Paint a difficult flower - Watercolor roses from various perspectives

Painting roses is one of my least favorite thing to create! Why? Because you have to leave enough white space to create individual petals but not too much or else your rose will look juvenile. You try to get the shape just right, only to make it too big, too small, or too round. But in this tutorial I hope to show you my techniques that can help make the watercolor rose achieveable.

Great tutorial, not tried roses with a dagger brush before. Love the soft green you used in this one, is it a mix of colours? The muted tones of the leaves really contrasts beautifully with the roses

Thank you very much! I like to mix a little red in with my bright green to mute it down and then add lots of water to create the light value ☺️

What type of Rose is this modeled after? Are you going for a more Modern Rose look or another type of rose? This looks more like a Gallica Rose to me, especially with the type of center you painted. Anyway, thanks for sharing how you paint a rose!
