Awesome - glad you enjoyed it! Pre-1850 featherie and pre-1900 gutty golf have become my favorite eras of hickory golf and I’m looking forward to showing more of both on the channel.
Fantastic vlog Christian! It's great to see the clubs in action, and on a really cool course too. Featherie golf is the way the game was meant to be played. Thanks for bringing us along.
One of the best overall looking rounds I’ve seen you put together! Once we get ride of those blow up holes you’ll be consistently in the 40’s! Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see your progress!!
Thanks, man! Yeah, I agree - this would have been a really good round without that 9, especially with the featherie. Glad the practice I’m putting in is showing.
My son and I are going to try to play Highland Links sometime this summer. My wife wants to go to the ocean on the Cape. so while she's on the beach we'll play Highland. Looks like a very interesting course, and of course I'll be playing my vintage clubs - persimmon woods, forged blade irons and wedges, and vintage putter.
Thanks! And yes, absolutely. My best shots were ones that took advantage of the terrain with a lower trajectory and a lot of roll out. You definitely can’t muscle a featherie.
@@TheHickoryHacker I noticed that hitting them around my yard. I hope to play my first full featherie round in a few weeks. I want to hit them a bit around the house before taking them out. $30 per ball makes it a bit of a gamble, lol.
Great round! One of your best videos. Curious as to how the ball held up. Didn’t know how much play a feathery could take. Looking forward to your next round
Thanks! The ball held up surprisingly well. The photo I used with the clubs at the beginning of the video is what it looked like after the round. This particular version of the Lane featherie is the newest one, which is harder and more durable than the previous. Denny Lane showed me a ball he hit 90 times into a backyard net and it was still completely playable.
That looks a great course. I'm a bit stuck in gutty ball hickory - replica feather ball clubs seem a bit more difficult to source in the UK. Got to give it a try sometime though.
I’ve got a whole new era of golf to explore with these clubs now. I won’t find too many courses like this one that are naturally suited for featherie, but I’m looking forward to looking for and modifying what I do find.
Man they look tough to hit. It seemed to me that the shanks were caused by hitting to far onto the toe and or trying to hit to far onto the shaft end and releasing too soo? Just a guess. Thanks again Christian, I'm looking forward to watching more feathery golf as well as regular hickories.
The woods are getting easier now that I have a better idea of where the sweet spot is. I was getting better contact toward the end of this round and especially in the next featherie round, which I’ll be posting late June. There’s a lot of hosel on the lofter and little room for error on full shots. I think I’ll be better off using more controlled putting-stroke shots with that one.
Fun video. First time that I've ever seen anyone play with a feathery ball. Thanks.
Thanks for watching, Al! Glad you enjoyed it.
That looked like fun and a whole "new" world of golf!
I’m not sure I’ve had more fun playing golf than I do playing featherie. It’s just so much more satisfying when you strike the ball well.
I think this is my favorite video of yours ever. I find this so interesting. Keep up the amazing work!

Absolutely, Brad! You can see now why I was so excited after this round with your clubs - they played beautifully.

You and your son will have a blast, I’m sure. And t by experience will be even more satisfying with vintage clubs.
Such a different sound when striking the ball!
It really is! Feels a bit firmer than it sounds off the face.
Well now I need to play that course! Great round, fun watching the feathery, I think I would like to go as far back as gutty only lol
Gutty would be a blast there, too. That’s what I’ll try next if I get up there again.
This is SO COOL.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
With featheries, I think it's less about "hitting" the ball and more about "pushing" it to get the maximum roll and less airtime. Great video.

@@theatremusician Yeah, for sure. That’s why I’m reserving them for wide-open courses like this one with no water or forced carry’s.
@@TheHickoryHacker exactly. Me too.
@@TheHickoryHacker that was the perfect course to do the video.
