coaching box and match committee.
    It’s also very clear that kemp and McGovern are not 1 on 1 defenders. McGovern was good offensively but struggled on georgiades, and kemp couldn’t handle esava. This shouldn’t be a position we need to fill because we had a gun CHB in Liam jones (watching the swans game now and he’s putting on a clinic). All we had to do is treat his situation like an ACL. He won’t play in 2022 but he’ll be back a year later so long as he stays in fit condition. But no, Voss decided he didn’t want someone like Liam jones and has again unnecessarily put us on the back foot, and is trying to turn kemp into a key back man. Clubs are well and truly aware of this. Clarko sends comben forward, bottom 10 ken of all people puts esava forward. I think Dixon after HT realised he’s no match for weitering so he just decided to hold him up and prevent him from getting to as many contests as possible and it certainly helped the power.
    I didn’t come out of that game and think that port are a serious premiership contender. I thought their pressure and contest work was excellent and ours wasn’t at the level. And when that happens it means our defence and reliance on weitering gets exposed. It means our offence and reliance on Curnow and McKay gets exposed. And ultimately it means our system gets exposed. There’s still time to get ourselves together but we better get a move on.

    100% Coaching & selection issue for me! Can't be personel! The players are all AFL players, who were drafted for a reason. There playing ability. The players (Believe it or not) all have the fundamentals down to an elite level! They have had them nailed since under 10's. So it's all bullshit mindset due to poor coaching. It's obvious that they are being coached to bomb the fuckin ball inside 50 every single fuckin time! & relying on Charlie & harry making the ball, but instead the opposition constantly waltz it out of there! Then they are instucted to kick the ball long down the line every single fuckin time, with no Carlton representation..Instead of changing the angles etc..All the fumbling, decision making & confusion, is all due to poor coaching, as the player seem to not know what's going on! Voss's selections & coaching (or lack of coaching) in game, is horrendous! Something weird going on at club/board level, as Voss obviously knows how to win games of football, finals & Grand Finals & has played under leigh Mathews. Unfortunately we all now know what I've said all along that we're not a premiership threat in any shape way or form as we have zero defensive mindset. Our forwards can't lock the ball up in our front half, our mids can't I the middle nor our backs. The number one trait of all premiership teams is their ability to defend. To deny the opposition the ball and the will to beat your man when the ball is in dispute.
    So the change I would like to see this week in our team is laziness out, attitude in.
    Defending is a mindset not a skill set. Until that changes, nothing else will !

We still have no idea who the 2nd ruck option is - young played all the year down back for the vfl , you are right not to criticise him. It felt like in the 2nd half we decided at halftime to just defend the lead . We are not a control the ball type team. I still don’t know how the afl can put us the last game on a Sunday and then first game next round. The last time we played port we both had a 5 day break. I might be proved wrong this week but I think we play the G better than marvel. I know they're blaming the 5 day break for conceding in the second half.. but one goal for two quarters was disgraceful. They wont have that excuse this week because its an 8 day break.
    I think as a club we can get a lot of momentum if we can get one over our arch rivals next week.
    Cowan defends strongly, but he isn't a great kick.. like Boyd. I dont get why Boyd is out... i think we need some X factor third forward type like Martin, do we just bring him back in, I would be in favour of that. Acres and McKay obviously sorely missed, hopefully they're straight back in.
    I don't know what is happening with our midfield, Port obviously had their full contingent. We arent getting much from Carroll and Cunningham was a wasted selection. We seem to be one or two quality mids short. Would it be worth trying someone like Binns or Lord? . cant be much worse.

    Obviously labouring. Just not running on top of the ground. Praying it is due to a heavy loading at training (may explain the Swans dip as well). The swings in form in the AFL have been stark and quick so holding on to the hope our midfield get back to form quickly. Midfield need to lift both offensively (inside 50's are so low) and defensively (bar Weitering, our backs rely on support and they are just not getting much with the quick movement). Walsh lacking power and zip and his form correlates with the team's form showing how important he is to us. He seems to be just holding onto the ball too long.Probably because of lack of support. Watched the Giants up close last night and they barely hold onto the ball for a second before they offload with numbers always nearby. At the end of the day, we need to sustain our pressure and contest for longer. Hopefully we are getting extra miles in the legs to take us all the way to the last Saturday in September. Loved curried eggs (been years since I've had one though - might give mum a call).

    Let's get real here, Mediocrity has been at this club for years! We do not develop the kids coming up, and don't throw them in, Yea, Binns is an example for sure! As for Voss he has become delusional, playing guys out of position, and no other game plan than kick it down the line and bomb it into the 50 Players are been gifted games who should be dropped! Out should be, Kemp, slowies, Cottrell, and how Ollie keeps getting a gig is beyond me, he is turnover central with Kemp!

    Spewing we had no H and Acres - thought we might have one of those great Q4 from a month ago :(
    My burning questions;
    When things arent working out have we forgotten plan b or dont we have one?
    Who is #3 behind Crippa and Walsh that can stand up?
    When looking at replays and analysis as soon as the opposition gets it on the outside we arent anywhere to be seen - are we just reacting and ball following!?

  • @NazSibaei
    @NazSibaei 2 місяці тому +1

    We lost this game when Harry pulled out. This caused them to triple team Charlie and freed Ratugulia to play forward which stretched our shithouse defence.
    Harry plays Rat plays back and the outcome is different.
    That said, Voss has a clear issue. He has no plan B. If we don’t win contested possession we fall to shit.
    Teams guard the centre square against us which forces us down the wing which is not our natural game. Voss doesn’t have a plan to combat this.
    They sit on Cripps and Walsh and we fall to shit. Again he doesn’t have a plan to combat this.
    Cotteral is shit. Young is shit. Cowan and ollie need to get dropped.
    Our bottom 6 players are rubbish. This is why we are inconsistent.

    • @NazSibaei
      @NazSibaei 2 місяці тому +1

      Furthermore, how can you get consistency making 4-5 changes a week? That’s 25% of the squad turned over every week. How is the team supposed to gel?

      Wasn't our players and coaches "mantra" that we are stronger together, and that we play for each other, and to make each other better ?
      What happened to that belief in each other? Can we get that back, or are we doomed to self destruct? The Grand Final is never won, on the merits
      of one coach, or player, as an individual. Let's not forget that.
