He’s so beautiful. Like it’s unreal how handsome he is
"How can you take George Harrison for granted?"
"It's quite easy - like this!" LOVED IT!!!!!
Really admire and respect George’s remarks in many interviews: so smart, grounded and mature.
An admirable person.
Not particularly smart.
George was the best beatle in my opinion...❤️
When I was a kid and discovered their music in the mid-70's, I couldn't understand for the life of me why they wouldn't get back together? Forty years later with a ton of life experience under my belt, I can't understand why anyone would expect them to want to get together again. George's analogy of it being like expecting someone to go back to school is perfect... Man do I miss him....
EXACTLY what happened to me, Jalleel.
It's a shame we generally consider school to be an unenjoyable experience, some would say it'd be nice to go back to school, but you rarely hear it. I had mixed feelings, sometimes school had some very cool moments, but most of the time it felt like a prison for children to stay in while parents work.
I don't think he was saying school was an not an enjoyable experience. I think he meant that he moved beyond The Beatles and didn't look back. Going back to The Beatles in his mid 30s would be like going back to high school at 30ish; he would have felt kind of out of place.
What he means is "it's like apprenticeship" with his own words... so nor good, nor bad, his Beatles years is the place where he grew up as a musician/man/businessman: after more than 10 years non stop with the other guys he needed to move on to something different, work with other people, other projects, being himself and not 'only' work and exist as a Beatle entity, recording and playing for the Beatles and being tagged as Beatles for anything he would do in his woking & private life.
@Dallas Brubaker George hated school so much that he dropped out at the age of 15 and became an electrician's apprentice for a very brief spell. He even encouraged his son, Dhani, on occasion to go truant, which Dhani wouldn't. True.

I think "This Song" should have been a bigger hit. It was such a good song.
The video to it, was cool too. George in a courtroom, arguing his case about copyright infringement. A bit Pythonesque.
@@waynej2608 That video in top-10 ever made 🤩
Such a funny insightful and articulate guy. Smart as a whip. Love you George !
George had a good handle on his place in the Universe. Just because we wanted the magic of The Beatles to live on, it was not to be. Maybe its best that they just left us the magical songbook that they did!
He also had a good handle on his guitar case. It came loose now and again but some WD-40 and a decent screwdriver always fixed the little critter.
@@wanderer1955 And he used to say it, 'handle me with care'.
@@waynej2608 Wha! Wha! What are you talking about? (Joking)
Personally I'm glad they never reformed! The magic never died.
I agree 100% with Liam Mccarron
If they reformed it would have been stunning because they were so talented how could it not have been
George looking like a snacc here, sweet lord
@Janetta Martin He surely was, but by 1976 he is starting to show his age and actually he is only about 33 or 34 here. In his prime he was exceptional. He is still not bad here. Too bad he smoked so damn much.
@@m.e.d.7997 wow he looked much older than 33, even a heavy smoker can look his/her age or younger

@@Visualizemyfuture Yes, true.
George and this Joel fellow are the most '70s looking humans ever put on film here.
The Beatles were a band of their time. It's almost poetic that they fit entirely into the 1960s. I'm glad they never tried to reform during the 70s.
I love 33/13. One of my favorite alums of all time. Miss you George.
Thank god they didn't get back together, I prefer Beatles as a 60s phenomenon, the legend came to an end along with the decade they belong to.
I agree and disagree with you at the same time, if that makes any sense
The Beatles in 1980? You be the judge.

Totally agree. I just wish they would have gotten togehter in '69, had a beer, toasted what they accomplished and parted amiably.
Thank you for this. Thank you George.
The chemistry was phenomenal.
did anyone else find George really hot in this video? ^^

Biggest George fan.Yes, super hot.
😧😧😧😍😍😍😍😍 👍👍👍👍
He's the hottest! But my fav was the 69' George, so damn hot!
even if the Beatles did get back together it would not be the same

Thank God the Beatles did not reunite in the late 70s or 80s (if John had not died). Imagine a Beatles album incorporating the sound of late 70s disco, or a Beatles album with 80s synthesizers or gated drums on it. The Beatles ended right when they should have.
Exactly right! Look at the Rolling stones for proof. Embarrassing!

It’s one hell of a $living$ though!🤑
People are overlooking that the Beatles did not ride trends. They MADE them. They were always way ahead of the times, and would’ve found a way to stand out in the biggest way no matter what
@@tommymckai Yes, and I thought this point would've been obvious.
The Beatles were so talented to anything they would have done together would have been good it's just that simple
George's songwriting was squeezed out by Paul and John so much. "All Things Must Pass" is proof of all the songs he sat on. Must have irked George no end. R.I.P.
Lucas Robinette, like what? A whiner, cry baby who didn't want to be a Beatle. Fed up with his sorry personality and his mostly crappy songs. I have to be in a vety big mood to listen to him and then only for like 6 songs before his melancholy BS gets on my nerves.
You're dumb lol
Armando Ramos no one cares
Barnaby ap Robert Definitely. George grew into a classic songwriter at a time that John and Paul were at less than their best. They needed a fresh perspective in their work. George’s increased contributions would have been incredible in Let It Be and Abbey Road, had his catalogue been given the time of day. But it wasn’t to be. (Can you imagine What Is Life instead of Maxwell’s Silver Hammer on Abbey Road? Or All Things Must Pass and Isn’t It a Pity added to Let It Be?)
The Maine Surveyor
Get SERIOUS! ATMP was a few good songs and the rest was rubbish. Watch LET IT BE .., as Paul and JOHN show him how to compose SOMETHING after ripping off James Taylor. He ripped off MY SWEET LORD. “ The only thing that GREW was his petulant self importance which he owed to being the LEAST stressed BEATLE. Ringo JOHN and Paul had to be going full tilt. How hard is an occasional 5-10 second lead?
You HARRISON FANS are delusional
Imagine being in The Beatles being your apprenticeship.
Every other Band gave in and grabbed the CA$H and ran. The Beatles never caved and did it just for the money. 50 million was a TON of cash back in 1976(not that it's not now) and they just laughed it off. That's Integrity and respect for the fans.
Sorry, respect for the fans is keeping band together and touring !
Zoran Kamenicki Wow are you clueless! Yeah examples such as The Who or as they should be called "Who's Left" . As great as The Eagles are they are only doing it for the MONEY! Remember the old quote "When hell freezes over" or as it turned out unworldly amounts of CASH helped freeze their distain for each other. Same for The Police. And that's ok. If people want to pay $300 plus per ticket, why not take it. Plus they probably owe the record company tons of cash. 50 million in 76 would be a Billion today. And the 3 remaining could have made that easy if they gave in to the demand for them to tour after the Anthology project. Respect for the fans. Having been in radio for 30 years I've seen the real side. Respect for the fans, That's funny!
+Zoran Kamenicki
That's nuts. Beatles went thru hell and fans rushed at them with scissors to cut their hair off. Is that respect for the band? 10 years of beatlemania was enough for them. As George said, the fans only gave their money and shouting voices but the Beatles gave their nervous systems.

Can you imagine the 4 of them on stage together in 2020 playing to 50,000+
If the four of them got on stage for one concert they can pipe it all across the world and probably just about everybody on the planet would be watching it ..they could earn or raise so much money they would never be able to count it all
Only 50,000?

Joel: "What delighted me most today is I found out George Harrison is six months older than I am... Roger."
Roger: "No Comment. Hoping your news is good news. I'm Roger Grimsby."
Ouch burn. All very Ron Burgundy. You stay classy San Diego
And on a personal note, this interview was done on my birthday!🎂👍
I remember Roger Grimsby and the other guy, Bill Beutell, from eyewitness news, growing up in NY. I thought that Roger's last name really suited him. A rather 'grim' sort of fella, at least as he sometimes came across. Beutell was better. Imho. And who can forget Rosanne Scarmedelo (unsure of the spelling), who was a remote reporter and the inspiration for Gilda Radner's, Rosanne Rossannadanna. 😃

@@waynej2608 hello Richard they do look like real characters .. create an interesting mix in the studio for sure. 70s get a bad press nowadays but were good fun in a lot of ways, much less worry, less stress, more fun especially on TV. We had a presenter in the UK John Noakes ... producer thinks yeah let's send him up Nelson's column (very tall monument in London) to help clean it ... so up he goes, platform shoes and flares, and a cameraman went with him! Terrifying but great tv. Never happen today! ... as an aside this was good timing for an interview as Lennon had dropped a few hints in 74 that 76 would be the year to reform as Beatles contract ended that year... ahh if only ... take care buddy cheers
Here you go richard, Noakes goes up Nelson's column without safety ropes!! Sweaty palms watching this... there's a great bit when he's going over the edge in a chair to do some cleaning and the man showing him how to do it ... loosen this rope, slide that knot do this do that ... but 'don't slack that knot off'. Terrifying!!

LOVE OF MY LIFE.
Interesting that in George's mind they had been broken up for 8 years. This would place his sense of when the band ended at 1968, circa White Album. I guess that was when solo albums began to be released.
The 60s were the optimistic years, the Beatles were perfect for it but they wouldn't have worked in the cynical 70s, had they all lived we would've seen a reunion in more recent years
The Beatles did many cynical songs too. Yeah, they were mostly upbeat in their first few records, but then things changed.
I think they would have eventually got back together, probably for the "Anthology" project. Though the technically did reunite for the project, it most likely have been on a grander scale, possibly an "Anthology 4" consisting of re-recordings and all-new material. There may have even been a live concert or two. Damn that Mark Chapman!!!!
George played on John's albums alot and Ringo's...he never played on Paul's. I think its because Paul knew excatly what he wanted on his songs and told George often when and WHAT to play...
Good to hear the lack of uptalk in an interview-- before now when almost everyone uptalks in
interviews.
The year 1976 might as well have been a year on another planet in another galaxy than the one we currently are experiencing -- And perhaps it was -- Sure seems that way.
2:55 "like this" did they not notice George made fun of them?
“The Beatles was kind of like our apprenticeship” LMAO
@
Couldn't disagree more. They were two and George was only one. Truth be told , he smoked both of them.
The proof of their getting back was Free As A Bird and Real Love; songs which, I’m sure most fans would admit, lacked the earlier Beatles’ spark
Moot point. The missing spark was Lennon, himself. You cannot go by on the 'Threetles' recording project. I'm sure if John had still been living and they had gotten back together for the Anthology, they would've come up with something from scratch, not some old Lennon demos from the 70's.
@@crapple009 I totally agree.
With that said, I really like the two tunes they did salvage. I guess, I thought, it's better than nothing, or not hearing John sing at all. Cheers.
They just added their input to two songs that John had written if the four of them were still alive and back together they would have written a bunch of different songs of course
Well they did get back together once more ... kind of ... and the synergystic magic was still there when they made 2 hits with Lennon's unfinished recordings he left behind of "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love". Free As A Bird is also an amazing music video done obviously by fans with intimate knowledge of the Beatles.
That isn't bad news dummy. George made such beautiful music after he left the Beatles, that we would have never heard had he stayed in.
George was liberated on his own.
Why the "dummy" insult? Completely unnecessary.
Oliva is a raven haired beauty, wow. Bet she has fit body and sweet spirit too
It is painful to watch him put that cigarette into his mouth.
I think he just enjoyed life the way he wanted it.
Why he smoked big deal get over it must of my family never smoked cancer get them so er go it don’t fucking matter you gotta die of something he enjoyed his life and what he put in his body was his own concern he left us great music I’m thankfull he was around
Yeah, it's painful for George to be doing that.
Is painful not for the cancer he later died of, is sad because of what he preached, liberation through Krishna, while he couldn't liberate himself from Nicotine, Paul Mccartney stoped smoking and never preached liberation of some kind.
I think getting stabbed had something to do with it aswell
If they had managed to get back together to do their hits...it would of been magical as they could utilize modern equipment so they could hear themselves play. If they stayed together long enough to write new material...it would of been even better. These were no ordinary musicians and in fact would of wrote as three. Beatlemania would of happened all over again....just with less hysterics.
I believe your assessment is quite correct
Great interview, best channel for George videos on youtube!
I don't think this is Los Angeles, I think it is WABC-TV in New York which Siegel joined in 1976.
The ABC affiliate in New York is WABC.
The ABC affiliate in Los Angeles is KABC.
They are both broadcast on channel 7
The both have similar logos
They both have an “Eyewitness News” and the sets look the same (blue background)
It is really easy to confuse them.
This was definitely NY.
George didnt even know how long it had been!
When people asked George that tiresome question it would've been funny if he'd just said: "No." And just stared the interviewer down until they changed the topic.
why does it feel like the 70s were "20 or 30 years later", the beatles and the whole 60s thing was still so recent but it felt like it happened a long time ago.
compare it to now, it feels like 2000 is closer to us than what 1976 was to 1964. I don't know how to explain better what I mean.
I ponder the same thing. I remember listeing to the radio in the early 80s, pre-1985. They would play the golden oldies of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and even though some songs they played were only 10 or 15 years old, it just felt like those songs were from ages ago. And the DJs treated those songs as such. Yet, I remember, in the late 2010s, listening to the radio and the DJ played Janet Jackson's Control (from 1986)l, as if it were just another song. It's like the people in the 80s knew the 50s, 60s, and 70s were something special. Yet, from the 80s onwards, everything becomes blurred together. Even my 20 year old nephew plays songs from the 90s as if those songs were recent, recorded yesterday. It's hard to explain, yet I understand where you're coming from. For me, 2022 feels closer to 2000 (or even 1990 or 1980) than 1980 felt to 1976. It's like the 50s, 60s, and 70s are in some sort of bubble, whereas everything that came after melds together.
@@thehighllama8101 it's not just music, look a the clothes, colors, cars, furniture, it's like each decade or even each year had its own "identity".
Gene Shalit hit it right. The real reason the 1970s and 1980s wanted a Beatles Reunion was to somehow restore the 1960s. The Lads understood that was impossible. They finished a couple of Lennon's old songs, and Paul and Ringo record pretty often, and that's how it should have been.
Era increíble george
Oh Lord I got sooooo tired of hearing these interviewers asking if The Beatles are getting back together. I was 8yrs old when the Beatles hit the big time in America and I was a HUGE fan but I grew up after I got married and didn't care if they got back together or not. I wonder why the Beatle members' heads didn't explode after fielding that same question over and over again.
SiSenior The last people that should have interviewed the solo Beatles was...interviewers. Same old stupid reunion questions. How insulted do you think Paul was, when Wings were reaching new heights in the 70s, that he was constantly being asked if his old group was going to reunite?
HEY!!! HIS MUSTACHE IS AWESOME!!!
The fans wanted the Beatles back but the Beatles didn't.

Oliva was very pretty!
Nice look for George, very honest and open. Did not hear a no just what it would take and he's right that would've put them at the very top yet again. No telling how great that would've sounded and the tours that followed. We got robbed of that in New York, sorry I still get upset.

@@waynej2608 Definitely! They sure were a striking couple.
no comment is a perfect answer
I heard Paul McCartney say in an interview that if they had got back together (and this was in the late '70s) they probably wouldn't have the same chemistry they had in the '60s and it would be a let down. I don't know if he was making excuses or thats just how he felt. Bands who broke up years ago and try to recapture the magic don't always do so, so he may have had a point.
+beatleman69
Paul just trying to find a way to make it feel ok I think. McCartney would have got back together in a heart beat, Ringo likewise, George I think would have joined in if the vibe was right even if he was little dismissive of the Beatles thing... so it was all down to John, in the end it always was John's band and, sadly for us, he just didn't want the circus back.
+O Hembers You know... I think you are 90 % correct, but... As a Lifelong Beatles fan, who worked in the Music Biz for 20 years, and studied The Beatles carreer and personalities, my humble opinion has always been this.. I think Paul, Ringo & John would have jammed together again eventually, and ONLY IN SECRET. John would obviously HAD TO DIG how THAT went ! Then, George would have been the Final one to come back to it, once he saw the other 3 were enjoying it! THIS would only happen obviously IF John HAD lived PAST about 1985, there would have HAD TO come a time where a few things would have fallen into place, that would have made him want to play with the other 3 Beatles again. AN EXAMPLE ? His Son Sean, at about age 10 to 15 saying: "Y'know Dad, IT WOULD be great !" The NHL Hockey Legend MARIO LEMIEUX came out of retirement, partly because his 5 year old Son wanted to see him play again !!! (Just my Theory...or perhaps my Fantasy.)
+beatleman69 True ! ...And sometimes they get back together after a long absence, and it feels like the Magic has returned !
+beatleman69 - John Lennon said pretty much the same thing numerous times. John said they never could have lived up to the hype that would have been placed on them again.
I am glad the Eagles got back together in 1994 at least they still drew a crowd and now with the passing of Glenn Frey, don't know if they'll even continue.
You I never understood him being sued for plagiarism for He's So Fine when MSL sounds more inspired from the gospel song Oh Happy Day!!
Actually, George himself cited Oh Happy Day as inspiration for MSL.
Apart from a few songs here and there by George and John - McCartney was the most successful. None of them were ever really "that good" in the post-Beatle era. But together, they were in a class that nobody could touch.
Actually, I think most fans would agree that George got better. It was at the end of the band's career that he learned and mastered slide guitar, and that the world got to hear ALL of his singing/songwriting.

Why did all of these doofusses think that they HAD to ask a Beatle about a reunion? It must have driven them bonkers to be asked about that constantly when they were there to promote their latest solo project. I guess that they knew they had to deal with them in order to promote any new project.
